Well, when I first saw the trailer for this, my sister and I both went  that is a film we will not go to see! We decided it looked a bit on the dark side. However, when Kathy came home today she said everyone at work was going on about how amazing it was. Then I saw that Brendan had posted something on the HW facebook page about how awesome it was. So we decided to go and see it.

It was really, really good. There was a couple of moments in it that made me uncomfortable, but all in all it was a really good film. I really liked Kristen Stewart, and Chris Hemsworth was really good. I loved his Scottish accent. :D

It was dark in places, but the whole film wasn't dark. I loved it. I really liked the actress who played Ravenna, she was just amazing.

I actually don't think there was any swearing in it at all, from what I remember! Which is amazing these days, I love a film where they cut all that out.

Oh and I loved the fairies. They were so different, and unlike any others that I've seen in films.

I thought it was really original in many ways; I really liked it.

Have you seen it? What did you think?

Aah I thought it was Brendan; they like to confuse us, don't they. ;)

Let us know what you think when you do! :D

I saw the trailer, and thought "That looks like a dark version, a more true-to-the-original-source version of a fairytale." So I immediately wanted to see it. I'm hoping I can see it before the DVD release.

I haven't seen it yet, but I probably will, just cause I LOVE the visuals in the commercial let alone the movie. (Shallow, I know. I don't care. ;) )

That said, I know that Kristen Stewart can't act to save her life, and that Chris Hemsworth is amazing. So...in my opinion, they might as well have just called it, "The Hunstman". :D

I thought Kristen was really good in it. :) I don't think I've seen her in anything before, though.

I haven't seen it and part of me still doesn't want to. There's just something in me that cringes with I see the innocent Snow White I came to know and love in battle gear. :P

But the original fairytale was darker than Disney's perversion.

*doesn't like dark movies* :P I saw this had Kirsten Stewart in it, and immediately turned off the trailer. I doubt I'll ever see it.

I've actually never been a Snow White fan; but I would like to see "Mirror Mirror". :D It sounds good, plus Julia Roberts would make a funny villain.

I can understand why people would see the trailer and not want to see it. :) The trailer does make it look pretty dark.

Yeah... the trailer turned me off. That said, I have not said no to this yet, and you all are piquing my curiosity. :D

I’m with you on Mirror Mirror, Matt.

I went to see it with my Dad the other night, and he said he liked it. :)

The couple of bits I didn't like were (Warning: I'll spoiler, only click if you want to, might upset some people!)

The Queen eats the heart out of a dead bird, I hate anything like that, so major ew moment there for me.

The Queen takes a bath in what looks like cream, it's done very tastefully you might say, but was completely not needed. There is also a point where she is sat at a desk naked, you only see a back view down to her waist and nothing inappropriate is seen, but again totally not needed, I have no idea why they put that part in.

*chuckling* I saw the commercial and had the opposite reaction. It looks like a fun thing to do when you're bored. Just not worth ten bucks. :)

In the original Snow White, the queen ate the heart of a pig, and eventually Snow White killed her by making her dance in molten iron shoes till she died. I don't think the movie ruined any innocence...

I saw this film a few days ago. It was...interesting. Aesthetically, it was great. The scenery and costumes were beautiful and medievally awesome. :D The story and characters, however, were flat. Like, I've been mulling it over for days and I still cannot come up with any major character change or moral in the story. :P To me, the movie was like a beautiful but meaningless picture. I probably wouldn't watch it again and I wouldn't really recommend it, unless for the visuals.

I saw it this afternoon, and it made my eyeballs hurt.

This was probably because of my impending cold. Just had to throw you guys for a loop there.

But, I agree with the "flat" observation. It was a very pretty movie - picturesque, even the dark places. Neither my mom or I, though, ever connected with the characters (with the possible exception of the Huntsman.) There wasn't a plot to spoil, really, nor was there any noticeable message or character arc.

