I love Dickens. His stories are amazing and he is probably the best character writer ever. Who else loves Dickens? |

I haven't read very much of his books. (Not a lot of time lately). But I watched Our Mutual Friend and thought it was amazing. I read A Tale of Two cities but I found it rather hard to get through. |

The BBC version of Our Mutual Friend is really good. (I assume that's the one you mean.) |

I like "A Christmas Carol", very traditional. Nice overall description and plot. |

They recently brought out a new film of Great Expectations. I never liked the previous films of this book, but this one was a vast improvement. |

*hand shoots up* I love the complexity of Dicken's plots. Its that awesome. A Tale of Two Cities is my favourite, and Martin Chuzzlewit a close second. And Sydney Carton is actually my favourite character of all time. |

I'm not a huge fan of the man himself, but his plots are always refreshing. Little Dorrit and Tale of Two Cities are definitely among his best. Bryce |

Hard Times was my first Charles Dickens novel to read all the way through without knowing what was going to happen, and I really enjoyed it. The first chapter is intriguing. I actually have not yet finished the Christmas Carol. I have started reading Bleak House. The BBC mini tv series for Little Dorrit is very good!! I highly recommend it. It is the one with Clare Fox or Foy or something and the person who played Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice plays one of the main characters in it. Has anyone else seen it? |

I enjoy some of Dickens' work. Bleak House, Oliver Twist, and A Christmas Carol are the only ones I have actually enjoyed and/or finished. The only other ones I have read or tried to read are Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities. I find Dickens hard to read at times. |

I've read Tale of Two Cities, Oliver Twist, and Christmas Carol. Of them I liked Tale of Two Cities the best... I enjoy the Victorian-style literature of long novels that take a lot of setup, but unfortunately, I don't read them as often as I might otherwise want to on account of the length and how long it can take to really get into the book... |

I would love to develop characters the way he does. My favorites are: David Copperfield, Oliver Twist, and A Tale of Two Cities. There are some I haven't read yet, and one that I'm currently reading: Bleak House. |

I've read a couple of Dickens' stories, Christmas Carol and two others about Christmas that I've forgotten the names of. Undoubtedly, his strength is his ability to breath life into characters, something I wish I could do better. (Need I say I'm envious?) |

I was a failure as an English major because I had not read a single Dickens novel until this year when I read Great Expectations and A Christmas Carol for my 19th Century British Novel class. I must say, I couldn't put either book down. Charles Dickens is one of the most prolific writers of our age, and the amount of writing he put out in his lifetime is truly astonishing. His characters, while not necessarily a picture of true life, are fascinating caricatures of the kind of people we all know, which is what makes his novels work, and what made them so popular in his day. Not many authors of his fame got to enjoy fame in their lifetimes. After I finished Great Expectations I experienced this ridiculous crisis and lamented to my roommate that I would never be a good writer or do anything noteworthy because I wasn't like Dickens. And then I realized I was comparing myself to Dickens and told myself to be quiet and get back to work. :p |

I didn't know that. Bleak House is my favorite Charles Dickens book. It bumped off David Copperfield and A Tale of Two Cities from top spot last month. |

The way Dickens wrote Bleak House is different than the other books of his because different chapters are written in the first person of a different character. I liked Bleak House a lot! But... Little Dorrit BBC mini series (2007 or 2008) is AMAZING! Mr. Darcy from the newer Pride and Prejudice plays in it and a few people from Doctor Who play in it too. The soundtrack has a lot more variety and pretty songs in it than Bleak House does. But Bleak House' plot is really cool too. |
