Hi!
So my name is Rachel and my username, AnnewithanE, is from one of my favorite books series: Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery. I’m headed into my sophomore year of highschool this year, and I’m homeschooled.
I have to admit I’m kinda nervous as I’ve never been part of a writing community (or any online community, really), but I thought I’d give it a shot :).
If there are any original or long-time members on here, they may remember my sister, PrincessoftheKing. She’s actually the one who recommended I get an account, although she doesn’t go on here much anymore. My brother used to have an account too, although I don’t remember his username, and he agreed with her, so here I am!
Anyway, I LOVE writing, although I confess I haven’t had much time lately, with highschool and sports and everything. I’ve completed two spy books, but I’m trying to rewrite them since my writing skills have greatly improved since then. My main writing focus right now is my fantasy book, called When Reality Finds You. I’ve been working on it for about 3 years, but I’m probably just over halfway done at this point. I think it is going to be my best book so far when I finish it, but I haven’t gotten many opinions outside of my family, so I’m not really sure.
I LOVE writing poetry, as it’s the easiest way for me to express myself, my emotions, and things I’m going through. And, as a bonus, poems are a lot easier to find time to write than a novel, as they only take about 10 minutes each for me.
I consider myself a part of many fandoms, including (but definitely not limited to, lol) Divergent, Hunger Games, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Anne of Green Gables, The Inheritance Cycle, Narnia, Lord of the Rings, the Dark Knight movies, and, probably my favorite, Marvel. Feel free to talk to me about any of them! :)
I am a HUGE nerd. Like, I could probably spend hours talking to you about history, especially the Revolutionary War (I have a poem written about it haha).
Some of my favorite things to do are spend time with my youth group or my family, play volleyball, read, play guitar, sing (I was classically trained for 3 years, but now it’s just for fun), and draw. I actually have an art business, and if anyone has an Instagram, feel free to check it out (hhi_zentangles).
I know it’s pretty much a given on here, but I’m a Christian. Without the Lord, nothing I do has meaning and I am nothing. He has gotten me through some stuff that was pretty hard for me. Honestly, the past few years for me have just been a constant battle, and without the Lord I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Anyway, I’m rambling, which I tend to do anyway but it gets way worse when I’m nervous. I just wanted to introduce myself and I’ve done that now. I’m looking forward to everything there is to learn from and be encouraged by on this site, and to being surrounded by other Christian writers.

Welcome aboard.

Best thing about THIS PARTICULAR community, is that you have nothing to fear. They are really a very supportive and encouraging group (unless you actually ask for harsh criticism, then there are people who can privately nit-pick your work to death to get it ready for a publisher who will be far more picky). But for the majority that write for pleasure, you will find encouragement and feedback and a place to talk.

One thing I enjoy are the "Weekly Challenges" because they are open enough that you can do almost anything with it, but it gives you both a challenge and a deadline. The challenge ending today was to write something about a church bell without using the word "church" or "bell". A new challenge is usually posted every Monday.

Anyway, once again ... Greetings, AnnewithanE

Welcome to Holy Worlds! It's always nice to see somebody new joining us.

I certainly don't feel like I've been around here long enough to be a "long-time member" ... :)

(But as something of an "old hand" here, I'll strongly suggest that you take the time to browse through the Archives; when the forums changed ownership about---when was that thread posted? Ah!---two years ago, all inactive threads were moved there, and there's a lot of useful information and interesting ideas scattered through the ten years or so of history to be found there.)

Congratulations on completing a full-length work; after all these years, all I've managed to complete are a novelette and a poetry collection.

What kind of poetry do you write? Or, for that matter, what kind of poetry do you like to read? I write mostly blank verse myself, with the occasional sonnet or foray into shorter or longer line lengths or into free verse.

You'll fit right in here; the current leader of the forum has an alternate-history series set in that period (and I have one completely different alternate-history idea for that period as well, even though my interests in history tend to be much, much earlier).

Again, welcome to Holy Worlds! I hope you enjoy your stay. :)

Welcome, Rachel (or would you rather be called Anne?)!

I remember the username PrincessoftheKing. Good for them for encouraging you to join. I hope you can find it helpful. Be sure to ask if you have any questions about anything. If you like to make weekly goals, we have a weekly challenge some of us do. You can find out more here: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=9990.

atpollard: thank you for the welcome and the encouragement! And I will be sure to check out the weekly challenges :)

AuthorFaith: thank you! And Rachel is good, although I will answer to just about anything (joys of being the younger child, everyone calls you something other than your name 90% percent of the time  )

Thank you! They were my first real attempt at writing and they definitely aren’t the most well-written things, but I’m mainly just proud of myself for finishing them! Lol.

Ok I’m not the best as describing my books, but hopefully it won’t sound dumb haha. But anyway, it’s about this girl named Moira, who has grown up in a world called Sylia, where the king, Bricriu, abuses his power and doesn’t care for his people. Because of his lack of care, soldiers are harsh and even abusive. After their parents die in an epidemic, Moira and her brother, Kane are on their own. Moira’s parents had always sheltered her from the harsh reality of her world, but Kane refuses to after their death, deciding its time she knows the truth. She is horrified, and Kane convinces her to help him try to change things. On her journey many things happen, and she loses a lot of people. I’m already planning the sequel, which will deal with the aftermath of everything she went through and reveal some secrets she hadn’t planned on people knowing.
Hopefully that was a good description, but if it wasn’t or you have any questions feel free to ask! :)

I’m afraid I don’t know much about different kinds of poetry and what each kind is. But I like reading just about any poetry I’ve ever read, but I prefer poems I can relate to. As for what I write, I tend to write about pretty much anything, as long as I’m passionate about it or it interests me on some level. I have one of the Revolutionary War and one about writing, for instance. And then I have some that are simply about something I going through and dealing with. But just like with my books, I’ve only ever really gotten my family’s opinions, so I’m not really sure if my poetry is any good.
I’d love to read some of yours sometime!

