Has anyone seen it? What do you think of it? I've been wanting to see it since I saw the preview, so I was wondering what people thought of it. I thought it looked pretty clean, funny, and a unique twist on a fantasy story. If you have no idea what it is, go here.

1. Does anyone else besides Evening and myself think Flynn looks like Jason Whittaker?

2. What do you think of the movie? (Aka, elaborate on what you picked in the poll )

3. Were there any elements from the story that you thought were good to use in writing our stories? Were there any that you thought were bad?

I haven't seen it, but I'd just like to say that Rapunzel is in general an idiot for waiting until the prince came along and hand her the answer for her to realize that that mass of hair is useful for something other than brushing. This Rapunzel doesn't look hugely smart, but at least she's not the Bemoan My Fate girl we usually see, and she looks like the kind of girl I could end up liking and like she could kick some major butt. Therefore, I'll probably see it, even if only on DVD (I have no money) I like how she uses her hair to hit people in the preview. Butt-kicking yet feminine Rapunzel. I love it.

So to answer your last question, I think the fantasy world needs more butt-kicking women that don't have to lose their femininity to be awesome. Because it's so lame, isn't it, that a fantasy woman has to lose her femininity (like it's some horrible thing that must be overcome, and masculinity is what they should be striving for) in order to be awesome and respected. I have no problem with beastly women that couldn't care less about dresses. But this is nice to see.

Wow.............I didn't even think of it but the resemblence is there (to the older art of Jason anyhow. I don't know about newer art) That is kinda cool 'cuz Jason's always been one of my favorite characters.

I'd watch it before you make assessments Celearas. Rapunzel did know about her hair and the properties it contained. I loved the movie, but can't expound on it right now.

I want to go see it with my cousins so bad! Unfortunately, it hasn't shown up in our local movie theater. What's up with that?!?

Now that you mention it he does kind of look like Jason Whitaker. Althought I think he more so looks like one of my MC's. Kind of acts like him too.

While it is hard to find a completely clean movie in today’s Hollywood society, Tangled, like How to Train your Dragon, came close.

First off, this story didn’t go the way I thought it would, which was an absolute breath of fresh air. The characters were funny! Clean humored funny. Especially the two animal characters that do not talk.

Rupunzel’s story is twisted, and she has been locked away in a tower not by force, but because she has been lied to about what will happen if she leaves. The only person she has ever known, the woman she trusts and calls mother, has insured her prize will never leave by feeding lies into her mind.

When we meet Flynn, he is a rogue only interested in himself, by the end of the movie he makes the ultimate sacrifice of love.

The nemesis is pure evil, but hides behind the façade of motherhood, a word that should invoke nurturing love and protection, but is twisted into selfish desires. This woman is not really portrayed as a witch, which surprised me, but someone who is using magical properties for selfish gain (you’ll have to see the movie to understand what I mean). I have to say, she is the scariest villain of any recent movie I have ever seen! Part of what made her so evil was the fact that Rupunzel constantly runs to find protection and comfort in the bosom of a viper, because she has known nothing else.

The love story floored me! We don’t see many stories of self-sacrificing true love now a days, but this one held up under all of my scrutiny. Both Flynn and Repunzel are willing to sacrifice everything, even life itself, for one another. And they both go to do so. However, the plot pulls one final twist that I didn’t see coming, and in the end Flynn is the true hero of the day. His ultimate sacrifice is rewarded.

It’s a good movie guys, with good characters. I love the innocent beguile of Rupunzel. This is one that will be added to my family library (a place of honor not many of the recent animated films have found a spot in).

Now I really want to see it. Thank you for your thoughts, sister dear. I'm also desperate to know what happens to Flynn!

Now I would ruin the story if I told you that! I tried to be very benign in the info I gave you guys so that you could still be just as pleasantly surprised as I was.

You were. You gave enough to interest us, but you didn't spoil it. I know you won't tell me, and I want to be surprised, but I'm still dying to know what happens to him! I really don't want him to die! (I get really emotionally attached to certain characters. I was saying "No! He can't die!" about Caleb all throughout the third book in the 100 Cupboards trilogy... )

Knowing you as I do Lizzie, I know you will be taken on an emotional rollercoaster when you see the ending. First you will feel devastated and crushed. The tears will come, and just before you say this is the worst movie ever because of what they did, the sun will come out. Flowers will bloom, and you will fall hopelessly in love with the movie.

