Andrew Peterson is a (amazing!) songwriter, who has started his own series of books. The first one is called On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness. The second book is called North! Or be Eaten, and the third (still being written as of 8/25/2010) is called The Monster in the Hollows. The Saga traces the adventures of three children, Janner, Leeli, and Kalmar (Tink) Igiby, who are thrown into a series of adventures. The first book seemed a little slow at first, but it got quicker as it continued. His website is http://wingfeathersaga.com/. His books are full of laughs, light and truth, however cheesy that sounds ;).

So, has anyone else read these books? If so (and if not), beware the toothy cows. They are scary. ;)

I have indeed read these books and found them quite enjoyable! It's fun to read fantasy with an interwoven thread of humor sometimes. :)

And I thought that the second book was even better than the first, which bodes well for the rest of the series (five books in total, I believe).

I also enjoyed the second book more. My dad only let me read 10 chapters a day! It was quite suspenseful. :)

*coughs on dust way back in the bottom of the forgotten secret passage in the Watchtower* * resurrects ancient topic * This thing is... outdated, so I shall update it :P

To start off, the saga will be concluded in Book 4, which I shall not name because it has a bit of a spoiler in the title until you read the first three.

Speaking of which, has anyone read book three, The Monster in the Hollows? To say I LOVED it in an understatement; I inhaled the thing. :dieshappy: I was gasping for breath with the wonder of it... It's gorgeous. Feel free to discuss if you have (in spoilers, of course ;)) or if you haven't... These are awesome, beautiful books, so I'm willing to do what it takes to get you to read them. ;)

Ah, lucky, lucky person! I've not read Monster in the Hollows yet but I can't wait to. I absolutely adore the Wingfeather series and Andrew Peterson's music is awesome too, especially Counting Stars. But that's a bit off topic so...There's already plans for the fourth book?! And it's the last one?! *faints.* *revives* I am now officially excited. :D

I've read the first two and I loved them.

They reminded me Douglass Adam's Hitchhiker's series, somewhat.

I've read one and three and need to get my hands on two! :D They're very good, the best childrens' fantasy I've read in a long time; and pretty decent adult fantasy too. Up there with Narnia on my list of good books. :D

Who are y'all's favorite characters? I love The Florid Sword and Peet, personally.

@ Varon: You must get The Monster in the Hollows. :D

@ Melody: You do! It has a pretty good summary in the beginning of three, but it's even better with North! Or Be Eaten. ;)

I love these books! :book:
They have a feeling of J R R Tolkien, with a child-sh fairy tale with hope that feels so magical. I like his style. I have not read the third book Monster in the Hollows yet but I'm going to soon.
I like Peet the Sock Man too, but I like Leeli as well.

* chuckles * Well said, Emilyn. I love your username by the way. It's beautiful.

I'm with you on AP's style. It's so... real, but it's also far beyond in that it looks to the next Chapter of The Story. And yes, Leeli is amazing. You'll really love her in the third book. :)

Andrew Peterson should have written the rough draft of the next book before letting his readers devour the third book. Although we felt like we were dying as we waited years for the third book to come out. lol

Currently my favorite song of his would have to be...*thinks* Little Boy Heart Alive, probably. But it changes every week because they're all so great and I'm going to stop talking about this, really I am.

Post subject:  Re: The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson

WARNING The following hidden text includes a major spoiler for those who have not read Monster in the Hollows. If you've not read it, don't read this; instead, go read the book and then come back! :D

Recently I was able to see Andrew Peterson in concert--which I highly enjoyed and afterwards I and a small group of friends stuck around for autographs--and ended up getting to talk one-on-one with him for inbetween fifteen to thirty minutes. We did get our autographs, which made me very happy indeed!

During this wonderful meeting, I learned something about the behind-the-scenes of MitH from AP while we spoke.

You all remember the whole thing about the cloven, right? And how cool that turns out to be in the end? Andrew Peterson told us that this character had shown up in the story--the cloven--and he was so bummed because for the life of him he couldn't figure out what this character was supposed to be doing in his story. (He didn't know!) So he was sitting there, all gloomy, and his wife asks what wrong and he tells her and he still can't figure it out and so is still gloomy.

He decided to keep writing the story, hoping the problem might smooth itself out, wondering what on earth the cloven was doing in his story. He still did not know until he wrote the scene where Janner and the cloven's gazes meet. Suddenly, he got it.

He said he bawled when he figured it out.
I don't blame him.
I bawled. Well, not when he told us about it--that would have been embarrasing--but when I read the book.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share because it makes me so very happy.

Also! I cannot wait for a certain book to come out that I can't say the name of because it's sort of a spolier itself! XD Looks like I'll be waiting for a while. However, audiobook versions of the first two books are now available if anyone likes those. They're read by an Englishman, too. XD

I think the next book is coming next year! Yay! I just wish the cloven would come back in the next book. Kalmar needs a good father figure.

In keeping with the above spoilered discussion...

What do you guys think of Rodric?

Author:  Bethany (Lady Alina) [ May 31st, 2012, 5:41 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson

That's the dude their mom marries/will marry, correct?

Author:  Caeli [ June 2nd, 2012, 3:41 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson

Well, that's what the plan was, but after having to leave the Hollows and the whole thing with Rodric...you know...accidentally shooting the, er, 'cloven' I think the marriage is, at least temporarily, off. But I liked him a good deal--aside from him wanting to marry Nia, that is. I felt so bad for him in that moment, poor guy.

Everyone needs a good father figure, but that doesnt mean everyone is fortunate enough to have one. Kalmar has survived this long without his father, he will have to go on with the rest of his family. Besides, he has Janner and Leeli and Nia and Artham to help him--especially Artham and Janner. After all, that's the entire reason for the Throne Warden's existance. I love Kalmar, by the way. I got mad at him for a while in the middle there, but think about it: he's a kid, a young kid, suddenly expected to act like a king, and now he has to fight his Fang side to boot. He'll make an awesome king, I'm sure. You can see how much he grows in MitH

*grins* Spoiler-talk is so much fun.

Rereading the third book, I noticed that they had known each-other when they were younger, that he had had a crush on her or something. It makes more sense that they might marry. I guess I trust him a little better after noticing that. And rereading the part where Esben died, it felt so final, I feel like he won't come back in the next book(although I really wish he would).

I am so glad that it is coming out in less than a year! Mr. Peterson said it may be coming out early spring next year!