Sweet! Good to know there are some other history nerds out here :). I’ve never been good at writing any historical fiction, but I love reading it (no matter the time period).

SOMEBODY SAID DIVERGENT AND HUNGER GAMES. *pounces* Imma adopt you! ^_^

But seriously, though, both of those books are pinnacles of the modern YA dystopian genre. People hit on them a lot... But I think that's just because they started a genre revolution and everyone's tired of it now. XD So, we're gonna be best friends!

Come in and stay awhile! It's totally normal to be nervous when joining a writer's group... I mean, writers are pretty weird. ;)

Yay! Someone who agrees with me! Lol. I LOVE this series both SO much but I don’t have a ton of friends into reading and everyone in my family either hasn’t read them or doesn’t like them. Even my sister, who’s opinion on trust on books 9 times out of 10 isn’t a huge fan (although she’s willing to admit Hunger Games has its good points and that she’s glad Katniss ended by up with Peeta, but that’s about it. :/

Okay I could talk about either of those me for an extremely long time, but I don’t want to bore anyone who comes across this thread haha. But for real, Hunger Games is tied with Anne of Green Gables for my favorite book (despite being like exact opposites of each other haha).

But thank you for the welcome and it’s always good to come across someone who still appreciates both Hunger Games and Divergent. :)

I THINK we have a Divergent and/or Hunger Games fan thread around here somewhere... If not, you can definitely create one here any time you like: viewforum.php?f=20 Just sayin'. :dieshappy:

Reading is a matter of taste, sadly, but I think it does take a certain kind of inclination to enjoy dystopian, beyond the people who were just in it for its brief popularity explosion. It can be depressing, but to really understand it and enjoy it, you have to approach it as a reflection of a current society's fears. That's why dystopian has changed over the years, and Fahrenheit 451 looks a lot different than Hunger Games, even though they are the same genre. People are afraid of different things, and view the future differently--hence, dystopian, which is a magnification and exaggeration of a feared future, looks different. If you approach the genre with that understanding, it can be VERY interesting and a VERY revealing social study. It's not just a genre about cute boys and rebellious teens... although I'm totally down with both of those things too.

Now look who's rambling. I forgot this wasn't college, sorry, guys.

Hi'a AnnewithanE,

Just popping in to join the lineup of hellos that have ensued. Welcome to Holy Worlds! As you can probably tell from my low post count, I'm also a recent member of this forum - wow, has it really been over two years now? I will, however, point out I'm only an Admin because I'm the technical brains around here and because I'm the co-owner of Penoaks Publishing, the parent company that now owns Holy Worlds. (Hehe, sort of makes me sound like some sort of stuffed business suit boss.) I'm also married to Lt. General Hansen, shhhh! Anyways, if you ever have any technical issues with the forum, I'm your goto person.

Anyways, I'm pretty much a fan of all those fandoms you listed, in addition to Anne of Green Gables - have you seen the new series on Netflix? I'm also a huge fan of anything Frozen, ask me anything?

I might not be a full-fledged writer as of yet but I'm in progress of writing a historical-fantasy novel with a social narrative that I hope to have released early next year.

Anyways, welcome again and hope to see you around. I'd also recommend joining our Discord chat if you're interested in live interactive writer discussions - I'm always there.

Awesome! And unfortunately, no, I haven’t had time to watch the Netflix show, as I’ve been crazy busy all summer with school (when you’re homeschooled school never ends), volleyball, and trying to find time to write and draw. :/ But I’m hoping to make time for it soon :). I’m so attached to the original movies (however inaccurate they may be), though, that I have to admit I have mixed feelings about anyone else portraying Anne and especially Gilbert haha.

Also, Frozen is amazing! Do you want to build a snowman? Jk, it never snows where I live. Like, ever lol.

I just had to pop in here and give my own sister a welcome. Y'all, she is really talented, and has way more determination than me. I've always said that if any of my family is destined to be published, it's her. I've got eight years on her, and she's got two more novels to her name!

Also, if you need a nickname for her, "Rae" is a pretty good one.

Side note: Wow, it's been a long time since I tapped that "reply" button... and all the emojis are giving me some serious nostalgia.

Haha well, I don’t know that I would say they’re quite finished.... They were, for about a year, and then I decided they had more stuff I could add to make them better, so I’m currently rewriting them. I have ideas for 2-3 other books in the same series as them, but I needed to make changes to the 2 written ones before I could start the new ones, so I am lol. :)

Hello and welcome, Anne!

I used to watch Anne of Green Gables all the time when I was younger :) Brings back fond memories.

I love Sherlock, Lord of the Rings and Marvel too. You have good taste in films ;)

Honestly. I'm just the same. I've had one of the roughest years this year, but can truly say that God is good :) I wouldn't be without Him.

It's good to have you with us!
