It is an essence of symbolism. They are both wings (connected to Isaiah 42:28-31) and flames (connected to the tongues of fire, thus, the holiness which makes us Holy Worlds), and there are three of them because of the trinity, yes. The three tongues on each flame refers to the fact that we each have Christ in us, and the three wings refers to the fact that we have Christ in us as a whole, as a body. It is in a ring with the wings linked together to symbolize unity. Each wing is slightly different from the others, also, which of course represents our individual uniqueness.
It is also has an essence of an image I have for HW itself. The wings are a never ending loop: wind blowing crowning waves in a never ending spiral, leaping up to the stars like flaming wings reaching out, and turning upon itself in a smooth wheel reaching around to encompass HW.
Think of a water wheel with the water flowing tamely over and under it, filling the troughs and splashing quietly to the ground and running away down the hill. Now imagine, over the heathery slope behind it a soft and sapient wind blowing up, creeping over the hill. It sees the water and dashes upon it, driving the rivulet into a flood that crashes into the waterwheel and sends it into a violent and exultant clamor as the water rages over it in a never ending cataract -- the water streaming over it so fast that it is curled back underneath it again to pass twice, thrice over the wheel, the waves crashing against themselves in a powerful cacophany of motion. A silvery blue light gleams along the wind, igniting the waves, imbuing them with an electric energy that glows like the sun and the moon. The waves leap up in little flames of vibrant fire, bending backwards and driving forwards, leaping in all directions. The water wheel catches on fire and burns away, the vortex of water remaining, turning ever upon itself in the air, lifting itself over the hill, gleaming with the light of the moon as it bends its waves, beating the air with a living pulse and power of a thousand wings.
Beautiful, powerful, unstoppable, unexpected, and epic to the core. That's HW.
