I have a book, and I can't remember who gave it to us, but it is called The Perilous Gard. Basically, it's fantasy, based on a poem called Tam Lin which is a medieval poem. In this story, Kate Sutton has been exiled by bloody Queen Mary to an old, secluded castle deep in a forest. When she arrives there, she immediately realizes that things are not normal. The master of the house hates being there, and the villagers are afraid of her. She hears scattered stories about the Fairy Folk, and meets a strange young man who lives alone in a hut which used to belong to a leper...
It was published by Scholastic in 1974, and it's by Elizabeth Marie Pope (the summary is my own). When I first picked this book up probably two or three years ago, it bored me, so I didn't finish it. Then, quite a while later, I decided to read it again, and was surprised that it was actually interesting. I thought it was really good, and the romance in it is not really the typical romance you read in most stories. It's slow, and isn't just a matter of 'love at first sight'. Kate is very well drawn, in my opinion, and I really like how the fairies are more like Tolkien's elves than little winged creatures. One warning, however: there are a few instances of the Lord's name being taken in vain. I always cross it out in a book, and replace it with something like 'goodness'. Anyways, I think ya'll would enjoy it, and it can be gotten off of Amazon.

Sounds very interesting! I'll have to look for it in our library once all this snow melts and I can actually go places.

We have snow all over the place, too. And it's still snowing :(

Yes! It's one of the ones I own and have read several times! It's brilliantly written, an unusual portrayal of the Irish fairies, and one of the cutest romances I have ever, ever read. Definitely read it if you get the chance. :D
