Who's going to see it? On opening night? What do you think will unfold in the conclusion of Christopher Nolan's epic trilogy? Will Batman die?

I don't usually get too excited about films, but I'm gleeful over this one. It. will. be. e.p.i.c.

Nolan is one of my favorite directors. And his all star cast for this film is amazing.

I'm really excited too, and I was really surprised that Anne Hataway plays Cat Woman, but that's just me. (I thought the Riddler was going to be in this one, but apparently not...)

I don't know if I'll see it opening night or not. *lives in a small town 30-45 minutes from a theater* :P

I sorta hope there's more movies in this series that do involve the Riddler and the Penguin. :D

I heard a lot of bad things about the first one, (Is it the first one? Dark Knight? Anyway one of them) so I never watched it. So I won't go and see this one either. :) I moved this to Films by the way. :)

I'll most likely see the midnight showing with my brothers. We're really excited and will probably wear batman shirts and wristbands. One brother has Batman socks with little capes on them he'll wear to the movie.

Batman Begins was the first one.

The Dark Knight came after that.

The Dark Knight Rises is going to be the final installment in the trilogy.

I shall really try not to get too worked up about some people not liking them. ;) Yes, they're rather dark, and a little gritty, but that's a huge part of why they are so good!

The messages in them and the questions they bring up are really good, and I love the symbolism, and the drama is handled really well, and they're really clean...*continues to geek out about Batman* Oh...and did I mention Christian Bale is in them?

LOL. Anyway. :) You can probably guess that I'll be going to see it at some point. Probably not opening night, since my town has a curfew, but...:P

Azriel- And who do you think you are, running round leaving scars, collecting your jar of hearts, and tearing love apart? You're gonna catch a cold from the ice inside your soul, so don't come back to me. Don't come back at all...

Dude. She's awesome.

Yes, Batman Begins came first... an *amazing* way to open the trilogy, with Liam Neeson of all people playing the villain... soooo good.

Then you had The Dark Knight. Oh. My. Word. Heath Ledger's final performance of his life deserved much more than the Best Actor Academy Award he received for the role. People will study his performance a century from now to learn how to portray the perfect villain. He actually became depressed because of his role, and became addicted to anti-depressants that eventually killed him. :( He gave it his all, and it is phenomenal. Heath Ledger's Joker is the greatest on-screen villain I have ever seen.

Not to mention Nolan's other favorites, like Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, etc.

I think it's probably a good thing that Nolan has creative control over the film, and is deciding to end it all now, in a winner-take-all two-and-a-half hour roller coaster ride.

In the comics, Bane kills the Batman. In the film... who knows? Whatever happens, it will be a film I'd bet money on to make my top ten favorites list.

And yes, the films are extremely dark, but that's the point.

My mom said "The joker looks evil to me, demonic."

And I said "EXACTLY!!!"

Too many times the villains look all cute and cuddly. Not so here.

And I love the way the Batman sacrifices all for the city of Gotham... he's hunted, and sought out, after everything he did for them. The ending of the Dark Knight is amazing:

Batman: You'll hunt me. You'll condemn me, set the dogs on me. Because that's what needs to happen. Because sometimes... the truth isn't good enough. Sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded.
Gordon's Son: Batman? Batman! Why is he running, Dad?
Commissioner James Gordon: Because we have to chase him.
Gordon's Son: He didn't do anything wrong.
Commissioner James Gordon: Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight.

The Biblical parallels are imistakeable, and that's why, I almost hope he does give it all, as the trailer makes mention of, in the third film.

Well...for the TYPE of villain (meaning full-out, psychopathic, pure sin), Heath Ledger did the most fantastic performance.

However, there are other types of villains that I appreciate as well. (Loki, anyone? :D)

Also, the Batman movies raise really, really good philosophical questions. How much of the bad guy's methods can you use to defeat said bad guy? How long fighting evil before you become evil yourself? How much influence can one man really have in a world dying in darkness? Is the world an ocean of chaos, or is there purpose? Are we products of external forces, or do our choices matter?

Etc, etc, etc....

AND it's highly quotable. I LOVE this quote by Alfred describing the Joker,

Quote:
Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

And yeah, I'm hoping, but slightly afraid that Batman IS going to sacrifice his life for Gotham. I went to see the Avengers again last night, and in the trailer Catwoman said, "You don't owe them anymore. You've given them everything!" And all he said was, "Not yet."

Sooo...*holds breath* We'll see.

And now that my extreme geekdom has been revealed, I shall stop talking. :dieshappy:

I am very exited for the dark knight rises.
The dark knight is my favorite superhero film so I'm hoping for much from this one.

(Plus Chris Nolan is one of my favorite directors.)

I haven't seen any of The Dark Night films, and don't intend to... Though it's sounding a little like I may have to study this villain for writing research purposes... o.O

Amen to everything Willow said...

Haha, I heard Alfred's voice when you read that. I love Michael Caine.

Almost every line of the entire Dark Knight film is quotable. Far above par writing.

Nolan is one of my favorite directors, and that's not a credit I give lightly, as a film-major.

I'm hoping The Dark Knight Rises sets a new Box Office world record (The Dark Knight is number three all time...)

And I'm hoping it gets Nolan and his team some Academy Awards, though, my loyalties will be pretty evenly split with the Hobbit film coming out in December.

Either way, 2012 is a good year for the film world. It's exciting.

And yes, Az, you *MUST* study this villian.

My friends I might go at some point once its out. I was thinking the same thing. Will Batman die? I have no idea. He might. Nor is there a Robin to take up the mask and continue the fight, either as Batman or as Nightwing.

