Quote:
How to Train Your Dragon remains one of DreamWorks most widely-acclaimed computer-animated features (if not the most), and made just under half a billion dollars worldwide in theaters; so, it was little shock when a sequel was announced. How to Train Your Dragon 2 aims to topple its predecessor in quality – which means dropping some of the more cliche plot elements – by delivering a story with richer emotional qualities, humor, and action sequences – in order to produce what Jay Baruchel (who voices the young Viking Hiccup) has promised will be “a pretty incredible, beautiful flick.”

Time will tell, as to whether or not the sequel manages to clear that high bar.

So, what are ya'lls thoughts so far?

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

"Meh" is my response. They made half a billion dollars on HTTYRD and it seems like they are pumping out a sequel just to dip back into that cash cow. The fact they are telling us they will be "dropping some of the more cliche plot elements" is not very encouraging either.

The above is all lies. I'm so excited for the sequel. I've watched the original no less than 20 times and is in the top ten of my all time favorite animated movies. I may or may not see the midnight showing for HTTYD 2 dressed up as Gobber. :D

Hiccup and Astrid (is that how you spell her name?) are five years older!

I found the first film to be a good, though not great, fantasy film, and I figure that the sequel has a chance to be as good. We'll find out. :D

Yes, the plot takes place 5 years after the original story, that is confirmed, though the details and the synopsis are still a bit sketchy and not really official, from what I have seen. Most of the info is fan based.

I need to find the press release image though for the concept designs for the now older Hiccup and Astrid....

Thanks, Blayne. I knew where to get the photo, I meant I needed to get it to post in this thread, but the link is good and will allow people to see it if they want. :)

Is it just me or does Hiccup look disproportionately big in relation to Toothless now? Also, his nose. o.O

I will be going to see this in the theater in 3D, unless the reviews say it's horribly bad. If there's one film I wish I could have seen in 3D, it would have been HTTYD.

HtTyD was the most amazing movie I have ever seen in 3D!!! I am so sorry you didn't see it in 3D, E.

I'm always wary when Dreamworks puts out a new animation... I think How to Train Your Dragon is the only one that I've really liked. One or two others were okay, but not on my top list of movies, you know?

But this is the girl that is nearly always afraid that a sequel will ruin a continuing storyline, so... :P

I think they did a good job making Hiccup and Astrid look older - except Hiccup's hair. Please cut his hair a little tidier. :D

No... I just figured out what it looks like! A thatched roof. That's it! Or would you say that vikings should have roofs on their heads...? :D

I really should. I have absolutely no idea if Hiccup is the dragon or the boy. :P I guess I can't see 2 without seeing 1 first, huh? Ah, well, I have a year before 2 comes out. :)

*laughs * No, you must see one first. ;)

I was pretty impressed with the older impressions of our Viking duo. Astrid looks very similar, her features have just matured a bit, and Hiccup looks a bit different, but mostly the same just with maturing features. But boys change more than girls, facially, during the maturity process, so I think it's good.

As for the nose thing, E, I think that will get better when they actually animate the characters for movement. At least I think....

I saw HTTYD, but not at the cinema.

I might see the sequel some day, but I won't go to the cinema to see it. Sometimes sequels are just don't live up to your expectations though, especially if you're expecting it to be just as good as the first one.

Me personally, I like HTTYD! When I saw a youtube HTTYD2 movie trailer im really wanting see it. BUT.... Im hoping they don't mess it up. Like I think they did with Narnia. The first one of those is my favorite, the second one not so much, the third one is my second favorite, out of those three. While Narnia is mentioned, does anyone know when The Magicians Nephew is coming out?

I think the Silver Chair will be the next one. I'm not sure though... Anyway, I'm super excited about HTTYD2! :D It's coming out a week before my birthday, so maybe movie tickets t'will be an early birthday present? We'll see... I'm glad they're bringing his mother into the story, I was rather hoping they would.
