| Post subject: | Star Wars |
What do you think of the movies and the books of Star Wars, if you have seen or read them? I have read all of the books and have seen every movie but the third. Do you have a favorite character? Mmmm... my favorite is Han Solo and R2-D2.  Out of all of the movies or books, which is your favorite? (My favorite are always the last three: #4, #5, and #6.)

I have seen the movies, Rachel. I like the newest ones, rather than the old ones I get mixed up with the order of numbers though! I like the robotic characters best, I think.

I've seen all of the movies. The originals are very good. The new trilogy really bores me. (Except the third one.) I've never read any of the books I'm not a big starwars or sci-fi fan. |

I haven't read the books based on the movies, but I have read a lot of the books that tell about the Yuzzhan Vong invasion and other stories in the Star Wars universe. Overall, they were very enjoyable.

I have watched the Original Trilogy, aka The Second Three, aka The Old Ones. I have not seen the newer ones, and I have read a few books, which were written for a kid's reading level, I think. I loved Star Wars and fainted over Luke Skywalker.  When we were little, my sisters and I actually developed an unhealthy obsession with them, so our wise father cut down our exposure. But we are still fans. I agree with Daddy when he says Darth Vader is the coolest bad guy ever.

I've seen all 6 movies. Which books are you talking about, though? There are hundreds. I've read some of the comics as well (Legacy and Rouge Squadron are the best). |

Heheh. My brothers are SW fanatics, so I had to read about the universe so I could catch up with them. And then I got hooked. XP I've watched all the movies. I'd have to say the original trilogy is my favorite, but my favorite individual movie is Revenge of the Sith. The acting is pretty lousy, but the character arcs were really fascinating. As for books, I've read the Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn, several PG-13 rated books by Karen Traviss (not recommending those), and I've surfed the web. I want to read some of the New Jedi Order books by Kathy Tyers (she's one of my favorite authors). I wouldn't recommend the extended universe fictions, they can get a little . . . off-color. 'Nuff said. (also, in the extended universe, people are either Jedi, Sith, politicians, smugglers, or bounty hunters. You'd think there'd be more job opportunities XP) Anyway, you probably get the point. What I love about SW is that the universe is so diverse. You've got a bunch of different worlds ranging from lava-flooded to icebound, barren desert to lush forests, magnificent cities to fiercely beautiful wildernesses. That's what draws me to Star Wars. I love diverse geography. There's a lot of story potential in these. I think I'm learning how to write monster posts. Happy day.

I've watched all the movies except 3. I absolutely HATE 1 & 2! No offense to you guys that like them. I'd have to say my favorite is 5. It's the BEST. I read one book in a series that's name currently escapes me. I think it took place between 4 and 5 and was for kids. My all-time favorite character is Han Solo. He's awesome. I love his "shoot first ask questions later" personality. Plus he's the main comedy relief.Question: Who says "I have a bad feeling about this"? |

I've read many "in between" and "after" the movies series. For awhile the only books I was reading was SW. For over a month I went nuts ordering every Star Wars book our library would send me. |

Since my brother loves em, I've read a few of the books/encyclopedias, and watched all the movies. I happen to really like 1 & 2 for their effects and the beauty of the Star Wars universe, which the originals couldn't capture so well. 3 makes me really mad and sad for what could have been, so I hate watching it. The originals are cool, though I dislike Luke in looks and acting and I don't really like the stock characterizations of Leia and Han. Just my humble opinion, though! |

@Evenstar: My reaction would be about the same. I've seen the prequel trilogy way more than the earlier 3, if only because that was what was available. I like episode 1 @Kironi: You posted!

I heard somewhere that they have a team assigned to work on storylines, to decide what is canon and what's not. He's the final authority, of course. However, I'm convinced that it would be good for plot, morality, and general freshness to have a HWer on the story team. (I tried volunteering Inesdar. He didn't go for it). Well, I will be the opposing side, I suppose. I liked the first three (the newer ones) far better than the older ones, for a lot of reasons. I also found the characters were sounder, and I love Anakin's story. We see him as this iconic evil in the last three, but we learn that he was a victim, basically. Oh he still chose his path, but his story isn't simple. It's not black and white. Plus, I love back-story. I love seeing how things came to be. Obi and Anakin are great together, too. |

How could Anakin turn to the dark side? Fairly easily when the first part of your life was characterized by anger and hate from mistreatment. |

Also, the death of his mother pushed him over the edge. Compile that with his love for his wife and unborn child, and you have several reasons to do anything to save those he loves. He didn't want to lose someone again. And his pride told him he should be able to save them. His story was far more powerful and complicated than any other SW character. |

After she was saved by Anakin Solo, everything seemed fine until Anakin died. With the only thing that was keeping her sane gone, her mind erupted into a war between her human self and her Yuzzhan Vong personality that she had acquired, with the Yuzzhan Vong side of her winning. Having a hidden personality that wants to take over your body and kill all the good guys, goes a long way to making one's life complicated. XD |

*grins * Those are not part of the original Star Wars, Mark. I am sticking strictly to the movies. I never read the books written by people other than Lucas, for multiple reasons. So, I still maintain my original point. Although your characters may be very interesting. But I've never read about them.

I decided to never read the books that come after the movies. That way I'm free to imagine what happens to the characters. I still don't like 1,2, & 3. Is Anakin really like that? |

Not paranoid... Here, I'll describe it this way: Because Anakin has brutally lost his mother (her death wasn't just breathing her last in her sleep, after all) he became... well, gun shy, in a sense. When people endure tragedy, they don't ever want to feel that pain again. That's why many people who lose a child don't want another one. So he basically wants to protect himself from that. He loves Padme. And he's excited about the birth of their child. The thought of losing them is insanely painful. More so because he understands the loss. He has experienced it before. So the thought of going through that again is intensely painful. He's not paranoid. He knows full well what losing her would be like. But you can never prepare for it. |

He's just been "Anakin - The guy that went mad and turned into Darth Vader and made everyone suffer." @Sui: Both of the characters you mentioned had something to do with tor was one of the Solo children.

I haven't read many of the Vong invasion books, because my favorite period is between 3 and 4. I especially like the Last of the Jedi books with Ferus Olin, and then there's a new series about the Rebel Alliance which has the characters from Last of the Jedi, except after Episode 4. |

I watched episode one last night for the first time in a long while. I tried to analyze it as it went and see what was lacking. I'm still not totally sure why I dislike it so much but here are a few things. 1. Jar Jar ruins a lot of moments there a several very emotional scenes and suddenly he runs through doing something dumb and kind of kills the moment. 2. The script isn't very well done I'm not talking about the story but the lines themselves a lot of them are really awkward or cliche. 3. The kid playing Anakin cannot act. |
