They pick the most adorable child actors in the series (despite the fact that no one under twelve acted well in the movies).

EDIT: Scratch that. No one under twenty acted well in the movies. :P

The acting over all was rather bad, I thought. :) Some of the more famous actors were good, but the others.....

I've seen all the movies and read a lot of the books. My favorite has to be the original trilogy, and out of that I think "The Empire Strikes Back" is the best.

I agree, the original three were the best ones.

It depends on what qualities you judge them by.

Duel-wise, the Prequels take first.

The lightsaber effects and the choreography more spectacular were better in the prequels but the original trilogy had way better directing, camera movement, and pacing.
I did enjoy the duel between Obi wan and Darth Vader in episode 3.

(In my opinion that is.)

The new three have advantages, mostly in things like special effects, but there are too many parts I just can't take seriously...

Word. Yeah, the duel in the third one was cool enough, but the rest of the film? Ehh....it was alright I guess, but not my favorite.

*highfives* I'm with you! The original three are awesome, and 'Empire Strikes Back' is the best! Out of the original three, George Lucas had the least amount of involvement with that one.

I had a really hard time sitting through 1 & 2 [still haven't seen 3, it's PG-13 and I've never asked to see it]. I don't really care much about anything that happened before 4. :D

Perhaps. Pre-Republic is cool, as is the time of the Sith Wars and wars with the Mandolarians.

*nods* There are exceptions. I love the story of Darth Bane and the institution of the rule that there would only be two Sith at a time. And Mandalorains are awesome in any time period.

Sadly I haven't read much about the Mandalorians. Excepting a short story detailing Boba Fett's assault on an imperial base (that one was a very fun read) and a story that involves Jaina Solo getting trained by Boba Fett, I haven't read any. :P

They fought a huge war against the Old Republic. There's also a picture of an ancient battle of Coruscant that looks like the Battle of Pelennor Fields.

Cool. :D That war is what must have decimated them before the time of the movies.

Yeah, it was.

Yeah, there were even things like mumakils and the the armies used shields and spears, but the Jedi captains had lightsabers, albeit ones on extension cords.

*smiles * I am easily turned off by bad acting. In my opinion, most of the actors in the last three movies, couldn't act. Harrison Ford was awesome, and he wasn't even an actor before the movies. :D His move into stardom is funny. :D

But obviously you all like the last three more than the first three.

Um... possibly. :P

I'd say that's... 96% likely to be true, but I'm not entirely sure with myself. :P (if we ever do reach a decision, one of us will try to let y'all know)

I do know that I enjoy the storylines/plot of the last three more than the first three (it didn't take long to come to a consensus on that). :D

I can't find it online. It was in the New Essential Guide to Chronology or something like that. It's a history textbook for the SW universe.

I'm kind of split evenly between the two, because craft-wise, the newer movies seem to be a bit better. That or the lightsaber duels are better.

By the last three, do you mean the last three released, or the original three?

I would agree that Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher were not the best of actors. But i would say they both blew Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman out of the water.

(Billy Dee Williams was a pretty bad actor too.)

Yeah.

My fondness for the original trilogy lost part of its luster during a marathon with friends when we watched them all in order. The jump from III to IV was brutal.

*chuckles * I agree, Varon.

My previous comments being said, I will add that the origional trilogy has some of the most memorable characters. R2, C3po(who I think were better in IV,V, and VI), Chewy, Solo- and of course, you have the iconic Darth Vadar. :D

And then the animated "Clone Wars" tv series ruins something by having Darth Maul be not-dead. :P

Darth Maul > Darth Vader
The above is just my opinion. Anyone with a double-bladed lightsabers and looks like he does is cool.

WHAT?!!? You ruined it for me!!! I haven't watched any of the 4th season yet. I just finished watching the third season.

Are you serious? Is that who is in the orb we saw at the end of season three? Now, I like lots of their twists, but that would so irk me!

I haven't watched any of it. I just know it from SW news-sites and SF discussion groups.

Well, I shall see if it is true when the 4th season comes out. That may just be speculation. I have seen lots of speculation about what people thought they were doing in the series, and none of it was true. *feels better *

I did see him (Or someone who looks just like him) in clips, and maybe the trailer.

Oh yes. He had 2 brothers, which have shown up in the end of the third series. Very cool twist, I might add. But him still being alive would be stupid. Obi killed him. We all saw it in the first movie.

Ah. Maybe it wasn't him then.

Right. Nobody survives being cut in half and then falling into part of a power generation system.

I like them for what they are. A look at what things could have been like, before Anakin became Vadar. The only thing that is a bit of a stretch is that Anakin has a padawan. However, the characters are pretty consistent with their live action personas.

Also, I love the clones. We see a side to them that we never saw in the movies. We see that the Jedi view their lives as valuable. They aren't just expendable. And they have friendships with these men. Making it all the more horrific that they betray them, in the end, because of their genetic programming.

Okay.

One thing I noticed about the clones seemed expendable in the actual movies was because the movie-makers seem to have no military sense.

If I was teaching their military art & science course, I'd flunk them.

I'm sure others would as well, especially in the one episode of the Clone Wars I watched. They were on one planet or another and they were trying to take the capital. Anakin was replaced by a Jedi who did things by the book and had four arms. The Clones went along the main road kind of bunched together. That was a *headesk* moment for me.

Then there's also the battle at the end of episode II where the two armies just charged each other.

*nods * Part of the reason why I like Anakin is because he isn't by the books. :D

Yeah, my Daddy says the same thing about the old Honorary combat where men would stand in a line and shoot one another. It makes no sense. :P

Well, actually, I have been told by someone who studies things like that that it actually makes lots of sense. You have an army, and it needs to work together. Battles are really loud, and the only ways to communicate are through drum/horn/whatever signals and messengers. Messengers are slow, and there's only so many signals you can use. So instead, you use visual signals; the officers. The men follow their officers, who follow the officers ahead of them, and so on. So you need to be in your 'silly' line. Or something like that.

Of course, when it comes to the Clone Wars, you have radios, sorry, comlinks, so the whole argument is gone. You still have enough men you might fight somewhat similarly, but you won't be charging up close, for sure. Star Wars in general is lacking in tactics, both on the ground and in space. Simply horrible.

You're right. It doesn't, even though it was the only way muskets were effective. I don't think the explanation that they were following is a good explanation. *makes note to make a thread on theory of war somewhere*

For the Clone Wars, you're right. The Republic had a highly mobile, well-trained, army that was superior to the droids. Then they just rushed them.

And yet you have a very effective Stone Wall Jackson who was unconventional, caught his enemies by surprise, and kept his men in perfect order without keeping them in a line.

Same time period, different method. Very effective.
