I regret I ever complained about the last episode. I found the stuff in this one totally revolting. And to think I was still trying to get my sister to give it another chance. I didn't mind so much the guy exploding, but killing the doctor lady was pretty gruesome. If they keep this up, I'm going to drop it and just stick to Arrow.

And arrow isn't gruesome? As the hood he racked up a ridiculous body count, though they have changed that. And just last episode they had a Psycho-killer murdering young women by hardening their internal organs.

It's kind of interesting.... I haven't watched any of these movies that y'all are mentioning (including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D :D), but watching y'all attempt to compare them in the level of...what do you call it...the close-your-eyes-factor, I suppose, is kind of funny. It's so hard to make a quantitative measurement. How does it compare, do you know, to something like 'Saving Private Ryan'? :/

I guess it would depend on how sensitive you are to violence/brief gore. IMDb has a content advisory: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2364582/par ... tt_stry_pg .

I was about to compare it, but decided against it. Uh, with the gore just watch AoS. XD

How do they compare to Saving Private Ryan? Mmm, I'd say that movie is a hundred times gorier, probably, since none of these others one warranted an R rating like that one does.

I'd also say AoS is a lot tamer than LotR or Indiana Jones. Those are both pretty gruesome at times. Finger gets bitten off, people's heads being catapulted over the wall, heads melting and exploding, being devoured by insects, Denethor setting himself on fire, and so on.

Arrow is more gruesome as well. Not as apparently messy, but it's pretty brutal. He kills a lot of people, some torture, and much more intense fight scenes.

It amuses me a little, actually to see all this discussion, because as a reader of the comics, the tv series is much less gruesome in how people die. I can't count how many times I've seen Wolverine's skeleton or aliens torn apart. Plus gore and stuff doesn't bother me at all, and never has, so I might not be the best to ask.

I don't care about the body count the guy racked up. Personally, I say more power to him. Who needs the bad guys living just to cause more harm?
Arrow does have its moments, but so far, it has not been nearly as gory as Shield has. As for the last episode, they didn't show anything gruesome. Yes, the way the women died wasn't pretty, but at least nothing was shown like in the last episode of Shield where we saw the lady being consumed by fire.

Internal organs being hardened sounds infinitely more gruesome than what was shown on AoS (I guess I can't really tell though since I haven't seen Arrow). The woman being incinerated was definitely brutal, but I hardly found it gruesome..

Disagree. SHIELD may have its faults, but it is a fun show to watch. Some episodes have definitely been better than others.

I feel that way too, that the show is good, despite its "generic archetypes", but technically, doesn't every show have those? (And even though I've only seen first 2 episodes so far)

Anyway, I am slightly worried because of their viewers (It seems like every TV show's viewership has been going down). Breakdown of viewers per episode below:

Episode 1: 12.2 million
Episode 2: 8.66 million
Episode 3: 7.87 million
Episode 4: 7.85 million
Episode 5: 7.39 million

That's a decline, though, not as big once you hit episode 3.

I guess I'm just worried whether or not they'll get renewed for Season 2. Hopefully, ABC will recognize that it's a new setting for the channel, and it's a Marvel live-action TV series based off of a film franchise that has made $5,017,667,989 out of its worldwide box office (Not counting Thor: The Dark World, but all films before that), and they'll give it another season or two to for the show to find its footing.

I like shield, if it gets canceled it will just be another repeat of the Firefly mistake. So if they cancel it I will give up on TV. And what generic archetypes? These are some of the most original characters I've seen in a long time. I guess if people aren't full on psychopathic murderers in television nowadays that makes them unoriginal, thats getting so freaking annoying. I am so tired of seeing the same old depressing archetypes and storyline repeated over and over again, and the second anything fun or interesting comes out "That's unoriginal" or its "Using outdated, cookie cutter archetypes". Uh no everything else is, and you just want to see some freaking depressing satanic trash!

Not you guys just the guy who wrote that article.

Ehehm! Sorry about ranting like that it just bothers me.

I have to say, only Skye and Phil and Fitz-Simmons strike me as somewhat original.

They're nowhere near Firefly level. Or Dollhouse. Although I think the show so far is almost on par with the first few episodes of Dollhouse (which got much, much better toward the end of season one and incredible in season two).

So I have hope that they'll pull it together and the actors will settle into their characters more and the dialogue will get better. I really have been annoyed by various pieces of dialogue. But I'm sort of a dialogue snob, so. Ha.

Even Skye isn't actually that unique. She's also a fairly common character archetype, the sassy genius girl with a painful past.
Not entirely sure about Coulson though.

Fitz & Simmons are definitely the most unique of the bunch.

She was better before the last episode. Yeah. I'm hoping that was a sympathy act and she's still hiding her real intentions.

This last episode was a real emotional roller-coaster ride and I'm lovin it! Its starting to feel like it could be on par with firefly. Or even better.

Ep. 6 Looks like Colson's the real deal from that scar, likely brought back with some complex tech. (Alla ME 2 Shep) or some powerful mojo (If you know what I mean.)