Now how much do you want to see it? *waggles eyebrows*

*dies of suspense* Please, please, visit the dollar theater soon! You're making it worse, as I know you knew it would. The words "frying pan" will never be the same in our household!

Okay, a couple more questions:
4. What did you think of Flynn's line "A little adventure, a little rebellion; that's good, healthy even." Is that a prevailing thing in the movie?

5. What did you think of the magic in the movie? It sounded a bit sketchy to me theologically, but I'm not sure how major of a part it plays.

That line is only used once, and it is a ploy he uses to trick Rapunzel. It never shows up again, and it isn't a prevailing theme. Repunzel is genuinely torn over her "rebellion". It wasn't an issue or a concern in the movie.

The magic is very unusual in this movie. While it is a central theme, it is also very minimal. The back-story is that a ray of sunshine falls to the ground, a flower grows that has magic healing properties, and then through a series of events Rupunzel's pregnant mother consumes it and Rupunzel is born with this blond hair that is strikingly similar to the glowing flower.

But other than the magic hair, which can only heal and grow, there is no other magic. Like I said, this movie shocked me on a lot of levels. Disney actually followed the old themes of good, wholesome characters the audience can fall in love with. That was the presiding force behind what made this movie.

Okay, that satisfies me on both accounts. Yay for Disney in this case! *dies of suspense all over again*

Yep. I can't wait till it comes out on DVD and I can really analyze it (yes, I know, I am a geek. I analyze movies as one of my hobbies. Now you all know why I write for ITB).

Airianna, I have never heard such an enthralling movie review. I saw the kids coloring books for this in the store last week and my first thought was, "Wow, another stupid disney fairytale movie."

The fact that your review has actually made me want to see it in spite of that being my first impression is amazing even to me.

Now I want to see it too. Because, like Jaynin, I would have wrote it off. Disney + fairy tale? We know how that usually goes. If it were Pixar, that would be a different story... I am biased towards Pixar and judge everything else off of the standard of Pixar stories. And that's a pretty high bar!

I analyze movies, but then again, I'm a screenwriter. It's part of my job...

Philli, I've heard it's pretty good compared to Pixar in the story and animation. I think 2 of the directors from Pixar made it, actually, but I could be wrong...

While the frying pan is an inanimate object, it plays a serious role in the movie and is hilarious!

I wouldn't be surprised if Pixar people were involved because Disney owns Pixar and Pixar only makes 1 movie a year. Therefore, the directors probably have time to do another film on the side.

I'm waiting for DVD too. I'd love to see it in theatres............but........if I'm going to see a movie in theatres, it's going to be VDT. (never been to the theatre before)

John is very good! And he's the leading thrust behind Pixar. I had heard he was doing some of the Disney stuff too.

Oh, utterly.

I just saw Tangled on Saturday, and I absolutely loved it! The frying pan was awesome!

The animation was beautiful, and the characters felt real and fun. The relationship between the two MCs is a very strong friendship, and that was great to watch. The animals were skillfully done and were absolutely adorable (and funny). And there were three scenes especially where I felt the emotions and beauty of the story. The storyline is good and original; we all know what's going to happen, but there are multiple unexpected twists and turns in the plot.

My only problem was the relationship between Rapunzel and Mother Gothel. While the audience knew that Gothel wasn't really her mother, Rapunzel thought she was and loved her (despite putdowns, emotional manipulations, etc). What I was uncomfortable with was the fact that the MC goes on and leaves the tower, disobeying her "mother" willfully. I feel like this somehow undermines parental authority.

That being said, I think the movie more than made up for this when Rapunzel was reunited with her real parents, who always believed that their daughter was going to return to them. That scene made me cry, it was so sweet.

Anyway, that is my personal (and long) opinion on the movie, I would totally recommend it. Even my brothers enjoyed seeing it, and it is definitely a disney movie I wouldn't mind owning.