Visual effects were cool. Soundtrack is amazing. That's about it. ;)

What is it rated? My family and I are looking for a movie to watch for New Years (it's a tradition; me and my brother watch a movie we haven't seen on the night of random holidays and eat cheese puffs), and I thought this might be likely.

Hmm, thanks. We were going to watch Thor, but there are way too many holds on it at the library. So Iron Man and then Snow White and the Huntsman are the second and third choices...

The visual effects were cool, but we didn't connect with the characters at all. Kristin Stewart was as good as could be expected, and the villain was creepily distant. All in all, kind of a strange movie with not much character development mainly made for the CGI and costumes.

Hemsworth was nice, though.

They're both good choices, Renna. :) We watched Snow White and the Huntsman altogether recently, and my Mother and Dad actually liked it. Which is rather unusual, as Mother doesn't tend to like Fantasy. :)

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

I was pretty disappointed. When I saw the trailer I got really excited (I like dark stuff, okay? :P), but then later when I went with some friends to watch it it wasn't what I was expecting. I knew Stewart's part would be terrible, but the whole thing was pretty equal there. I left thinking "Well, that was a waste of money".

Me and my brother got to watch this last night...

...and I absolutely loved it. *grins* My mom had warned me it was kind of dark, and I had actually said I didn't want to watch it then. But my brother convinced me to watch it, and I'm glad he did.

The dwarves and the Huntsman were probably my favorites, along with William. For some reason, I just couldn't connect with Snow White; the actress just seemed to have a hard time showing different emotions and making it seem genuine, it seemed to me. :P Maybe I just wasn't paying much attention, I don't know.

The few things that really irked me were some of the scenes with Ravenna (honestly, some of the scenes she was in made my skin crawl), and the fact that Gus the dwarf died. I mean, come on! He was my favorite dwarf from the start, what with how kind he was to Snow White (and his almost child-like wish to dance with her) and such. And then he died. :bawl: Why does this always happen to my favorite characters? :'(.

All in all, though, I liked the movie. As others said, I didn't see a whole lot of character developments, but I think the Huntsman made up for it. I liked the character background the writers gave him. He was definitely my favorite character; I have a soft spot for characters that act tough and uncaring in the beginning but then you slowly get to see their more emotional side. *grins* Like Dustfinger in Inkheart, for example.

The ending left me feeling cheated though; I don't know why. It was a fairly happy ending, which was nice, but... I just felt like it was missing something. I'm not even entirely sure what... it just did.

All in all, I liked it. :D There are several scenes in it not good for the faint-of-heart or the squeamish (most of which involve Ravenna... :P), and if you're looking for character development, look elsewhere. But if you like stunning visuals, pretty good dialogue (and a really awesome Huntsman... I'm sorry, I can't get over it, ), and fairy tales/fantasy similar to the Brothers Grimm movie, then I think you'd like this one.

(I apologize for the long rant. I didn't think my comment would turn into a mini-review. )

Probably because it was Kristen Stewart. She has trouble genuinely expressing emotions in acting.

I think I remember seeing stuff about that on Pinterest, actually... that may have been why I was subconsciously paying so much attention to how she portrayed emotions. It bugged me that she couldn't seem to portray them easily. :P

*Enjoys reading Renna's mini review!* :)

I didn't think Kristen was too bad in the role, but I understand what people mean when they say she's pretty emotionless. In the clips from various films I've seen her in, she comes across as very much the same in all of them, even though she is playing vastly different characters.

Thanks. :)

Oh, I didn't mind her in the role. :) She did a fairly good job. I think the emotion thing just bugged me a little bit; I didn't think it made her a horrible actress for the part though.

Way back when, she used to be really good at it, apparently, but then Twilight happened, basically, and she seems stuck there.

For the record, she was awesome in Zathura, but then again, she was playing a a self-centered, air-headed twit that flipped out all the time in overexcited screaming, so maybe she was just playing the part more true to her real self. ;) *coughcoughcough*

:O She was in Zathura? Is this the same Zathura with Josh Hutcherson in it? She played his older sister, then?
