Great list, Palavini. I was surprised to find that I've done most of those. :D

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when;
-You accidentally refer to a friend by a character's name.
-You see Ithilean in the woods by your house, and pretend that the sounds of the vehicles on the highway are oliphants.
-You wholeheartedly believe that the spiders around your home are descended from Ungoliant (or whatever his name is).
-You battle in the woods using a sword (aka a stick) against a vicious monster (aka your dog).
-You hold conversations with your characters.
-You imagine rewriting Star Wars and knocking some sense into Anakin.
-You imagine your characters acting out a scene to certain songs.
-You are absolutely thrilled by being a part of a Fantasy writers site!

LOL! I have wanted to do that, though I hate writing screenplays and I haven't even watched the Prequel Trilogy! :)

Fellow Eruheran,

Another answer to the Hatter's Riddle, "How is a raven like a writing desk?" is by Sam Loyd:

Because the notes for which they are noted are not noted for being musical notes.

I've done that.

Actually, I have a friend who has so much become her character name that I call her that about 90% of the time and it sounds really weird to me when people call her by her real name. :D Her family and mine have gotten completely used to it now. :D

As to Anakin - I have imagined rewriting the prequel trilogy to be a little less politics, a little less mushy, and overall tighter... (having not seen it but heard many legends of bad dialogue, and some kind of plot problem I haven't been able to quite pin down but it sounded political) but if I messed with Anakin's fate, then there wouldn't be an original trilogy, which would not be good, because his plot ending was tragic-heroic... ::sniff::

Though I have theorized as to what would've happened if Obi-wan had saved Anakin instead of left him to die (and get picked up by the Emperor). Morally it wasn't right for Obi-wan to abandon Anakin like that - he should've killed him at once or else saved his life, not left him to die slowly - and in my theory, speaking of it as realism for a moment, it would have been better for all the characters had Obi-wan done the right thing there.

Sorry, random writer-craziness. :D

There's just one more worth mentioning. The author is unknown.

How is a Raven like a Writing Desk?

I think I agree with all of your statements except for the ones about villains, shoes and Harry Potter. :D They were very funny and made me think of some new ones:

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when...
- when you go to a fireworks show, you are disappointed that there was no dragon.
- you don't need to bring activities with you on car rides because you are perfectly content staring dreamily out the window and imagining dragons and griffons flying around.
- one of your goals is to be able to hit a moving target while galloping on a horse.
- you have burst into tears in the middle of hearing a song because it reminds you of an upcoming tragedy in your book.
- you are hoping that your book sales will make you a trillionaire so that you can buy an island and create a nation like one from your novel.

Fellow Evening L. Aspen,

Very good! Your last one especially is golden!

And I admit, after reading the brief synopsis on the Harry Potter series, they look positively gripping and imaginative. I'd probably love them to death. That's why I won't read them.

When we were younger on road trips eruheran and I would 'call' our islands when we went over bridges. Then we would say what kind of house we would build on it, and what kind of boat we would have, and if we would fight each other or live as neighbors. Maybe that was irrelevant, but what you said made me think of it. :)

When you see a the moon shining through the clouds in the most beautiful way possible you don't take a picture, you write about it (I just did that last night!)
You spend hours researching the making of salted meat and other travel delecasies
You measure distance in leagues
You measure depth in fathoms
You know the origin of "knots"
You spend more on medieval style gowns than on the rest of your wardrobe
Your life would be complete if you just had a wardrobe
When your angry at someone you imagine shooting them with a bow and arrow
You spend wayy to much time in the shower (because showers are for plotting. Duh)
You spend way too much time sitting by the lake (lakes are also for plotting)
You go to the garden store and ask for athelas, and when the ask what you're talking about you sigh and say "Kingsfoil! Can I get someone with a little less lore and a little more wisdom in here?"
You try strange food from other countries and wonder how you could work it into your story
You have these long, complex ways that your favorite books could be real (okay, Hobbits are good hiders, so are elves, dwarves live under mountains...)
You are never, ever bored
You use long words in everyday speech and people are constantly having to ask what you're talking about
This list seems in no way wierd

These are getting harder to think up, without repeating what other people have said... :)

You stare at a point in the distance with interest until someone asks what you're looking at, to which you reply "[A scene in your book]"

Your favorite thing to do is sit outside on a hot steamy day (by other's standards) and stare into space until the above happens, with an added, "How can you stand it out here???"

You think a corn field is the best place in the world to hide.

You do not want your room painted and decorated like a medieval castle, but like a medieval stable--straw roof with real beams across it, stone walls and rough wood floor.

You've been accused of glaring at your little brother, who you didn't even know was in front of you... because you were really glaring at your evil villain, or that character that won't cooperate.

When writing, you always listen to music the exact opposite of the scene you are writing.

You swordfight in a rain storm, just to see how hard it is so you can write that scene in your book just right.

You know the creepiest part of a tornandic storm to fight in is a little before it starts to rain, when the sky is green and/or yellow. And you know this because you have done it.

Medieval and fantasy clothing is not only what you want to wear all the time, it is what you wear all the time.

This is the best one I've heard yet, probably. :D

- You have arguments with your characters about what goes next in the story
- Listening to a specific song inspires you to write a specific scene (And when you have about fifteen hundred songs, that's a lot of scenes )
- You know the names of each song in both Narnia soundtracks, and you listen to different songs depending on what type of scene you're working on.

