Hello everyone I was rummaging through old computer files and found some of my earliest works in Apologetics. I wrote it during a dark and depressing time in my teen years, and it filled me with an amazing since of comfort and hope. Anyone who is familiar with Role playing games or online games is sure to get a kick out of this. (Please keep in mind I wrote this a long time ago, I have grown as a person, a Gamer, and most importantly a Gamer since then, but have not modified the work for fear it may loose some of its original charm and innocents). So please enjoy!

"Before you read the following TEN COMMANDMENTS I would like to state that disobeying any of the following rules does not make you a BAD PERSON they are merely a funny yet thought provoking assortment of things that many gamers do that as a Christian one must question. I would also like to say that even if you are not Christian you might still be able to gain something from these TEN COMMANDMENTS.

1. THOU SHALT RESPECT THY GM- “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s” Matthew 22:21 Your Game Master (Referee or Dungeon Master) has spent his or her time and probably money building this game or even world for you to play in. Show them the respect they are due even if you do not like them, their rules, or their story. If you just can’t stand the game don’t play. Find another GM. Not only is it rude but breaking this commandment can quite possibly and probably will ruin a game for more than just you and the GM.

2. THOU SHALT NOT PLAY A WARLOCK- “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12 this one might seem like a no brainer to some but many make the pseudo-valid argument that “It’s just a game”. This though true is not a good enough argument to work with inherently evil forces however fictional is immoral such forces often disguise themselves in fictional forms seeping through the cracks of the mind. Corrupting your imagination in almost the same way a curse word corrupts your mouth. If you cannot be “original” without resorting to DEMONIC PROSTITUTION you probably aren’t mature enough to participate in Role-Play in the first place.

3. NOTICE I DID NOT SAY THOUT SHALT NOT PLAY A MAGE- Magic is often an important part of a fantasy campaign it is unavoidable and that is ok. Need I remind you of Narnia or Lord of the Rings remember there are not only positive supernatural forces as used by Clerics, Paladins, Rangers, and Druids (I Included Rangers and Druids because in a “Christian Campaign” any nature spell caster would draw their power from Gods creation thus indirectly from God) As well as those who are born with their powers like say Wizards who would be pretty much required to use their powers See The Parable of the Talents Matthew 25:14-30 AND Luke 19:12-28.

4. THOUT SHALT NOT PLAY AN ASSASSIN- Much like the warlock the assassin is morally reprehensible not because of a demonic nature but because of its truly innately evil mentality. In fact one could say the assassin is even more demonic then the Warlock because of how it relates to a more solid or tangible evil. Doing harm to others rather than oneself. There are so many other more original character choices for those who would like to take a rougish path. Look at characters like Robin Hood, Indiana Jones, and Hon Solo all of them are rouges characters they inhabited the grey not the black! Just because you have the skills doesn’t mean you’re that sort of person. After all you could be a gang member or a pickpocket who has decided to turn over a new leaf and is now trying to scrounge up an honest living as an adventurer. A rouge does not have to be a bad guy!

5. THOU SHALT NOT HAVE ANY OTHER gODS BEFOR ME- ( I did the little g on purpose) Though pagan religions are often a part of a fantasy campaign and many (Immature) players will refuse to even play a game that does not feature an extensive Pantheon. a good Christian player will always either ovoid the topic or choose a god of similar temperament to our one true God A good choice should you find yourself in the forgotten realms is Illmater the suffering god. While a good Christian GM will know that a good game does not need an extensive pantheon creating a Christian proxy religion in game or avoiding the subject completely. Thou a creative GM may take a hint from Hinduism and create a polytheistic religion in which each god is only just an aspect of the one true GOD. So everybody wins!

6. THOU SHALT NOT PLAY GRAND THEFT AUTO- We all know that immorality is bad in real life. Well guess what its bad in games TOO! You can make whatever argument you want about going out and killing Kobald’s for their stuff but the fact remains the same Murder, Theft, and Rape ARE BAD. If you or your GM are not intelligent enough to think of a morally acceptable reason to engage the enemy then your probably shouldn’t be playing a role-playing game. Fighting in a war for your countries defense, independence, or to overthrow an unjust ruler are good ideas. Searching for a lost artifact that could possibly save or destroy the world if it came into the right or wrong hands while having to fight for your lives is also a good one. Self-Defense always works so too does fighting in the defense of another. There are also many other morally acceptable scenarios you need only use your imagination. Disobeying this commandment can scare off potential players often the more experienced or useful ones too as well as ruin the game for everyone.

7. THOU SHALT HONOR THY GOD IN EVERYTHING YOU DO- Any Christian knows to charity is a good thing but many do not apply that to the games they play. Playing a charitable character can make you feel just about as good as being charitable in real life. It is also true that you are more likely to get reliable information out of the helpless street urchin by bribing him then beating it out of him. Following this commandment can not only make NPC’s in the game world respond to you more kindly but can foster trust and respect between players. After all Jim the Paladin might be a lot more likely to heal you if you give him that +5 Holy Longsword then if you sold it to the blackguard in the corner.

8. THOU SHALT RESPECT THY PARTY- You may already know this but there are other people playing with you these people have beliefs and feelings of their own and the worst thing you can do is disrespect them especially if you have a difference of opinion. I have been talked down to at many games especially at one of which I STARTED AND WAS GM OF NO LESS simply because I was Christian so I know how it feels. Always be kind and respectful to others even if they want to play something that does not fit into or even exist in that campaign. Remember you may be the only Bible someone ever gets to read.

9. THOU SHALT NOT INFRINGE UPON ANOTHERs FREE WILL - Never tell someone what to play (though remember that the GM always withholds the right to say what you cannot play) or how to play. Always allow a player to make a mistake after all what makes our God so wonderful is that he allows us to do just that. This rule goes double for GM’s who often ignore it. Let players do what they will but make sure they understand one thing they are playing in a lawful society WITH MAGIC any crime they commit CAN AND WILL BE FOUND OUT and that there characters CAN AND WILL BE PUNISHED FOR THEIR CRIMES. Thou you will find that many players are just as bad forcing other players into unenjoyably roles or bad decisions never let this happen at your game. REMEMBER NO ONE LIKES A BULLY and a bully can ruin a game for everyone.

10. THOU SHALT REMOVE YOURSELF FROM A WICKED GAME- you may be the only Bible someone ever reads so behave in a manner respectful of what it means to be Christian. If you find yourself in a game filled with things you do not like weather they are moral or simply preferential in nature, leave! It’s as simple as that you don’t want to waste your time there and odds are they don’t want you there! Find a new group or start your own odds are there is a game out there for you!

You may Notice some of the before mentioned material deals not just with Christian behavior but with Role Playing games in general. I hope you found it both educating and enjoyable."

P.S. If anyone is interested in starting up a paper role playing game with fellow holy worlder's (It would be run over voice chat) I'd really love to do that!

AMEN!

Would that we all observed such guidelines (i.e. commandments) in all we do.

Colossians 3:23-24
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Furthermore, I've tidied the post up a bit.
