Who has seen the BBC tv series, Merlin? They're currently showing the new series 5 on the BBC.

I really enjoy them. I've seen them all over time, and have been keeping up with series five on the BBC I player. I'm waiting for the new episode that comes out tonight. :)

I like the fact that the acting is superb, even though the boys are younger at the start of the series. You expect mediocre acting sometimes then, but not in this case. And the cast seem to work well together. I enjoyed seeing Merlin's relationship with Arthur develop over time.

So have you seen it, and if so what did you think? Which is your favourite season, and why?

Augh, I've not seen the series since I don't have access to watching BBC shows, but I keep hearing how good Merlin is...*occasionally wishes she lived in England, where such shows are commonly viewable*

You can watch them online now, I think. Some of the first seasons anyway. But yea, it is good - at least I like them. :)

*Sigh* Trouble is, I don't have enough time on the Internet to watch things...

Yay!!! A place for Merlin fans to gather!

I believe that I liked all of the seasons! The best one, for me, has been Season 4. However, as I said when I first watched Seasons 3 and 4, I think that they keep getting better with each season. Season 2 is better than 1, 3 is better than 2, 4 is better than 3, and I hope 5 will be better than 4.

Unfortunately, now that it's been cancelled, I hope that the producers pursue their 'movie trilogy' idea.

Cancelled?!?! It has been cancelled? We are only in season 1.

I think the reason it was cancelled was partially on BBC and the producers.

BBC cancelled it (I think), but then the producers came out saying that, "We didn't expect it to go beyond 5 seasons", so I don't know.

But a few months ago, I know that they were throwing the idea around of a trilogy of movies - initially, I heard that it was going to follow the Knights of the Round Table between the 1-year break we had between Seasons 3 and 4, and then 4 and 5, but later I heard that it was going to be a reboot.

So I don't know. We'll have to wait and see.

I think Seasons 1 and 2 of Merlin can be found and watched for free on Hulu, and Season 3 should be in your local library by now...I think. If not, there should be full episodes on Youtube...

I have to wait for it to air on Syfy (January 4th, yay!!!!) so I've had to avoid the wiki for 3 months (And the wiki is where I got most of the information)

I LOVE Merlin!!! You should be able to watch all four seasons on YouTube and on Netflix.
I like how the show grows up, so to speak. I enjoy the lightness of the first season and how the subsequent seasons become deeper (but still fun!).
Who's your favorite character? (If you can choose :D!)
I like Arthur the best, partly because I'm married to a guy who's a lot like him. :)
But I love Merlin, and my favorite knight would have to be Gwain. hehe

No offense with to your husband but... I don't exactly like Arthur.

I watched, like, half of the first episode. I did like it, but the program I used to download it was only a trial version, and unfortunately it cut off downloading it at the half-way mark. Never got around to watching anything else...

@Mopa: Arthur is a mean brat in the first season, and maybe a bit in the second one, but by seasons 3 and 4, he's fine.

Hmm...Favorite character is going to be Merlin, of course! My favorite knight would probably be Gwaine or Percival, though.

Oh Arthur's great! And I love Merlin too! Season 5 would probably be my favourite season, it was pretty fantastic! It just finished over here over Christmas.

I have seen bits and pieces, and I have really liked what I've seen. I'm planning on watching the series, at some point. :) I imagine they are going with the "Morgana is the love child" take, am I correct?

Merlin's great! The first season was slow (I actually quit for a bit, then got back into it). Some of the acting, in my opinion, seems played too much for the audience. Some of the looks Morgana gives seem too open for her to be expressing while trying to deceive everyone.
Still, a well done series over all (though, I hope they end it well).

Merlin.... A WONDERFUL show. Favorite Character: Merlin (that's a no-brainer). Favorite knight: Gawaine. and I always felt sorry for Uther - and arthur was annoying, but that's probably because I knew what would happen and he kept doing everything wrong.

And the ending was absolutely heartbreaking - right up there with Sherlock...

My favorite series is probably the first, just because Merlin is more innocent and happy in that one. But the fifth, he is sad and knows what's going to happen, but will still do anything to stop it.

My family and I just finished season...3, I think and the ending made me sooo happy because The Knights! The Round Table! Guinevere! Everything!

Now, to those who have maybe seen more of the show than I have...I have read very few Arthurian tales. As a matter of fact, I've only read retellings. It's on my list of things to do. Anyway. Part of what draws me to the Arthur legends is all the quests and the "I am the keeper of this bridge, here's what you have to do to get past" and the more fun and rambling aspect of them. (Like the episode where Arthur goes on a quest for the trident of the Fisher King.) What I want to know is, is there any more of this in the BBC series? Because, honestly, I can only take the line of "Oh, what that person is doing is impossible, must be magic, if Uther finds out they'll be in big trouble, Merlin go do the thing and make sure Arthur doesn't see you doing it" so many times. XD

I do love this series, though. Don't get me wrong.

On a more serious note: Any opinions on the spell-casting? My dad doesn't care for it at all, and it's not particularly my favorite aspect of the show either. It strays a little too close to sound demonic at times, I think. (Even though I know for a fact that what they're saying is complete gibberish.)

I know. Series 3 was very exciting for me. In my opinion, Series 4 built on it and it was even better for me. I still haven't watched Series 5 though....

I was actually never exposed to Arthurian legends. I mean, I kind of was, by name and stuff, like I heard the name Avalon, knew the basic story about the Lady of the Lake, etc., but never too much about it, so a lot of the series was fresh for me.