Episode Six.

I'm not delighted with Skye -- her character arc seems pretty standard right now. But man, this episode... O.O I screamed, I cried... I really wasn't sure if Joss was going to kill of Simmons, due to his reputation. Ackpeth. Lots of perfectly done touching scenes that were difficult nailed today.

Ep. 6 Colson is turning into a major hero too, the way he stayed with that guy, up until the end, that took guts. Simmons was really brave and noble too, not to mention Fitz had some major character development going on as well. Everyone behaved so heroically this episode! well with exception to Skye, but she didn't really have any time to shine. Who else thinks their is something going on between Colson and May? I sense some energy between those two, and maybe its just me, but when Cohlson was scolding Simmons, I thought, Colsons like the dad!

Just watched the pyro-kinetic episode:

I thought it was lacking. The heart that should have been there somehow wasn't. Like it was going for it and didn't quite make it there. Other than that, it was okay. Glad some things about Skye are cleared up. I'll go back and read the speculations and stuff on here later. :D

People, people. It's Coulson. C-O-U-L-S-O-N. That's how you spell it, just fyi. ;)

Episode...what is this...6?: AAACCCKKK!

So, I LOVED this one, absolutely loved it. I had my hands covering the bottom half of my face for the last ten minutes and only took the down when I caught a glimpse of my own reflection and realized how silly it looked.

Also, the whole thing that apparently Coulson is really still Coulson is such a beautiful relief and I love it, even though I practically cried for him. Yes, yes, I'm like that. I cry over fictional characters.

Question: Why did it see necessary for Simmons to jump? I loved the drama, and Fitz trying to save her and all that, but why?

This episode was much better than the pyro one. I also did not care for Skye and her boyfriend. :P

Abigail and those who are giving up on this, you should totally watch the latest episode, because it is good and has no gore and it's clever and just wonderful and I'm going to shut my mouth now. :x

Because the electrical discharge that would have killed her would also have blasted the bus apart and killed everyone on board.

Caeli, if your frustration before your spoiler-coded post meant it was hard for you to keep track of the episode #, I'll settle for you posting the episode title, if not, you can check the wikipedia page for the # and title.

Caeli: Episode six was the "FZZT" episode, and the one you are referring to.

LOL. Thanks, that wasn't it. I was just reacting to the episode itself. XD Sorry.

True. I hadn't thought about the Magnetic aspect.

It would be like setting off a tiny nuclear bomb inside the plane. Normal nuclear bombs can damage electronic things many miles away from their actual destructive range.

Makes me want to wrap my car in foil as well as my head.

Haha, JK.

Whilst I was away dog sitting, I was able to watch an episode of this on a freeview channel! I really enjoyed it, I can't remember all their names, as I couldn't get used to them all in the one episode, but it was really good. I liked the couple that work in the lab together. :)

Episode 7:

First time I've been able to watch the episode as it was airing on tv since the pilot. :D Loved it. This was wonderful, although I sill want to see Ward jump out of his character mold and do something unexpected and more complex than what he has thus far been scripted. I adored the way that Fitz and Ward worked together, and how Coulson told them both to watch out for each other. Also, Skye's and Simmons's 'covert operation' was hilarious.

I wasn't sure what to think of Coulson's little, shall we call it a break down? When he goes to talk to Maye (sp?). I loved the way she communicated everything to him without a word, that was hilarious. But after having so many questions about Coulson, and having him as a side character in the movies we originally saw him in, it's unusual to be seeing him out of his depth--at least in this manner. I think it's good, I'm just not used to it.

I loved this episode. It was good and strong. I practically gasped and pointed and jumped up and down when Coulson hesitated after replying "It's a magical place" yet again. I knew right then that he was suddenly realizing that that is what he always says, and that he was wondering why.

And ideas about the SHIELD agent and Skye's parents? Conspiracy theories on that or anything else?

That's Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons. Or better known as FitzSimmons.

Episode 7 was really good. :D It leaves us so much to speculate on, especially with regards to Coulson, Tahiti, and his not being able to access files though he is Level 8.

Oh, they say Episode 8 is a post-Thor one?

They said that, and I'm a bit nervous about seeing it, as I've not watched the movie yet. My brother and dad watched it though, and they watched the preview for the next episode with bewhilderment because they didn't see anything that looked connected. *shrug* It'll still be good. :D

It'll be cleaning up the mess caused by the attack in the trailer, I think.

I love you Coulson.

Anna told me that Portland, Oregon was also referenced in Avengers, during the conversation between Pepper and Coulson. That conversation also had to do with music. (Seriously, she's seen Avengers too many times. )

I believe Pepper was asking Coulson about his current relationship, and he referenced a cellist in Portland.

I don't think I caught that.

It's funny how Portland is either known for its classical music or its hippies or its marijuana.

Episode 8: Suddenly, Tahiti seems sinister.

And Ward, a lot of them are speculating about Ward's family background. Some are saying he's the brother to that mutant whose "special power" is to create your fear. The shape-shifting telepath named Terence Ward. Any thoughts?
