Okay, here's my attempt... I don't know how well I explained any of my ratings, but at least the numbers are accurate (I think... I was a bit unsure on a couple categories). Hopefully I did this right.

The Skin Map by Stephen Lawhead

Prose: 0

Nothing stood out to me one way or another most of the time. The description was good, though not incredible, and the dialog seemed to fit into each time period and culture (though I can’t pretend to know exactly how the dialog would sound). However, there were also many uses of “he insisted, she exclaimed, etc.”.

Character: 1

The characters were likeable and had their own personalities. I could tell how Mina changed in the story, though a spot or two seemed a bit sudden, and became a character I actually wanted to read about. Kit was a good character, but had no definite character arc that I found. Though the characters were interesting, even minor ones, they weren’t amazing.

Theme: -1

I’m really unsure what the theme even is. The whole book was centered on the concept of ley lines, but if it was actually teaching anything then I don’t know what that might have been.

Plot: 1

I didn’t find much if any of the story to be useless fluff. You can see where the story is going, and in the end the scenes all fit into the story. I didn’t notice any outstanding instances of things just conveniently happening. Though it wasn’t a book I couldn’t put down, and had no outstanding plot twists, I still liked the story well enough to read large portions at once when I had the time.

Content: 2

There was no questionable content. Sickness wasn’t described in more detail than necessary, and though characters fought, the violence wasn't overly descriptive.

Setting: 2

I never found myself wondering where the people were in the story. The author describes things as the characters encounter new places, but doesn’t spend excessive amounts of time on it.

Total: 5

Thank you for this, Arias! :) I think you explained it very well.

Thanks :) I had trouble figuring out the rating system at first.
