It doesn't really have a difference. It's just for the people who want a big event during the summer as well, so they can write more often. Y'know, an official event where they can discuss things with other writers and such. It's basically just a summer NaNoWriMo.

It's more lenient. It encourages writing whatever you want – novel, journal, blog, whatever. And you can set your own word count goal, too. It's pretty cool.

Do I need to set my cabin preferences someway specific? As you can see, this is my first time... :p

I don't know for sure... this is my first time as well. I was thinking we'd wait until we knew of about eight HW-ers, and then request to get a cabin with those eight, in the hopes that if several people requested a cabin together the mods would be more inclined to give in. XD

Ha! That makes sense. And who knows? It just might work!

If things are the same as last year, then the cabin settings are an electronic system and there's no way for the mods to manually set a cabin, it's all programmed. The system resets (Aka, assigns all those who are not in a cabin to a cabin) every 24 hours.

So if you all want to be in a cabin together, what you have to do is "opt out" Or, since they have not started assigning cabins yet, just set it up for who you want and skip the opt out step.of your current cabin all on the same day, and have your requests as the same people. Then when the systems resets you'll hopefully all get in the same cabin.

I just poked around the website, and it looks like they will not start assigning cabins for eight more days. Then the system will start assigning every 24 hours.

*still doesn't understand* When I go to set up 'cabin settings', it gives me the option of listing the users whom I want to 'camp' with. It says something to the effect of, "We can't guarantee you'll get who you want in your cabin, but we'll try our best!".

Yes, that is what it's supposed to do, since no one is in a cabin yet and will not be in a cabin for eight more days. So you can just go to cabin settings and put in the names.


As personalized as that message may sound, the cabin setting is not manual. It's a program. It wouldn't be practical for the mods to have to sort through thousands of users and manually set all the cabins, and then do it over and over as people leave cabins and want to be in different ones.

In the Bible quizzing program that I'm in, they do something sort of like this to sort out where people can stay for the meets, and it actually is done by real people. It takes hours upon hours to figure out the web of who wants to be with who for only 400 people and changes are pretty much not allowed. See why Camp NaNo needs a computer program to do it?

I went and edited my cabin settings thing to include Jaynin in my list of 'people you want in your cabin' or whatever.

Y'all! Everyone will be assigned in 1 day! And we need one more to complete a cabin of HWers.

When I put in all the usernames and hit submit a bunch of errors came up saying that they didn't any active and verified campers under those names.
