Has anyone read this book? Out of all the works of fiction I have ever read, if I had to name one - just one! - favourite... this is it.

I have never since read a book that spun such a wide web of mystery to have every single end tied up right at the end. Like a chess game in itself, it totally tied my brain in knots only, like a magician, have them magically come apart at the finish. It's a remarkable feat of fiction!

However I'd love to hear your thoughts if you have read it. What did you like? What didn't you like? Discuss! :D

I have never read it, Bushy, what is it about?

I'll get a summary for you, Elanor:

Where there's a will, there's a way- and Sam Westing has left quite a will!

One fateful day, sixteen people gather for the reading of Samuel W. Westing's will. To their surprise, the will turns out to be a contest, challenging the heirs to find out who among them is Westing's murderer. Forging ahead, through blizzards, burglaries, and bombings, the game is on. Only two people hold all the clues. One of them is a Westing heir. The other is you!

Reading that reminds me I have to read it again. :D It is the awesomest book!

That sounds like my brother's opinion, Varon. :D I have no idea why he didn't enjoy it as much as I did...

But do read it, Elanor! Tell me what you think! :D

I will do, Bushy. I have so many books on my list though it might be a little while before I get to. :)

I've been meaning to start a thread on this...

I love this book! :D It was confusing, kept me hooked, and it pulled at me emotionally too.

It's been ages since I read this book. I actually listened to it on tape once, very cool ;) Ever since the quote; "purple waves" has never died

Yay!! More fans! :D

Same, Shawn. I got all teary at the end. My Mum actually read it aloud to me, and she animated it so well! I think of purple waves, and it makes me laugh the way she said it.

Maybe it was because the story never seemed to go anywhere until the very end.

I love this book; it really keeps you guessing! :D Along with the Pushcart War by Jean Merill it would definitely top my list of young fiction :D (Incidentally, Elanhil just read this book for the first time yesterday.)

I loved the fact it kept me guessing too! :D And yet it still tied up well at the end. I haven't read the Pushcart War, but it sounds like something I might like.

Let me know what you think of it, Elly! :D
