Seriously?! You won't tell us?!?! How can we tell you if it is American humor, then?!?!

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

Aaagh, ok. I don't really want to say, but I will then!

But anyway, someone says to his wife I would give you a big kiss, but your breath is bad today, or some words to that effect; and she later says something similar back to him. :P Quite disgusting in my opinion, lol.

 Please don't base your opinion of "american humor"[whatever that is] on this...though I did think it funny. Here's a more accurately paraphrased quote: "I would kiss you on the mouth, but your breath is bad this morning." :dieshappy:

I did think it sort of a gross, silly, dumb joke, but I also thought it was funny. :dieshappy:

I finally saw it and liked it pretty well.

(though it felt like it was 30 minutes too long.)

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and yes, I cried. One of the better Christian films, though we still have a looong way to go.

*sighs over the sad state of current Christian films*

The reason they had that humor in there, is because they believe actors should not kiss other actors that are not married to them. Thus, whenever a romantic scene came along, they had to get out of it. :P

It was funny, but...kind of pathetic. :D

Well, I agree that we shouldn't go around kissing those we aren't married to, even if we file with the IRA as an actor instead of a lawyer or a firefighter.

But, in Fireproof, that didn't stop them from being very romantic, and even have a nice long kiss.

In Fireproof, they actually switched out the actress with Kirk Cameron's wife...

I'm not saying that's what I would do, but...that's what they believe, and that's what they did. :D

I'm just explaining. :)

Well, I kinda agree...and personally I didn't wish to see them kiss anyway...I thought the movie had more serious problems than evading a kiss.

Right, I know of the method used in Fireproof, the point is, it didn't interrupt the story - it appeared as if the characters kissed, and that's good. There's no story we can't tell, that needs to be told, in a moving and morally upright way.

And yes, Courageous needed some work. But look at the improvement from Flywheel to Facing the Giants. And Facing the Giants to Fireproof. And Fireproof to Courageous.

Now, look at how far they've come from Flywheel, basically a $20,000 homemade movie, to Courageous, a million-dollar Indy film shot with RED EPIC Digital Cinema cameras. I see reformation of the arts taking place, if slowly.

Very. It took Warner Brothers and Disney decades upon decades.

Right. Hollywood is running scared from Indy filmmakers with today's technology.

I have not seen many good Christian movies. Correction - I haven't seen a good Christian movie. And since I'm not one to take up another person's opinion on a movie, the fact that everyone was raving about how good "Courageous" is, was lost on me.

But I was wrong.

It was So. Awesome.

I loved "Courageous". After seeing it we went straight out and watched "Facing the Giants" too. The Kendrick brothers have renewed my faith in Christian movies.

I cried for much of it. When Emily died, almost all of the grieving scenes, the speech at the end... it was so sad/funny/beautiful/awesome.

I have to admit, when Nathan opened the car door at the beginning of the film, my whole family exclaimed how silly of him it was to leave the car with the door open and the engine running to begin with, knowing his baby was in the car! Sorry. Bit heartless of us, but our parents have always emphasised to us children how important protecting your children is, and have always displayed it for us, so now seeing something like that we can only call it foolhardy. Though it was an amazing car scene.

My favourite funny parts had to be the whole "love you" scenes. Goodness, I laughed! "And say what? Tell him you don't love him?"

Andrew wrote:
I really really liked David. I don't know why, but that character just...really touched me. I think that, to me, he showed some of the most courage especially with how things like that end up in real life, usually. I would have liked to see more of him and his story throughout the movie, but like Sui said, the movie should have been three hours to fit in all the stuff we wanted them too =D

Me too! Agreed! That was one of the things I really liked about David. I reckon he had the toughest thing that required the most courage to put right, and yet he did it. I had a lot of respect for him in what he did. He was a great character, and I also loved how Nathan mentored him in that critical decision-making scene.

So yes. The short version is that I really loved it. I'm now hovering their website waiting to see what they do next.

I don't know...I agree it was foolish, but it seems like humans have a habit of doing dumb things, so it didn't strike me as out of character or anything.

I liked Courageous first time around. Second time around I was just amazed at its cheesiness, almost ridiculous piety and Christianese and yeah. Quality was good, definitely better than Fireproof but still...they're overemphasizing content over form.

I noticed stuff like that too. In their defense I've seen a lot of prefessionally-made movies have real cheesiness in them, but still it is disappointing. Even still, I can see how they have been getting better and I hope that they will continue to at the rate they've been achieving.

They've been making dramas with bits of comedy. ;) I'm interested in seeing if they could successfully extend their knack for comedy into a film that was actually a comedy.

Yeah, that'd be awesome...I'm sorta thinkin' they could, but I don't know either. But based on the hilarity in all the other movies they've made, Courageous especially, it seems like they've got what it takes. Though I imagine it'd take more to make an actual comedy plot.

I agree. Sometimes people read the stuff I write and they think it's hilarious--usually when it's supposed to be funny, too  --but if I try to write a story that is a 'funny story', then it doesn't work. Not that the jokes themselves don't work, though often that's the case, but it's hard to get any sort of plot out there amid the jokes. If they could pull it off it would be well worth watching. Especially since it would be clean!

I didn't see it as cheesy, or overtly Christian (Unless, of course, you mean that a Christian film from a Christian company made up of people mainly from a Christian church shouldn't have a Christian message as its soul and base.)

I'm with Caeli!

I've seen worse movies, acting and content wise, from professional companies. Maybe I don't have as high a standard as you guys do, but Courageous still chokes me up and causes me to laugh out loud at times. I mean, some of it was a little preachy, but is that a bad thing? I mean, it beats innuendos and potty humor. And they had a great theme going, something that every man needs to hear, if you ask me.

I thought they excelled at making this movie. Sure, some parts were kind of lame, and the acting during those emotional sections was a little off, but still, they have come a looooong way since Flywheel. I mean, they actually have a real villain-character in this film. And lets face it, Fireproof doesn't have any gunfights. XD

So, cheesy, lame, or not, this is really a sweet, original film. I also think that I'm blessed to be able to really enjoy movies for their heart and spirit, instead of being annoyed at poor acting and such. ;)

No, Fireproof just has children trapped in burning building, and cars about to be hit by trains. Nothing exciting or anything. ;)

Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

I saw Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof, and Courageous. They were all amazing, well most. Flywheel wasn't as enjoyable as the others. The others were hilarious though.

I've seen Courageous. It was very good, but I wouldn't watch it over and over (like I do with Lord of the Rings ;) )

I totally get that. I don't usually cry during sad movies, but one weird time I cried the second time I watched Bridge To Terabithia. That was a few months ago, and I'm a teen so there's the explanation.

(Sidenote: I dislike Bridge to Terebithia...and yes, I cried, but that's only part of the reason...)

I feel like watching Courageous again sometime soon, having only seen it once so far...I'd like to see it in 3D. XD Don't think that's going to happen.

I am getting notorious for reviving/posting on topics that haven't been touched for a while...

Saw it in theaters, then again on DVD, since not all of my family went to the theaters...

The Kendrick films keep getting better and better. I'm anxiously waiting for what they'll do next. *Begins to count off on fingers* Football, firefighters, police officers... Mailmen? Soccer? Doctors? Tourists? *shrugs*

That would be cool. Or CIA or FBI agents. They're a step up from policemen, after all.
