Welcome to week five! :D Sorry for the lateness. I totally forgot about this last night.

Your quest is to write a poem of any kind (rhymed, free verse, blank verse, etc.). The only requirement is that it has to be humourous.

The Rules wrote:
1. All challenges must be declared completed by midnight Saturday in your timezone (please specify your timezone when you sign up).
2. Personal challenges must be declared by midnight Monday in your timezone.
3. Personal challenges cannot be repeated.
4. The organizer reserves the right to veto any challenges that seem too simple. (i.e. writing a sentence)

Also, I would like to remind everyone that any weekly challenge pieces that are posted on the forum will be eligible to be featured in our newsletter once it gets off its feet. Please post a link in this thread if you would like it to be considered.

If you could write your sign-up post in a similar format to the following, it would be appreciated:
Goal: weekly challenge (or whatever you decide to do)
Timezone: PDT

On your mark! Get set! Go!!! *fires pistol*

A humorous poem? I shall have to think about this. Humour is something I am not good at. Anyway, here's my personal goal, and before Monday I might declare to be in on the weekly challenge too.

Personal Goal: 300 words on History of Amerouk
Timezone: MDT

Okay, I am to try this humorous poem thing. Sign me up for that! (I'm not sure it will be good or not, so don't expect anything posted on the forums!)

I think I'll stay out of this week's challenge. :)

What's the minimum length of a poem? Also how would you define free-verse, how would that differ from sort of a story?

Post subject:  Re: Holy World's Weekly Challenge - Week Five

This is free verse, as is this. Just as an example. :D

Post subject:  Re: Holy World's Weekly Challenge - Week Five

Okay, thanks Elanor. :)

So then I take it free verse is like a stream of thoughts that flow together?

Post subject:  Re: Holy World's Weekly Challenge - Week Five

We've got a garage sale this week, so I'm not sure how much writing I'll get done. Hence, I'm setting a slightly lighter goal for myself... but I will work past it if I can. :) So...

Goal: personal challenge - finish Nathan's post-war sequence (two scenes)
Timezone: CST

Author:  Elly [ April 30th, 2012, 11:59 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Holy World's Weekly Challenge - Week Five

Goal: 200 words on unnamed SF novel
Timezone: EDT

Post subject:  Re: Holy World's Weekly Challenge - Week Five

Weekly goal.
Personal goal: write 500 word shortstory

I'll maybe add the weekly challenge later, once I'm more comfortable with it. :P

Post subject:  Re: Holy World's Weekly Challenge - Week Five

Depending on the minimum, I would like to add the weekly challenge. Since I am doing a scavenger/treasure hunt theme with my book, I can combine the two a bit :D.

Post subject:  Re: Holy World's Weekly Challenge - Week Five

There is no minimum. :) The only restriction is humour.

Post subject:  Re: Holy World's Weekly Challenge - Week Five

I finished the poem. But don't expect the posting of it, because it will need a lot of editing first. o.O It was inspired by Philie and cupcakes.

There thrived a forum fantastical
With members shockingly atypical,
In the chat room
Each was a loon,
But on threads became intellectual.

I think I murdered the proud line of Limerick
For my poem would've made Lear sick,
It wasn't funny,
Not even punny,
And fell flat on its face for originality.

 I love the poems, Kathrine !

I'm hoping to get back into this soon. And for the record, the last time I participated and failed... I completely forgot I was going to be out of town the entire week. Which is why, from now on, before setting a goal, I'm going to study my calender more carefully.

Eh...maybe this is a poem:

People think he’s funny,
he dances and jumps, looking quite sunny
he takes their money, in ticks and quicks
never stopping he picks
he’s my monkey, poking pickets,
he’s my monkey, picking pockets

Anyway, I think it's funny. ^_^

Okay, Rose helped me rework the poem a bit, and just now I finished the story as well, so I think I've finished both of my goals. :D
