I want to know what people think about The Help (the book not the movie) because I just finished it this morning and I was crying because of the ending. I really wish something good would have happened to her in the end. I definitely grew to love Mae Mobley! And then Abileen left her! I was so sad!! What do you think? Its an amazing book! If you havent read it you should!

Sorry to move it again, but it should go in The Watchtower, as that is where we post about books we have read and so on. :)

I haven't ever read it before, Book, what is it about?

I haven't read it before, and I'm not sure I will if it's sad. I can't usually take sad books. :P I'll be watching this thread, though, and maybe I'll read it anyway later, depending on what other people think. :D

I have only seen the movie. Is it a lot different from the book?

I haven't read this book, but I've heard a lot of good things about it, especially from my mom. *adds to her mountainous need-to-read list* ;)

I really like the film of The Help, and I've heard a lot of good reviews for the book. I should read it sometime. :)

There's one or two things to look out for though. In the book there's a lot of bad language, not to mention how one of the characters lies a lot (it got a bit annoying after a while). And this one scene (not the pie scene) that could have been taken out of the book (it's not in the movie, thankfully). I found the movie a bit cleaner than the book, and enjoyed it better. Although some things (as always) are better explained in the book than in the movie.
But I wouldn't recommend the book to young readers (I feel like the book was intended for readers older than myself). I might recommend the movie though, to some who are okay with it.
I quite enjoyed the soundtrack of the movie (done by Thomas Newman, who did the soundtracks to Little Women, Finding Nemo, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and others).

I have only seen the movie, though I did enjoy the film. My mom said that the movie was practically the book on screen (though obviously some stuff had been left out). Do you think that's a fair comparison? Or do you think the movie really didn't do the book justice?

I saw this because a friend wanted me to watch it with her.

Being a history guru, I was unhappy with things said and done, specifically the amount of language used in a time period where women in general, white or black, did not cuss. Once or twice I could have handled. The constant usage turned me off completely.

Celia Foote was an amazing character, though! I loved her despite the fact she was a bit of a ditsy blond. =)
