Hey everyone!

Just wanted to let you know that I will be gone for about a week (again). My piano competition is this weekend, and I need to focus on that for the next few days.

If you think of me, please say a prayer. :) I'm a little stressed because I'm not as prepared as I would like to be. I still have to finish memorizing a couple things, and the week of a competition is not the best time to do that...

So... see you soon!

Thanks for letting us know. :) We'll miss you!

I'll keep you in my prayer, PotK. ^^ I have friends who do piano contests, so I know how stressful it can be.

Oops... I totally forgot about this thread!

I just finished my city competition, and it went really well. I got first in sightplaying, second in solo, and second in hymn. I only played against eight or nine people in each event, but I'm still super excited about how I did! :D

State, which is almost impossible to win, is May 7... it would be so awesome if y'all would keep praying for me.

Hopefully, after State, I'll be around more often. :)

Oops... I forgot about this thread again. :P Thankfully Calen reminded me that I needed to come post an update. :D

Well, I did really well at State! I actually got an honorable mention (which is technically 2nd) in hymns, and I played really well in everything else. I think I played my solo the best I've ever played it. My partner and I did well in our duet, too... but I'm mostly just glad I'm done with that one. ;) Sight-playing was normal... I think they must be allergic to good pianos in that room. :P

I also got elected as junior parliamentarian... which basically means I get to help out a lot next year, and stand on stage during the award ceremony. Nothing too difficult. :D

*tosses glitter and trots around happily- *

Wait, you mean I'm late.... *dejectedly drags her glitter bags back out of the room with her.

*hugs Airi*

And I finished piano recital number 1 today! *is very excited to be done with her solo* Griff played too... he did so awesome. I think he awed all the little kids with his big, fast octaves. :D

It's next Saturday. I can't wait for it to get here... Mrs. Vickie's big, four-piano recitals are always so much fun. :D

I just finished my city competition, and it went really well. I got first in sightplaying, second in solo, and second in hymn. I only played against eight or nine people in each event, but I'm still super excited about how I did! :D

Awesome! Congratulations! I hope you do as well in state!

I actually already competed at State, but thanks anyway, Namor! :D I got 2nd in hymns, and played really well in everything else.

Anyway, my second piano recital is done. :D I played pretty well, I think. Somehow, I ended up sight-reading two extra pieces, one which I'd never even heard before! That was interesting... I hit a few octaves here, played a couple scales there, and everyone else covered up my mistakes! (In other words... I faked it!)

The pieces that were actually mine went really well. We played one of them, Fiddle Faddle, a million times faster than we've ever played it, and, at one point where there's a lot of rests, everyone started snapping to help us stay together. Our big Grieg duo went well too, and the Rachmoninoff duet was great... and now I don't ever have to play it again! (Well, until next year's recital, when we'll probably have to play with the people who play it then...)

Thanks again, everyone! :D

Woo hoo! Good job, PotK! :D

Was that your last recital of the year then? Do you get the summer off now?

Are you back on Holy Worlds now? Looking forward to seeing you around!

~Calen

P.S. I realize most of my post consisted of questions.

Should I say: "do well in country" or "do well in national" or did you win those already? :dieshappy:

 Thanks!

It's my last recital until Christmas... which means I get to pick out my Christmas piece soon! :D I'll also start picking out my music for State next year. And my teacher is having us do a ton a scale work... so no break. But I don't mind. :D

I should be back on HW! I just have to get all that school I'm behind on done, too. :P

 Hehe... I'm definitely not that good! State doesn't lead to Nationals, though... I'm actually not entirely sure how you get to Nationals. :)

 I'm in total awe of this thread and of your piano skills, Abby {and Griff, too, I'm sure ;) } I know from personal experience how challenging and stressful it is to prepare for a piano recital or competition... *practice after practice, numb hands, playing it so often you start playing it wrong, the looming feeling of dread, the vanishing ecstasy of playing pretty music... the whole enchilada!*
