As of the writing of this post, I've read the first dozen volumes of this manga. Apparently the manga is based off of a light novel, and I think there's an anime--but I haven't seen/read either yet. I believe the manga is still being written, but I'm behind on reading it. This was one of the few series where I was reading the English editions as soon as they came out, but then I moved and got behind.

Funny thing about this series: It's a shojo, and it hits all the tropes of classic shojo. Klutzy but strangely talented heroine, cold and powerful but charmingly protective love interest that also happens to be her boss, you know the drill. I usually can't stand shojo, but I adore this series--because it's about BOOKS!

The story is set in a future Japan where there is a literal war between an organization that wants to censor the media, and a library force that uses guns and special ops team to protect their right to free speech. The idea of librarians armed with guns and camo is absolutely every bit as awesome as it sounds. The politics are fascinating, and there's enough war and bookish plot themes to keep it interesting. The romance part is actually done well enough that it's sweet. One of my favorite "fun" reads. :D

This sounds really interesting and shojo is my preferred genre. I just don't invest in manga often recently. I'll have to peruse the 1st one at the store and get an idea. Hmm, or see if I can order it via the library...

From what I see googling, there are 2 different manga adaptations. Library Wars: Love & War is licensed in the US and it has 15 volumes (all are released). The other adaptation was only one volume and doesn't look like it got licensed/translated. The anime was 12 episodes (don't think it's licensed outside Japan either) and there was an animated movie and two live-action movies.

It must be a good story to have so many adaptations.

It is licensed for streaming by Crunchyroll actually. (I haven't heard of a license for the live action movies but I haven't checked either)