Just thought of a *good* thing about being a crazy fantasy writer - you can use your own language to make passwords that no one can guess... earning yourself brownie points at work when they test everyone's passwords and yours cannot be broken...

Mwahahaha! :D

instead of a normal funeral you would rather be dressed in elvish clothing and your body sent over a waterfall like Boromir in LotR. (and then people celebrate the fact you're in heaven, though that may just be personal preference :P)

You may be a crazy fantasy writer (or any type of writer!) when...

1.) You get excited about mechanical pencils, graphite, and erasers and ask for them as Christmas gifts.

2.) When binders are more necessary then spiral bound notebooks because you can keep adding more pages.

3.) When you go to Goodwill just to stock up on college ruled paper because it's just $0.97 a pack.

You are more excited about a 4-pack of good ball-point pens than a bag of candy.

You know that back to school sales are not for kids going back to school, but really for writers that ran out of notebooks and pens.

You know that the best way to break in a new pen or notebook is to write at least ten pages of a story with/in it. (an alternate way is to draw Celtic designs, but this tends to waste ink. )

The highlight of any shopping trip is the writing supply aisle.

-You find yourself narrating things that you do in 3rd person
-You have arguments with your characters, and no one has the slightest idea what you are doing
-You like your little brother's best friend coming over because you can talk about the reading and writing of fantasy books
-You nickname your siblings from fantasy books (mentally, of course)
-You read incessantly
-You have your own library card (much to the confusement of your mother, who says that you could just check out books on her card)
-You think that the craziness of this site is one of the best things that could possibly happen
-Your MCs interrupt your post-
Dani: We have one of the strangest authors
Aryn: I know. I mean, she doesn't even like PB&J!
Me: What are you doing! I need to put up a barrier...
Aryn and Dani: What?! No!!!
-You sit on a swing and make up stories in your head at lunch time almost every day

I do the first all the time, and I have my own card too. Only it's no use because the library is halfway around the world. For me that would be:

-You keep your library card even though you've moved halfway around the world and could get a new one when you get back, but that would mean waiting a couple of days before you could check out books, so while your brother is at the library issuing a library card, you're checking out books. :)

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when...

1.) When you've memorized your library card number. ;)

2.) You wish you could draw a perfect likeness of your characters, but find your drawing skills are lacking. :(

3.) When you want to make the meals that are in your book. :)

4.) You want to dress up as your own book character for Halloween and then nobody has any idea who you're trying to look like.

5.) You realize your own pets/farm animals are perfect examples on describing the animal in your story.

Same here! One time I dressed up as Arwen, and said I was from the book LOTR. No one knew who I was... :P I can't get my characters drawn right either...

• one of your countries in your fantasy world is the same shape as your horse's facial markings
• your favorite hairdos are the ones that look fantasy-ish (probably just for us girls)
• you think it would be cool to name your future kids after characters from your novels.
• you occassionally have awkward moments when meeting people because they look EXACTLY like how you pictured a character from your novel
• your friends know that funny things that they say will probably end up in your book
• also, your friends aren't surprised when they notice characters who seem suspiciously like them...
• one more: you include inside jokes in your novel for your friends
• your way of getting revenge on siblings who say something mean is to make your villain say that specific mean phrase before getting his head chopped off :D

Yeah, you've pretty much only seen on-the-spot characters. ^^;;

Oh ho, my siblings might want to watch out! Just kidding! ;) It is weird when you meet people that are like your charries. It is like deja vous! And inside jokes rule. :D

1. When you make up words and present them to people as real (as in you can find them in the dictionary type real).
2. When you’re giddy about joining a fantasy writer’s Forum
3. You here your parents calling up ‘go to bed’ and you reply ‘but daddy, I have to finish jotting down this thought! You wouldn’t want me to forget how I’m going to get Airianna out of this mess do you?’
4. You have lists of unpronounceable names scattered around on your desk.
5. You bring a tape recorder out with you to milk the goats so you can record all of your thoughts while your hands are otherwise engaged.
6. You’re on a family vacation and read every sign you come across to try to stimulate your mind to come up with new character and creature names for you r book.

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

Works in progress:

The Diegosian Mark, 115,600 words (Preparing for Publication)
The Diegosian Rider, 121,400 words (Finished)
The Diegosian Warrior, 15,000 (In Progress)

Oh yeah, and when your parents say they're going to ground you from all reading and writing! Not that that happens too often. ;)

Sweet! I am not the only one who comes up with unpronounceable names from road signs (which are a great inspiration, by the way :))

I have a spin on the first one... Did you know the word gullible isn't in the dictionary? t is, and if you looked it up, read the definition! :D Please understand I am not trying to call you gullible...

- when you serious consider naming your kids after your own fictional characters. For a while I wanted to name my kids Celestria, Demian, and Rayne. :D

*clearing throat* Gullible - Easily tricked because of being too trusting. Not alert to danger or deception. Marked by, or showing, unaffected simplicity and lack of guile or worldly experience. Naïve. Easily taken in or tricked.

And that is our Language Arts lesson for the day, children.

There seem to be an awful lot of siblings who are not related story wise in this forum. So if you're related by blood but not by story does that make you a once removed sibling? :?