It's one of the greatest film trilogies I have ever seen, both in acting, writing, and even in the nuances of what it makes viewers think about.

Yes. Definitely.

Funny thing - Nolan went to Warner with his idea for Inception, they said "sure, do it!" and he was like "No, I need practice first". So he did the first two DK films as practice for Inception. Yet, the trilogy lives on, and is the more popular of his creations.

I enjoy these films for their weightiness. They're not just superhero films, they're morality tales. They're the myths and legends of our time, ones that make us think and consider the moral implications that each situation brings to the table.

And Dark Knight is the one film that I like more each time I watch it. :)

I am very interested (and stoked) to see what Nolan does in his conclusion to the series. From the trailers, it looks like it's going to be the best one yet, despite what the early reviewers are saying.

Agreed.

It will be very interesting how it turns out, especially with the possibility that he might die.

That would be...sad but epic. Judging from what I've seen, he just might die...which would be...well, you know.

Can I say as well, as a side note, the soundtrack is AWESOME! Especially the last track: "Rise".

I actually watched the first one shortly after commenting on this thread; however I didn't like it, so I won't be seeing this one. :D

I'm the only one who doesn't go to theaters.

I must say I'm intrigued as to what will happen in the third movie, but not enough to buy a movie ticket. :D (then again, I'm not sure if that situation is possible )

I saw it last night. 'Twas epic!

But I'm not giving out spoilers yet. I'll just say that for me, it sent me thinking back to 9/11 a few times.

So, who else has seen it?

I did. I liked it. I thought it wrapped everything up nicely and ended the trilogy in a good way.

I saw it on Sunday. I'm a total fan of Nolan's Batman movies (can you tell?), so not surprisingly, I loved it.

That said, I think it could've ended a lot better. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight open up so many deep questions and themes. But then, in the conclusion, Nolan gets so tied up in those questions that the blade of his worldview isn't sharp enough to cut him loose. I see this trilogy as yet another example--though a very well-made and worthwhile example--of secular storytelling that sees a point of truth, pursues it, and totally misses it. Which is sad.

I still like the movies a lot, though.

Ok so after saying I wasn't going to see it.....I ended up going to see it. My brother came to stay last weekend and he said he wanted to take me out for the day, just me and him as a special treat. He took me out for tea, and then took me to the cinema and told me were were going to see this. :D I loved it, it was absolutely epic. Just shows that if you don't like one film in a series, it doesn't mean you won't like the next. Brilliant film all 'round.

I saw it. It was an amazing end to the trilogy.

Do not read unless you've seen the movie: Okay. Breakdown of Alfred seeing Wayne.

First, Alfred said that every year he imagined seeing him there. So in the end of the movie, it doesn't necessarily mean that it was really Wayne, it could have been his imagination.

However, he did not meet Catwoman, and she was the person sitting at the table with Wayne, correct?

Also, there is a Batman reboot coming out...2013/2014. People are saying that it is too soon, because when the Batman reboot comes out, the Christian Bale/Christopher Nolan I always get those names confused... one will still be 'fresh in the viewers minds' and they will sub-consciously compare it to the Dark Knight trilogy (Like The Amazing Spider-Man)

(People think that the Batman reboot will be a part of DC trying to combat Marvel's Avenger story arc with the Justice League, which is why it is coming out so soon, but I don't know...)

Honestly, I can't see the Batman trilogy as Batman any more. The last movie was way off tone from Batman (Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie). But it didn't feel like Batman. Seeing Bane like that was as big a betrayal as the nipple suit from Batman and Robin (Except it wasn't as funny). Catwoman was ok, but they named Robin "Robin." That's just lazy. Come on, you just completely ignored one of the most popular characters in comics, especially in the Batman continuity. Dick Greyson you couldn't even be bothered to use Tim Drake, or as unpopular as they are, Jason Todd or Damian Wayne? Not to mention the movie looked like a war movie as opposed to Batman. Sorry, ranting. It was a good movie, just didn't feel like Batman.

That's one of the things I like about the Nolan trilogy, actually. I've never seen any other Batman movies or read any comics so I have no idea what Batman is 'supposed' to be like. But I really like how each movie is so different. Horror/Psychological Thriller, Crime Thriller, and War Epic.

I enjoyed TDKR but I thought it could have been better in places. The whole Batman leading an army thing, I thought was a little out of place. I agree with DawnBringer in a way, because there were some parts that just didn't feel like Batman, but overall it was a decent film.
I am kind of anxious to see how the reboot will be. I heard rumors that it may not come out till 2015 or 2016, but seeing as how Warner is trying to get the Justice League out in 2015, that will probably put off a reboot for some time.

No, I think that if they want Justice League, they're going to put Batman in, which is why when I heard that they were rebooting Batman (I think it's official now, not sure), they are either going to approach (Spoilers for ending of Dark Knight Rises!) Joseph Gordon-Levitt since they implied that he would take over as Batman or use the Bat-cave and stuff as Robin... or they will reboot it completely so they can use him in Justice League.

In that case, the reboot will come in 2014-2015 before Justice League

From what I've heard, Batman is definitely going to be in the Justice League film.
I think the reboot is official as well. Because of the universe Christopher Nolan created, it's so realistic you can't really have any type of fantasy. That's my opinion anyway.
As for a Batman film coming out in 2014-2015, I don't know. It would be nice, but I have heard that they are considering using the Justice League to reboot Batman and then they'll have a film with him after.
