EPISODE #3 SPOILERS, ACTUAL SPOILERS THIS TIME, FOR THOSE CONCERNED.

DawnBringer wrote:
Anyone else notice the origin of Graviton happened this episode?

Yeah...totally saw that one coming from a mile away. ;)

Also, I did like the 'human' element Whedon added, as you mentioned Varon...although, a part of me says that it's a bit early for sappy back-story. But, whatever, that's only my opinion. (Also, the prevailing 'human' element has been Coulson himself--and the Fitz and Simmons, of course! I love those two.

Lastly, I am very much concerned about the whole 'a bit rusty' thing. ACK! Is Coulson not really Coulson, as we've been fearing this whole time???

I think its Coulson but most likely in a different body, biological or cybernetic, its also possible he was only medically dead making it not a lie that he died, However that would not explain the loss of muscle memory.

Way-way-way-wait; it was Whedon? o.O I didn't realize he was directing it.

He's the head writer and executive producer.

Episode three. Whedon is a total screaming genius.

Yes, indeed. :D

I agree with Varon there. I liked seeing the human element in this episode--something to connect us to the characters--which seemed to be rather missing from the first two episodes. It's nice seeing that the agents are people with emotions, thoughts, maybe wounds from the past. Not so much as to make it sappy and sentimental to the point of silly, but enough for us to know that they're not robots.

One of my friends thinks that I and her little brother act like Fitz and Simmons. I was weirded out when I realized she was right...

Me too. Can we start putting the episode # before the spoiler tags, just so those of us who are behind in this show can know which ones to click?

For example,

Episode 1: Whatever spoilers here
Episode 2: Team goes to Peru. Nick Fury supposedly shows up
Episode 3: Whatever spoilers here

Side note: S.H.I.E.L.D. just got picked up for a 22-episode season. Not too shabby - I was expecting either a 20-episode or 24-episode season, but, whatever.

I don't know if you can really compare a 2+ hour movie to a 42 minute TV show pilot episode. It's not nearly as good as Firefly but after just three episodes it's gotten quite good and showing much promise. After watching Dollhouse, I'll have to see a whole season (and probably rewatch it since episodes a week apart really annoy me...), before I can really decide how good it is.

A lot of the weaknesses in Whedon's TV shows are due to limitations imposed by the people he's working for. Dollhouse got off to a rocky episode-by-episode start, but in season two it really pulled together and made an incredible continuous story. I'm hoping the same happens with this show. I know he can do it. Just depends on what he has to work with.

I am afraid that he's going to take on a little too much, and get spread too thin, and his writing will suffer for it. That would be sad.

I've been watching the series, and so far it is pretty good. The third episode wasn't as good as the first two, but it wasn't bad overall. I have to admit that my least favorite character is Skye. I really disliked her in the pilot, but during the last two episodes, her character has improved considerably.

oops...let me clarify: I would rather watch people with superhuman abilities take down bad guys, than watch a bunch of SHIELD agents using guns to take down a bunch of bad guys. I personally don't like guns/shooting in movies. Ithink it's boring and rather scary. I'd prefer throwing knives, swords, staffs, Miolnir, ^_^ etc.
So I suppose what I was trying to say is, I prefer the more fantasy-edge side of Avengers, what with sci-fi monsters, a mind-control staff, Asgardians, etc.

I see and understand what you mean, and to be honest, while I do enjoy seeing the sort of..."police procedural" side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I do like the fantasy-side. The "real" fantasy side of it, though, I don't really...enjoy as much. I mean, I liked Thor in The Avengers, but I never saw Thor (the movie), and I'm only...60-70% interested in The Dark World, partially because it's a part of the MCU.

I agree with you there. I'd rather watch a show about superhumans than about ordinary folk. I think the only reason that I'm even watching this show is because it's set in the Marvel Universe. :)

I watched the fourth episode last night, and personally, I didn't care for it. While the character development has improved, this episode still felt a little weak and I detested the gore at the beginning of the show.

That's kind of the point. :) At the beginning, when we don't know anything, it just looks like the work of a cold, heartless, and yes, detestable, killer. But later, once we realize the full extent of who this person is and why she is doing what she is doing, the train station gore shows how horrifying her position is. She's given up all hope -- she had no choice but to become like this. Then her position becomes truly pitiable; her controllers, beyond detestable.

Yes. She's forced to be doing this. She's not doing it because she wants to - but because she has to.

Episode 4: According to united states law everything she did could have been consider under duress. However the extent of what she did and how she did it could also come into play as far as a jury is concerned.

First episode I thought Fitz & Simmons were siblings until I learned they had different last names. They would be make an AWESOME brother-sister team. But since they're not...

I'm shipping Fitz-Simmons and nobody can stop me!!!!

(Love their contraction name, also.)

Also. Until I saw the first post in this thread I didn't know Ward's name. Seen first episode and last half of 2 & 3, then all of 4. Couldn't remember his name.

I'm hoping for a little more excitement, or something. 4 was exciting, and maybe I just caught 2-3 at the end so I missed all the action. But still...

#1: I wanna know about Coulson!!!!! :bawl: They give you the little blurb about him in Tahiti and his female assistant person says he should never find out where he really was and I'm like "TELL ME!!! I MUST KNOW!!" That's probably the one thing from the entire show so far I really want to learn.

Okay, I'm done.

LOL That's the first time I've heard anyone justify a super under US law. XD It's a fair point.

