We have three grades:

1
Show me how, or I shall find out for myself.

2
Can I help?

3
I am all yours, Lord.

@Roager I play softball in a local league. I started in my freshman year and every time I tell my team I'm homeschooled, their eyes go wide and they start asking all the classic questions..."Do you sleep in, like, every day?" "Do you get to do school in your pajamas?" It's kind of funny because some of them thought I didn't watch TV or anything, because I don't watch Jersey Shore. One of them asked me if I lived under a rock...

Yup. I got asked the exact same questions. One of the questions I got asked the most was what I had for lunch. I didn't listen to a lot of music back then so one of the games my teammates would play would be try to name a song or band that I heard of. :dieshappy:

Sure, there was a lot of teasing and mocking, mostly because I was the first homeschooler to play sports at that school, but I made a mental decision to not let it bother me. I made a choice to counteract their taunts by being the hardest worker any of them had ever seen.

I completely agree! Usually people ask me what school I go to, and when I say I'm homeschooled, most of the time I get one out of two reponses. Either they say 'Lucky! I wish I was homeschooled!' Or 'What's 12x12?' Like they don't think I know basic math.
A few years ago, I was asked that exact question 'What's 12x12?' when a friend and I said we were homeschooled to a few girls our age who went to school. Anyway, my brain gaped out (I'm no good with super fast math questions) And we just blurted something out that sounded like it might be the answer to 12x12, but it wasn't correct. Their response: "Umm.....I think that's right." :dieshappy:

*wonders what the school kids did to Bethy and everyone*
I've gone to public school since I was four and it's not that terrifying. Some of the teachers I was most afraid of beforehand were my favorite teachers. I learned to put up with the annoying kids pretty quickly. I like going to school. I enjoy getting different opinions on things. I am, however, of the opinion that whoever wrote the language arts curriculum has no clue what they're talking about.

My sister and I are homeschooled and someone asked her what school she went to and she said, "I home school." Then they asked, "What's 12X12?"
She answered, "144."
They replied, "Yep, you're homeschooled."

Some people at my church think that I'm un-socialized, although I can be very talkative. I just try not to interrupt people like I'm taught not to. Kids in public schools interrupt people...

I've got that too. :P I wish they'd ask something more helpful (like how do you like best to learn?).

Of course, it would be kind of fun to memorize a single super impressive math fact (like the first 20 digits of pi or something), and then forestall them by doing something like, "Wait! Before you ask me what 12X12 is, let me recite the first 20 digits of pi." It might work...

Wait, normal people honestly don't know what's 12x12? When we moved to IA, I recall thinking it odd the realtor had to write it on paper (I don't remember why she was multiplying 12x12, but I do recall she wrote it down  ) but I didn't think that was normal.

I'm homeschooled and glad I am! Of course, there's a lot of advantages to public school, but I am very thankful my parents chose to homeschool me!
Its interesting to me how many people say, when I tell them I'm homeschooled, "Oh! I wish I was homeschooled!" I find that interesting...

I love it, Emeth! Our Aunt and Uncle didn't like Mother and Dad homeschooling us, and they often used to ask us to go through our times tables, to see if we'd slip up. That would have been perfect!

*Nods* People used to say that to me all the time too, Phylis.

Yep, I've seen that. You should see the one by Broken Lens Production (made by a HolyWorlder!).

I was homeschooled all my life. Graduated in 2007 (though I know you can't really graduate from homeschooling, as it is a lifestyle). But since I love homeschooling so much, I'm now working with an organization that's making homeschooling known nation-wide (since it's not yet so common where I live--but it's growing!). :dieshappy:

I'm not alone! I figured that some of the folks around here were homeschooled. I guess we can kinda pick each other out.

Anyway, I was homeschooled, still am, sorta, thinking about college, wishing I could do that while continuing my rabid writing schedule, etc. My schooling currently consists of writing books and keeping my younger siblings out of trouble (with an occasional minute or two to help someone with math :D :P ).

Taisia Tinuviel wrote:

I haven't. Have YOU seen Tim Hawkins' homeschool video--actually there are two, one of them being a song. I nearly split my sides laughing.

BTW, I usually don't get the math problem, but maybe that's because I live in Colorado, which is a homeschooling hotbed.

And another thing. The only time I was inside a school bus was when our friends from church (big family) bought one and we checked it out.

One thing that strikes me is that people usually ask how I like being homeschooled. The natural response is "Sure I like it." ... because I don't know anything else.

Tim Hawkins is beyond hilarious (in my humble opinion). His funniest videos leave me gasping for air.

I don't recall the names of the homeschooling videos, but if you go into youtube and type Tim Hawkins + homeschooling, you'll find them. I don't think he has many on that subject.

I am a homeschool grad. I graduated on July 4, 2009. Guess what? The theme was Red, White, and Blue ;). I need to look up those Tim Hawkins videos!

I was homeschooled! My parents homeschooled me from birth through high school (an amazing accomplishment on their parts). Now I am starting my third year of college, and I have to say that I am so very glad my parents homeschooled me. They are currently homeschooling my sister (a senior), and my brother (fifth grade). Homeschooling is amazing, and I commend every homeschooling parent; theirs is not the easy path.

I love his music ripoffs the best. As a very musical family, and as my parents know a lot of old 70's/80's music, they get a kick out of them. :D

We should do a poll or something to see how many of us are homeschooled, homeschooled + public schooled, and public schooled... *trots off to do*

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

Works in progress:

The Diegosian Mark, 115,600 words (Preparing for Publication)
The Diegosian Rider, 121,400 words (Finished)
The Diegosian Warrior, 15,000 (In Progress)
