Mother brought me a film home to watch today, Jack the Giant Slayer. She knows I like Fantasy films, and she decided we'd spend the night together watching it.

It's a story about a young farmer who goes to the market to sell their horse for much needed money. Instead he returns home with no horse, and just a small bag of beans which a monk gave him. Shortly after, Jack accidentally causes a giant beanstalk to grow, and as a result Princess Isabelle is carried away into the world of Giants. Jack, with the help of the King's commander and some of his men, follows her into the Giant World to try and save her from the man eating giants.

I wasn't sure what to expect really, but I ended up really enjoying it. It was relaxing, fun, clever, and I loved the plot. Something I would definitely recommend. :)

Anyone else seen it? What were your thoughts?

Yippie! I knew someone would make this thread.

I have seen it! *grins from ear to ear* I like the part when Jack thinks everyone is bowing down to him, and I also like how they made it the same with the giants. :dieshappy:

It was fun. Nothing special but definitely not bad.

Obi Wan Kenobi was pretty awesome in it. *cough* I mean Ewan McGregor.

Yes, indeed, he was. :D

I haven't seen it completely, but I think it's a nice film. I'm glad they didn't Gothic-ize it like what they have been doing recently to a lot of the old fairy tales.

Gothic? What movies are you talking about?

*Chuckles* Yes, that was an amusing part, Blayne!

You'll have to let us know what you think of it. :)

I think Ewan McGregor is an awesome actor. He had a crazy weird hairstyle though.

Snow White and the Huntsman comes to mind, although I really liked that one.

Well, even if they're not following the original stories exactly (I haven't seen that one or the Hansel and Gretel movie yet)...the original stories were closer to the "gothic" movies than Disney. :P I mean, the original Sleeping Beauty? Talk about a twisted story!

But I actually don't think gothic is quite the right word...just darker, maybe.

I really, really want to see a good live-action movie of the original Little Mermaid story. It is such a good story.

So would I. I read that story over thirty times when I was younger. When I discovered that the Disney A Little Mermaid (which I had never watched, but heard about and seen bits of) was supposedly based off it, I was rather shocked. It would be so good to see a real movie of that story....

I finally saw this movie recently, and I enjoyed it. It's a good old-fashioned fantasy adventure movie.