Sorry guys, I had to post the upside, but I didn't want to ruin that part of the story for you . . . I think you already know what happens in the story, so reading the spoiler text shouldn't surprise you . . . I hope.

I sooooo want to see this!!! I wanted to before, just seeing the trailers and TV spots, but after what ya'll have been saying, I want to even more!

Grrr! I hate spoilers! There's just so, so... annoying, aggrivating, tempting, confusing, and downright hard not to click. I don't know about you, but every time I see I black line across the screen I want to click it. I guess that's why my dad calls me a clickaholic.

Really cute and sweet, strong characters, charming animation, uproariously funny. Unfortunately, there is a strong message of rebellion. Rapunzel thinks Dame Gothel is her mom, and doesn't figure out otherwise until the very, very end of the movie. So, in order for her to be running around with the prince, she's rebelling. There's an entire scene where they justify it. The prince calls it "natural" and "part of growing up." Dame Gothel sings a song about Mothers being right, but of course, since she's the bad guy, she has nothing but evil in mind, and the song's message is reversed.

I still enjoyed it a lot, and if you can ignore all that - or dismiss it since Dame Gothel isn't really her mom - it's great. To be warned, the ending may not make much sense to you unless you've read the original fairy tale.

I find it interesting that a couple of you ladies found a strong rebellion theme. I have to say, I did not.

Rapunzel is depicted at being conflicted over her rebellion. While she does not turn back, she is shown several times hating herself for being "a horrible person and a bad daughter".

Also, the scene where this rebellion is said to be justified is not actually being justified. Flynn makes the remarks he does in order to trick Rapunzel to go to the lodge so he can frighten her into giving him the____. You all who have seen the movie will know what I mean, but I do not want to spoil it for the rest of you.

Rapunzel is also shown as being a dutiful daughter. She does everything her mother asks through the beginning of the movie. I did not find rebellion to be a strong theme in this story.

Yes, the whole quest is a "rebellion", but Rapunzel shows proper distress over this, I thought. Something I was really impressed Disney depicted.

Well, I think you stretch the story in a few places. But you know what? I'm not gonna argue the point 'cause I don't wanna be guilty for ruining the movie for you. You enjoyed it completely; fantastic.

Maybe it just depends on how sensitive you are to such things. But like I said before, I still enjoyed Tangled.

Maybe. However, you wouldn't ruin the movie for me. I'm a tough critique. And my family and I have a high standard for the movies we choose to watch and put in our library. Tangled will actually take its place there, shockingly. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. However, I don't mind you girls think differently about it, I just found it interesting, since I'm big on not advertising rebellious children in our rebellion prevelant world.

I loved it! I was a little wary going into it, since some of you mentioned a strong theme of rebellion, but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. There was rebellion in it, but like Airi said, I thought the scene where Flynn "justified" was okay, because he had very selfish motives, and just wanted what Rapunzel had.

But the ending was amazing, and I loved that the movie had such a strong theme of redemption! Flynn is just amazing.

But I'll stop rambling so I don't ruin the movie for anyone.

I saw Tangled for the first time with my older sister in the theater. IT WAS AMAZING!!!!! Especially on the big screen. I LOVED the things they did with a frying pan!

A definite recommendation! Tangled is one of the best Disney fairytale movies that I've seen. With appropriate humor, magic and storyline, it's just about as good as you can get. And you learn some very important information--with frying pans, you can conquer a nation. I am dying for it to come out on DVD so I can watch it over and over again!

It deserves that smiley, in my opinion. I now know what I will say next time I climb up Stone Mountain.

First off, Flynn was awesome. Totally. I loved his character, especially the part where he cut her hair. Rapunzel's tears were an interesting tie-back to the original story of Rapunzel.

As far as message goes, it... was interesting. You could take rebellion and feminism from it, but it wasn't really prevalent.

All in all, I can't wait to watch this movie again. And again.

*restrains herself from commenting on the rebellion portion and feminism aspect, since she knows most everyone has already heard her rant *

This has been lengthily discussed on the christianfilmmakers.org and I'm getting tired of hearing about this movie I'll probably see it some time though, so I can just in with all my thoughts on it.
