The movie comic book fans have been waiting for since the first less-than-good superhero movies came out, and the one Disney/Marvel has been building up to for the past several years.

So I decided to make this thread to refrain from taking over the topic on Thor.

For those who aren't comic fans but still find that the movie looks interesting, the Avengers are Marvel's biggest super-team, and the members are said to be Earth's mightiest heroes. In the movie, the roster includes Captain America, Thor, Iron-Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and The Hulk.

So, based on the clips and trailers, what do you think the movie will be like? Are you planning to go see it? Once it's out and people have seen it, what did you think?

I saw the trailer, Varon; I thought it looked really silly. I don't think I'll watch it, unless other people do and tell me how amazing it is. :) I might try it if that happened.

I'll have to watch it again and remember why I thought it was silly. I just remember watching the trailer with my sister, and remarking how awful it looked. :P I'll come and post again when I've watched it again.

Are you looking forward to it, Varon?

Yeah, I am. I've even managed to make my friend who thinks Batman is the only cool superhero out there to look forward to the Avengers.

It's written and directed by Joss Whedon. 'nuff said.

Honestly, I couldn't have cared less about Avengers or superheroes until I found out that little piece of information. Then I spent months hunting down and watching all the superhero movies leading up to it, and a few that didn't, and ended up getting so fascinated that I wrote my own superhero short story serial.

I'm breathless with anticipation for Avengers. And I'm afraid I've already made up my mind to like it.

Neither did I...*hopes self will not get punished for saying this* I had never heard the name before.

But the Avengers...I so look forward to it! Thor was good, Captain America was decent...and I haven't seen the others. I dislike Ironman and Hulk, so I guess that's why. But I so can't wait to see it! (Speaking of which, isn't it supposed to come out soon?)

I'm going to be seeing it opening night for a friend's birthday party :) (normally, I never go to any movie on opening night... BUT I will probably make a grand exception when the Hobbit comes out ;))

I'm pretty excited to see it, not as much as my friend and some other people I know. But I like the characters so we'll see what I think of it in the end :) there aren't too many movies (that I've wanted to see and seen) that I don't like.

Someone still has to write the movies--making the characters, driving the plot, writing the scripts and all that stuff. And yes, I think Marvel is generally better.

I saw a trailer the other night too. *almost squeels and then decides to act mature* It looked interesting. ;)

I will probably see it for my birthday, if the Plugged-in-Online people liked it. They write reviews for movies by the way, and are Christians and they go into detail in paragraphs on each of the following things(if they are in the movie)
Positive Elements
Negative Elements
Spiritual Elements
Drug and Alcohol content
Abusive Language
Sexual content
Violence
and they write a Conclusion too, if you want to skip plot spoilers. Their reviews are very, very helpful. You can look it up if you want. :) http://www.pluggedin.com
So yeah, if the Plugged In Online people like the movie, I'll probably go see it.
It actually looked kind of cool. It's like a sequel to Thor, Captain America, and the others all at the same time. I wanted to see what happens with their characters. (I personally, when I was younger, wanted to see all the Disney princesses together in one movie to see how they would treat each-other)

I love Plugged In, they're great for checking out new (or old) movies to see.

I saw another trailer for the movie last night and it looks awesome. I've also heard that they have actually worked on the characters and story plot for the movie, so it's not just...you know, explosions and guys doing stunts. They've also said that they build on the backgrounds of all the characters--which made me nervous because I've only seen two of the other movies--and that the story is most heavily reliant on Captain America and Thor--which made me feel better since those are the two I've seen. :D

Who all is going to the midnight showing? *raises hand high* I know I AM! :dieshappy: :dieshappy: I know I'm jumping into this conversation, and I have no idea what y'all have talked about before... but I know I'm excited about the movie.

I've only seen Captain America out of all of the heroes that will be in the Avengers, but I really want to see Thor. My older brother says Iron Man wasn't worth watching, and Hulk has some things that I can't see yet. I must say, out of all the hero movies I've seen... which isn't many... I think Captain America and Batman Begins tie for first place. I'm thinking Avengers is going to be even better than Captain America, which is hard to believe because Captain America was so awesome!

