Hello, everyone!

I'm Keviana Elliot. My friends call me Kevi.

I write sci-fi. I've been longing for some other Christian science fiction authors to talk with and word sprint with... Are any of you currently writing or rewriting?

I've been stalking this site for months, thinking that it was dying. I'm so glad some of you are still posting! This is the only place (outside of Facebook) that I've been able to find a "Christian Sci-Fi" discussion. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I've been a member of the ACFW for a year, but I just let it lapse because they seemed more geared to other genres. I am a member of a crit group associated with the DFW Ready Writers and they've really helped me see the errors with my writing. But, because of their advice, I'm re-writing a few of my novels... Along with writing a new novel and keeping a blog. That means I'm overwhelmed, lol! Nah, seriously, what it means is I'm trusting G-d now more than ever.

Thank you for having me.

YOUR HAIR IS AMAZING. <3

*reins self in* Oh, hi! Nice to meet you. Here, have a welcome cupcake. :D

We are so glad you joined! We Christian sci-fi writers have to stick together. B-) Several of us, including myself, are working on sci-fi novels currently, although my main project is alternate history, which is sort of a rewrite of a book I had partially finished (the previous version really just being a super extended outline...).

What are you working on right now? :D

Welcome to Holy Worlds, Kevi!

Do you have any favorite books or authors that have inspired you in your writing?

I look forward to seeing you around the forums!

Yes ... and no.
I write constantly. Several thousand (close to 5000-6000) words per week in various locations on various subjects. Fortunately for both me and the world, I have no burning desire to write a novel, or even to publish anything that I write. I just write because it brings me pleasure. Almost a zen thing (without chanting that would cause people to stare.)

Fortunately for you, I am in the minority and I know for sure that others are working on a sequel to Red Rain and a rewrite of TDW 1426 ... but that is for them to talk about.

Steve Brown has a great quote about trusting G_d. He tells the story of a nervous speaker who was not as prepared as he wanted to be. He commented to his friend that he was just going to have to trust G_d. His friend began to snicker. "Listen, if G_d ever fails it will be with Billy Graham or the Pope, it will not be with a peon like you." :)

So relax, He can handle it and He has you covered.

Romans 8:32 [NKJV] He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

You are so cute! Lol! I told my Husband about your reaction.
He approved. :D The white hair/purple roots thing has been so fun and has brought me quite a bit of joy. I'm grateful everyone else seems to enjoy it, too.

First off, it's great to see you're rewriting-- I hope you can give me pointers. Maybe a lot of pointers. :book:

I have an underwater worlds novel that is one of the rewrites. It is the journey of the "specialist" who joins the crew to help them find one of their own.
Also, I'm rewriting/writing a novel about cat people that kidnap humans and keep them as pets. I know, it's a silly idea, but I haven't been able to get rid of it. It's actually finally transforming into something I really enjoy, reading-wise.
The new work is still in baby stage. About a spaceship that is connected to its captain, and that captain dies. The story has an unlikely replacement trying to navigate the drama occurring with the enemy and the crew.

If you have any suggestions for staying organized while tackling all this,
I'm all ears and a little desperate. Sometimes I feel like my brain is overflowing.

Again, thank you for the sweet welcome, Lt. General Hansen.

Thank you for the welcome, Sir Iarrthoir Criost. *bows* Your name is magnificent. I'm sure there's a great story behind it. (I like studying names)

I've read a lot of sci-fi in my time, but, unfortunately, there's very little influence right now. I suppose all the original Star Trek books I read as a kid gave me ideas on rotating character POVs. And the Perimeter One series showed me how Christianity could blatantly be placed in a science fiction world. Action from the Jedi Apprentice books may have given a bit of sway to my writing, too...

Beyond that, one of my crit group friends suggested I read the series by Jack Campbell. It will be the first sci-fi series I've read since college.
o.O

Do you have any suggestions?

I've been told my writing seems young adult.

And now, I need to depart for a lunch meeting. I shall return. Thank you in advance.

I (and others here) would love to help with rewriting! You can either start a generic thread about your book in the appropriate subforum (most of us do), or, if you have a specific issue, you can post it in one of the world-building forums (i.e., if you just want to ask a question about, say, sci-fi tech instead of your plot as a whole). You can also message me any time if you want. :D

Keeping organized? What's organized? o.O

I can learn from you, as well. My orders from the L-rd were to present the completed manuscripts to Him, and He would make the next steps plain. At this moment, I am not certain publishing is in my future. I do know the finished manuscripts are the goal.

That being the case, to find a person who writes for the joy of it is a great blessing. Thank you for doing what you do unashamedly.

This comment piques my interest... I would like to find out more about this when the time is proper.

This is great advice! Awesome. And thank you for the invitation to your knowledge. *bows* This is gonna be fun.

"Organized" is an affliction I suffer from a lack of. Perhaps you do, as well? Um, if I ever find the cure, I let you know. ;)

A belated welcome!
I'd like to add my compliments about your hair, too! I'd love to try some purple myself but I tend to go about a year between touch-ups and the growing-out part probably wouldn't look so great. ;)

All of your WIPs sound intriguing! Cat-people keeping human pets makes me laugh.

And someone else who read a lot of original Star Trek books as a kid! I can relate!