Episode 4:I liked skye a lot more in this episode, she's growing on me. However, I didn't appreciate Ward...he's not growing on me...he's too 'macho'. XD

Does anybody know what Coulson meant when he explained to Skye that he gave his ex-trainee (Amadour) a second chance because he had been given one? Is this one of the movie references or a foreshadowing? Oh, and the whole thing with Amadour when she asked what SHIELD had done to change Coulson. Guys, SHE CAN SEE A DIFFERENCE.

Understandable, but the gore was still very unnecessary. The blood wasn't what bothered me so much as the severed hands. That was gross. It's too bad that was the first episode my sister saw of the series, because now I don't think I can convince her to give it another shot. :)

Skye was definitely better in this episode. I like Ward, but I think I prefer Melinda May more. As for what Coulson meant about getting a second chance, that was a movie reference to the Avengers where he was supposedly killed in the Helicarrier battle.

Ah, okay. I thought it might be something else--more metaphorical than literal. XD

I must say I didn't appreciate the hand thing either, but...well, I've watched LOTR...I don't like gore and I really prefer to be without it, but sometimes it's needed to show a point. Still, I probably could have done without it in this instance. ;)

I disagree with you there. Perhaps they could have told instead of shown or showed the arm without showing the nearby hand. However, for someone who needs to acquire the contents of a briefcase handcuffed to a person's hand and then make a quick get away, there is no better way to do it (that I can think of anyway). Since at this point she no longer had any personal will, it's the move that makes the most sense for her to make (again, I'd say it's the only move that makes sense, but I could be wrong there). :)
That is too bad. :(

Ep. 4: It wasn't a close up shot, I don't think. It was far enough way to just be discernable.

Still on Episode 4I know, that's what I've been thinking--points to previous post "SHE CAN SEE A DIFFERENCE"--I would think it has more to do with his personality, but I'm so not used to the sci-fi/superhero genre way of thinking that I hadn't even considered her camera eye. However, I think that since they set that scene after her camera eye was...removed/disabled implies that it's more to do with his character than anything else.

Of course she did, not saying that. I just think that a storyteller might have positioned it differently if they wanted to emphasize that. And also, my mind tends to gravitate that direction.

Did just a little bit of catching up and saw episode 2. My thoughts are below. Hope to catch up fully so I won't clutter up the thread with my weeks-late comments.

I do agree with some who saw that they liked the 2nd episode more than the pilot, though I think that part of that is just because the pilot is all about setting up the show - the characters, setting/theme, locations, tech (Bashful, etc.), so the 2nd episode and those subsequent can be a little less set-up and more in-depth on characters and stuff.

Fish tank part was funny, and Fury's grumpiness, I felt, was in-character - Fury had been grumpy in the past, though it may have been a little overplayed in the series, as was his funny comment about the 'nice bar'.

Umm...can somebody spoiler tag a bit more about episode four? My mom made my dad and me turn it off :'(

But I liked the second and third episodes! X) I liked the second one better. Teehee. Fitz-Simmons are so awesome...I loved their little banter with Skye in that Peruvian temple-thingy

Skye really choose the wrong outfit to jump into a pool with, no? :/

Yeah. I cringed when I saw the preview, but the shot they showed in the episode was actually better. I was like: "Ooh, pretty dress--oh, but it could be a bit longer... o.O that wasn't smart."

For me, the worst thing in LOTR was when they had the heads of the soldiers catapulted over Gonder's walls. That is the one thing I try to not look at when I watch the show. I really didn't mind the gore at all with the orcs when they were getting their heads lopped off, but with humans, it's another thing entirely.

Exactly. If it's a monster or whatever, I have no problem, but people gore is another thing entirely.

True, but some things you don't show on television, and that was one of them.
Anyway, hopefully the episode this week won't be too bad.

The main synopsis of episode four is about a woman called Akela Amadour who was a former protege of Coulson. At the beginning of the show, Akela is after a suitcase of diamonds, and as it is chained to a guy's wrist, she ended up cutting it off. We don't see her doing the act, but we do see the hand in a small puddle of blood. Only other gross thing I can think of is when they needed to get the mechanical eyeball out of Akela before it killed her. They showed the mechanical eye attached to a wire when they pulled it out, but they only showed it from the side and they didn't show the eye socket or anything like that. So that part wasn't too bad. Like I said, the worst part was with the hand.

Ep. 5: I was a bit disappointed with the language and content in this episode. Especially the kiss scene between Skye and Miles. I actually skipped the second scene with them.

This episode was really interesting. There were a couple of gross moments... especially when "Scorch" killed the woman who had helped the Reina (sp?) in the lab... Ep. 4's brief moment of gore didn't both me, but this was a bit gross.

The other scene, where Scorch dies, is also disgusting. :P Him disintegrating into flames... ugh.

I also wonder how many others are on their list of people with "special abilities", and if we'll see them.

And whenever Reina started talking about Captain America and the lunchboxes and posters... I laughed because I have a Cap poster up in my room.

I wonder if the next episode will have the flower dress lady (Reina) again.

On a higher note... Fitz & Simmons were really cute in this episode. How they always hang out together, and whenever Simmons leaves the room, he follows... :D

And Coulson was terrific, as always.

I regret I ever complained about the last episode. I found the stuff in this one totally revolting. And to think I was still trying to get my sister to give it another chance. I didn't mind so much the guy exploding, but killing the doctor lady was pretty gruesome. If they keep this up, I'm going to drop it and just stick to Arrow.
