Post subject:  This year, I want to...

There's lots of talk about New Year's resolutions... Since we're a writing forum, I wanted to ask everyone - what are your long-term writing goals for 2012? Take a step back and look at the big picture. What kind of territory do you want to cover in 2012?

There are other threads in this subforum for discussing short-term goals. This thread is for discussing your overarcing goals for 2012. Do you want to publish a book? Finish a certain project? Write a certain number of poems? Spend a certain amount of time writing daily? Far-fetched or concrete, dreamy or practical - what do you want to do this year with your writing?

I'd like to self-publish several books. Right now the number I'm quoting is 3-4. I've got four in progress and have a rough plan to make it happen, but only time will tell if God wants me to publish that number. One of my other goals this year is to find a better balance between productivity and rest, so we'll see if 3-4 books is attainable while keeping my sanity. ;) For the moment, though, I'm working with that goal in mind.

Now what about you?

I plan on getting my first book in a publishing contract this year, and I pray (Lord willing) that I will get the first draft of my third book in the trilogy finished by the end of the year.

I tend to procrastinate a lot, I need to really work hard on my book this year. I would like to have it ready to be published, I know I can do it if I work hard enough at it. :) So yes, even if it's all finished, edited and sent out to proof readers, I'll be happy.

I just want to keep working on my story's first draft this year. I know I can't write every day, and I don't expect to write much each time, but I want to keep a steady little trickle of words going. :)

I want to have Firmament published before, and I'd also like to have Never published. I'd also like to submit some shorts to a magazine of some kind. :)

I'm very much enjoying reading everyone's goals. :D Keep chiming in! Setting a rough yearly goal, however dreamy, is the first step to working towards it and getting it accomplished.

I'd really like to finish 'Last of the Shifters' this year. I've been working on it since I was 10 (it's changed a lot since then ;) ), and I'd love to see it completed. :D

*Humongous sigh* I want to do that same. But recently limited computer time looks like it's going to hinder that. I'll be back with more specific, reasonable goals soon.

If that was off-topic... Well.... Sorry. :P

My goal is to do NaNo all year long. And eventually get my lifetime word count to 1,000,000 words.

I'm really serious about this goal. Why? 'Cause I can, I've got the time and the resources and the stamina, so the only excuse I will have would most likely be procrastination. ;) So I will be posting updates. I'll probably start a Make-RedWing-Write-Or-Else thread, so people can kick me if I haven't reached my daily word count. :P *works better when there are people holding her accountable*

I wanted to try to either re-write a story I've previously planned, or finish the first draft of one I've only started, but now I don't think I'll have the time.
My writing goal is fairly small, at the moment: I want to see about trying to start keeping a journal again and actually stick with it, and I'd like to do at least one blog post per week or two.

I shall hold you accountable. :D *Pokes* I shall make you write! *poke poke* And you can do it, so I shall poke you! *Pokepokepoke* Feel sufficiently poked? Good. :D Go write. ;)

My goals: Finish the first draft and hopefully more of True Freedom. Also, write Wind At My Back, which is a brand-new novel I'm planning. Try to double or triple my minimal lifetime word count. (Which is very small, only about 100k, me thinks) And probably write more stories that have yet to make themselves known to me.

I want to complete my parody of classic space opera and hardboiled detective stories by the end of the year. I'm also going to really work on developing Secret Project 001.

I absolutely love all these goals. :D If y'all need more intermediate accountability, try the Novel Goals thread in this subforum. That's where were hack away at the smaller, shorter-term novel goals. Now that you have a yearly dream, the next step is to break it down into intermediate goals to work towards. Let's get after it, my friends! :D

Between me and my cowriter, I want to have a decent draft of our story done. The whole thing -we've only made it to the end once before. We keep restarting.

My goal is to complete a novel through the OYAN curriculum. I'm restarting it this month, so if I work consistently at it I should have it finished by the end of summer. I also want to write more, and more often. To stop procrastinating and making excuses and just pound out words every day. I need to give myself a chance to become even a little bit skilled at fiction writing before I decide whether or not I want to keep putting time into it.

My goals:
- 5 Short stories (would like to write 10 this year, but I'll keep the goal a little more realistic).
- 50 poems (would be content with 20 or 30ish, but would still love to get 50 written)
- 24 Scholar's Hall threads/posts for HWers
- 12 blog posts
- Start 1 novel