You should do it! It kinda depends on how dark your hair is and your color stylist's talents: you probably could grow it out really, really well! My natural color is dark brown, and right now the dark brown is accenting the faded purple, and the lengths and ends are white/ platinum blond. It actually looks good. Surprisingly. Either way, remember it is just hair and it grows back. ;)

Lol, thank you. I hope you get to read that one when it's at 2nd Draft. Then you can tell me what to add/ take out. :salute: Do you Beta? I saw that this forum has a Beta area. Perhaps when I'm ready, I should post there?

My people!!!! :dieshappy:
I actually collect the original Star Trek books of old. I may start a convo with you in the designated area.

Thank you for the welcome, Lady Sparks.

I do beta. :) And yes!! Let's convo about TOS books! I still have a small collection of favorites (I'd have more but my sister has a ton so I just borrow when I crave a reread.)

Hmm, my natural color is pretty dark, too, but the whites are beginning to creep their way in. Maybe I'll have a chat the next time I see a stylist... ^_^

Another belated welcome from me as well! So happy to have another story-crafter join us in the madness! ;)

Your stories sound awesome, and I would love to hear more about them, if you're up for that! And way to go on the progress you've made!! (Already at the re-writing stage- cool!) All of mine are in the brainstorm phase, and I'm sorry to admit, have been for a while. But, since I've started haunting Holy Worlds again, my imagination has been refueled, I guess you could say, and I've been inspired to work towards the goal of one day getting these stories on paper. I hope you find similar encouragement here in your writing endeavors! :)

I hope to see you around!!!! :D

Lady Sparks-- Star Trek convo = yes. And I have the same "wisdom" issue you mentioned. At age 34! D: Time to get creative and stay creative. :salute:

Alias Ember-- Thank you for the welcome! And yes, we can totally chat. Also, I look forward to cheering you to victory! I have a few methods of getting brainstorms on paper... if I can ever help, just let me know. :)

Lt. General Hansen-- I see what you did there. Lol. I'm sure we can work something out. ;)

I have wavy black hair and an increasing amount of white. :P

Welcome!

Since you asked about being organized, I'll chime in. I'm much more organized than I was two or three years ago and don't mind sharing how I got better. Keep in mind, I still have a long way to go.

Read "The Art and Craft of Writing Christian Fiction" (Jeff Gerke) Great for keeping us grounded and focused on the right things.

"The Writer's Journey" (Christopher Vogler). This will be the start of the organization plan. Lay out all your story ideas and then see how far you can thumbnail the main character through a heroic journey. Whomever gets the furthest, take that to God and ask "Is the what I'm to write, right now?" If yes, move on the next step. If not, go to the next story concept in line and repeat until you have an answer or you're out of ideas and God is saying there's something else you're supposed to write.

Once you have a "Yes", map out the MC's journey on 3x5 cards or notebook paper. One or the other, but not both. Not a computer screen, be tactile. Erase, mark over, and dream. You're finished when you have the story structure mapped from start to finish.

Post a "Tell me More" and teaser here for critique. This will help you gain better focus on what the real story is about. The tighter and clearer the focus the more energy your story will have. Tell Me More Example

Once you have the journey and the synopsis, read "Story" (Robert McKee). Arrange the chapters in the story to follow energy guidelines. Ensure the chapter ideas can fit into your genre recommended scene/chapter length. Romance might have three to five scenes per chapter while Action might have one.

Use a NaNo style schedule; bang it all out in a month. I have this unpublished "How to write a NaNo story" blog post; one of the biggest recommendations is that once you have your story make it a four month effort. One month to get to know the character, one to know the setting, and one to write like a mad(wo)man. Go from start to finish without editing, critiquing, or second-guessing. Then spend a month recuperating.

I prefer to work on one "thing" at a time. However, the nine or so books in my head are all set in the same "world" and many of the characters go from one book to another.

As I've developed that system I've written two books from start to finish. Working on re-writing the first and drafting the third.

Domici,

Wow! Thank you so much for the suggestions and pointers! Each one actually helps me right here, right now. I sincerely appreciate it.

I'm going to look up the books. I may have to wait to purchase them, since we are on a tight budget currently, but that's what Amazon's Wish Lists are for, right? I can't wait to read them. :D

I will utilize all the little bits of info you gave me here. Especially the "Tell Me More" area of this site. (So cool that y'all do that.)

Excelsior excellence.

 And, about the hair... When my Husband goes further into the "wisdom" scale, I'm hoping to convince him to try a dark, dark blue to complement his dark brown. I think life is too short to look in the mirror and sigh; we should all look in the mirror and quirk an eyebrow, grin, and say, "Well that's different. I like it." :salute: Sir!

Well, not that I take my own advice all the time, but you might enjoy the "Ought Five and One Two Three" thread. There's a "[TDW Peanut Gallery]" for questions about the books or stories.

Hello! Good to have you here with us! Especially since you and Aubrey seem to have a lot in common. I just hope the forum can handle two of you! ;)

Looks like there's lots of good information here that I will likely be using myself. Thanks for bringing it up!

I'm not currently working on a sci-fi project, but for the most part, my multiverse blends fantasy and sci-fi in different proportions based on the story, but I've definitely done quite a bit of it in the past. Used to identify as a Christian science fiction writer, actually.

Lol.

Aubrey-- this sounds like we are free to be free.
I mean, if "handled" means you are an internal forum phenomena that can barely be contained, then we should continue with the general sharing of our happy selves, as you have done previously before my arrival. :salute: #JoyTrekTwins

Varon-- Very pleased to meet you. I am intrigued at the idea of your stories being sci-fi AND fantasy. I hope one day I get to read them. :book:
