Howdy hey,
Finishing up my summer with some reading and MacDonald's been on my list for a while. :D Seeing as how he was one of C.S. Lewis' inspirations I thought I'd check out some of his books.

I started with Phantastes. Has anyone else read this book? What did you think of it? Did anyone else find the plot (or lack thereof) somewhat disjointed?

Overall I left this book pretty disappointed but I'd love to hear what you all have to say about it. Also, maybe you could recommend some others for me to try? :)

I've never read Phantastes (should I? :P), but if you want a sample of what is considered one of MacDonald's best works, you could try reading The Princess and the Goblin. :)

But pull it aside, tear it down, a glimpse of freedom lies beyond. Through the hole, open your eyes, see the sun. With it is a brightness that burns, that scars; that hurts yet heals. Shrinking back, yet reaching out, within sight is the sky, within reach is the world. Leave the broken cloths of the past behind and go pursue something worth pursuing. A new reason worth living for. A new dream.
You are alive.
You are ready.
Go. You are being called.

I agree with Blizzard - read the Princess and the Goblin. And then the Princess and Curdie, the sequel. I want to see Focus on the Family do an adaptation of TPatG for Radio Theatre.

Ooh, Focus on the Family RT is cool!

I read both the Princess and the Goblin and then the sequel. And I came out of them liking MacDonald. :D
