Today is a special day for KingJon: his birthday. Let's gather the glitter, cake, ice cream, penguins, punch, and whatever else is necessary for a birthday bash!

*carries in a multi-tiered cake and places it on the table*

Happy Birthday, KingJon!

*Walks through the door in full uniform, hoping it is the right kingdom's uniform. Is also holding a bunch of nerf swords and shields.* Happy Birthday! I thought we might have fun with these. *Places the foam weapons on the table next to the cake. Scrapes finger lightly across the frosting and has a taste.* Mm! This is good!

Oh. My. :)

Thank you, Lady Katharina, for organizing (or at least starting :)) this virtual celebration.

Lady Katharina Mimetes wrote:

(... this being Holy Worlds, of course ... :))

cake, ice cream

In the small family celebration today, these were Patricia Wrede's "Quick After-Battle Triple Chocolate Cake" (we got it from her collection Book of Enchantments, which recounts the anecdote of her editor calling her after reading the story "Utensil Strength" to demand the recipe; that link goes to the first plae I could find online that gave the recipe in all its glory) and Neapolitan ice cream.

Lady Katharina Mimetes wrote:
penguins

(What is it with penguins around here of late? Though I do favor an operating system whose mascot or symbol is a penguin .. :))

Lady Katharina Mimetes wrote:
punch

This being a virtual party ...

/kingjon waves a hand over his glass to make all the carbonation vanish at once

Lady Katharina Mimetes wrote:

All that's truly necessary is friends and fellowship. Which is sorely lacking in person of late, since my circle of friends dispersed after our graduation, but possible with modern technology.

Andorin wrote:

There's only one major enemy in the world about which I write, so you wouldn't have to worry about being shot on sight :) And militias are often permitted to design their own uniforms, so a military parade can be a riot of color.

Thank you all for your wishes on this my birthday. Unlike Bilbo's memorable party, I'm not going to disappear ... in fact, you might have wondered whether I had disappeared. While I've done my best to keep up reading Holy Worlds (by following the links in the alert emails rom my subscribed forums and threads as soon as I get them), I've let myself get months behind in replying to threads. But I hope to get caught up (or at least closer to "caught up") in the next few weeks. I don't intend for the "simplification" I mention in my birthday blog post to entail silence on Holy Worlds; on the contrary, it may even mean more from me in the short run, as I work through my backlog of threads I meant to reply to and my list of worldbuilding posts on my blog I meant to rework into HW posts. (Possibly starting with last year's description of the "the King's Birthday" holiday)

Again, thank you all for your warm wishes, and for coming to this "unexpected party," and ... this is ... not the end, but ...

/kingjon tries unsuccessfully to vanish back into obscurity :)

All I did was start it. That cake sounds good! :D

Penguins were originally Elizabeth Kirkwood's creation, I believe. They usually bring the punch. :)