Post subject:  Re: The Avengers

I saw it twice already. :D Midnight showing and then another one at 11:00 this morning. :D (First one with my older brother and dad, other one with my older sister)

It does have some language. The d word is used a few times, one b word, and I think that's about it... thought I can't say 100%

The Black Widow does wear a couple lower-necked shirts, and it is violent. Just pointing out things I saw. That's really all I can think of, except maybe that Thor and his brother are "gods," and that Thor's brother (the villain) says a couple things about human's needing to be under rule and that freedom is a lie...

But. It. Was. Incredible. It was so witty, the acting was amazing, it was hilarious, serious, edge-on-your-seat adventure, incredibleness. I really can't do it justice in words, so all I will say is WOW. Wow. Wow. Wow. WOW! :D Does that explain it? :D

The way the tied the characters' stories together... the character development... the storyline... everything. Wow.

Yeah. From what I got of it (I haven't seen Thor yet), they are just an alien race, at the very basics. The Asgardians. They're just so powerful and foreign, they're called gods by humans. You'll love Captain America's response to this. :D *closes mouth before she reveals any spoilers*

:bawl: Man! That's a little sad. 'Cause that's a great "surprise" line. And it's hilarious in context! Oh well... I understand why PluggedIn does it. And you go into the review knowing there'll be a couple spoilers. It's really cool hearing it come out of Captain America's own mouth, though. :D

Yeah, it is shame. I also know what happens to Coulson. But then, I knew what would happen to Boromir and Gandalf.

Probably, yeah. I noticed stuff like while reading some of the old X-Men comics as well. One of the characters (Phoenix/Dark Phoenix) turned into a super-powerful psionic character, and one of the other characters said "She was a cosmic force, second only to the Creator." They also mentioned how a human can't control that much power. She ended up killing herself to prevent Dark Phoenix from taking over again and devouring any more suns and killing everyone in the system.

In Thor, we learn that people refer to the Asguards as gods because of their powers, but they state that they are not gods at all, so that aspect of the movie never bothered me. They deny deity.

I SAW IT LAST NIGHT AND IT WAS SO AWESOME! :dieshappy:

Ooo, that's what the caps lock key does... ;)

So, basically I can just ditto everything Nemo said, except that I couldn't convince my sister to take me to the midnight showing. XD She said she wanted to get some sleep because she had classes. Anyhow. I found it to be a very well-written film. Although I was hoping for more character development, I fully understand why they didn't have very much. I mean, you get together four superheros who each have their own story line and have to somehow give them each at least a little arc in 2.5 hours... yeah. xD I also thought it was clever how they got Jane out of the way so that there's still that plot line left for Thor 2. They didn't just ignore her, but they kept her off screen in a way that made complete sense. *is being vague in an attempt not to give spoilers here*

Captain America's line in response to Thor and Loki being gods was awesome. They handled the mythological god topic well in both Thor and The Avengers.

My favorite scene was...when Thor shows up in a whole bunch of lightening and Loki is honestly afraid. Thor is just plain ol' epic whenever he's calling up a thunderstorm, and that Loki still recognizes his brother's power over him is an interesting little twist. Of course, that moment went awry because Ironman got jealous and the Captain had to step in... but still. Epic!

Apparently there were two after-credits scenes. I only saw one, because it was late and we wanted to get home, so we only sat through the first part of the credits... Did anyone see the second scene?

I saw both of them. The second was... All of the super heroes were still in costume, still beaten up, like directly after the fight, and they were in this little hole-in-the-wall joint eating shwarma. And they're just eating... and eating differently. Bruce is taking his fingers and kind of dropping his food into his mouth, Stark is just kind of chewing and shifting in his seat, Thor is taking big bites out of his huge sandwich (as is Natasha), I can't remember what Hawkeye was doing, and Captain America was just sitting there. He wasn't even eating. And you keep waiting for them to say something, but they just keep eating. In silence. And it's absolutely hilarious!

I also love that scene you mentioned above. I think my favorites were when Captain America got the flying monkey reference, and Thor was clueless. And I anticipated Captain America getting it, too. And then the whole Galaga thing. "That guy is playing Galaga. He thought we wouldn't notice, but we did." And then HE STARTS PLAYING IT AGAIN!

Really, though, there were soooo many good lines and scenes, it's really hard to pick a favorite!

"Oh, so that's what it does." "Let's punch it like Legolas." "Now listen to me!" *gets hit by Iron Man* "I'm listening!" "Is this a submarine?" "Oh, that's just what they want. Me in a pressurized, submerged, metal container." *walks over and sees that it actually flies* "Oh, this is way better." I JUST CAN'T CHOOSE!
