Who's doing Script Frenzy day after tomorrow?

I am! Not with fantasy, though - maybe next year - I have a scifi speculative fiction for this year.

Anyone else?

LOL

I believe it's for anything that isn't a novel. :) But it's primarily for screenplays (scripts for movies).

The goal is to write 90 pages in 1 month. (I've done 3 so far...) It's connected to NaNoWriMo (the novel-writing thing in November - I believe that's 50K words in a month, but haven't done it)

You 'win' by reaching the goal. :) It's a personal challenge only, though if you sign up for an account on there, you get a avatar for use on forums that says "Script Frenzy Winner 2010" or something like that.

Here's the website:
www.scriptfrenzy.org

Hope that helps!

Thanks!

Now I did some research on the site myself...One last Q how do you lay out the script? Is it double spaced or nay?

Double spaced??? I'm not sure what you're talking about!

To ensure you have the correct formatting, use Celtx or some other screenwriting program for writing. Celtx is free, downloadable, and AFAIK works on macs as well as a Linux-based OS (I've used it on Moblin, Ubuntu, and Ubuntu Netbook Remix) and Windows (I've used it on XP, Vista, and 7). Really makes writing simpler! :)

I can post a sample of proper formatting if you need me to. (Celtx generates PDFs and I can try to attach one)

 I can't believe I found someone else on this forum who is doing Script Frenzy this year! Hoorah!

I am working on my Sci-Fi/Fantasy screenplay that I've talked a bit about here on the forums. I like writings scripts better than novels.

Oh, and I thought it was 100 pages in a month, not 90. I could be wrong :D

I don't remember - I ought to check - but anyway, I hear that 110 pages is the prime range for a script so that's what I'm shooting for. :) I know I can; I've written a 90-some page screenplay in 2 weeks before. (it was pretty stressful..........)

How many pages do you have done? I have 3...I know, it's already the 5th, but four of those days I was really busy with the Reenactment. :) so 3 is pretty good. :)

I have 22 so far. I've been lucky enough to stay ahead of the schedule. I may post an excerpt here soon.

Edit: My username for Script Frenzy is the same one I have for this forum: Prof. Funderwall.

I was thinking of posting my first page but it's strict sci-fi speculative, not fantasy at all, so I figured that it wouldn't be in line unless I found an off-topic section... :) Would love to read yours! :)

I don't have a SF forum ID. :)

Sure! :)

But there's (still) only three pages of mine. :) Busy day - no work done yet and I guess I might not get much done. :)

I just have to figure out how to start a PM & do attachments... :)

I believe ye have answered my question about the spacing as I have checked out Celtx and seen what there is to see.

Good luck!

Actually, the goal is to write 100 pages, I thought. :D

Anyway, I did the YWP last year with a goal of 20 and won with 23 pages.

Let's wake this thread back up for Script Frenzy 2011! Who here is participating, and what kind of script will you be writing? Mine is a near-future thriller about an elite government agent who brings high-profile criminals to justice. His faith in the nobleness of his work is challenged, however, when one of his quarries insists that he is innocent - and offers chilling evidence to back up his claims. It's called "Apprehension", and I'm really excited to write it. So how about all of you? What are you going to write when April comes?

Probably not going to do it this year; I have too much going on in my life currently plus other writing projects which take precedence.

I might do it this year with a 30 page comic book script about S.H.O.T. and VIRAL. It would be my first time.

It's like NaNoWriMo, except for screenplays. :) 90 pages, 30 days, in April.

It's perfectly doable; I've written a 90 page screenplay in 2 weeks before... I just have other writing projects that take precedence.

Post subject:  Re: Script Frenzy!

I'm probably going to pretend to do it, like I did last year.

Hm... maybe I'll do last year's story! It involved talking swords.

I just like Nanowrimo too much to not at least try to participate in another of their events. So I'll poke around and try to come up with something. I wrote well over a hundred pages last year but it was on three different scripts so it didn't count.

Post subject:  Re: Script Frenzy!

I'm doing it. Maybe a goal of 30 pages. I'm trying to re-do my Nano novel into a screenplay. It'll be interesting to see if it comes out as I imagine it. :D

Post subject:  Re: Script Frenzy!

I didn't do it last year because I didn't have a developed idea, but this year I hope to do it. Most likely, I'll either do Child, a New Mexican drama about a nameless teen in search of his abandoning father, or Luke's Closet, a (maybe?) romantic drama about a young widow determined to salvage her late husband's business. Can't wait to see what others do!

Post subject:  Re: Script Frenzy!

I'm 98% sure I'm doing Script Frenzy next month. It's a tossup between crunching down and outlining my sci-fi novel and developing it into a screenplay for a first draft, or doing a screenplay based on a game Elisanna, two friends and I play together. But there's a looming chance that I might end up not doing it, due to a research paper and two weekends of scheduled stuff. :P

I'm doing Screnzy as a convenient way to get a complete outline of my story. In the form of a graphic novel. We'll see if it works out. :P

I've decided to do CHILD, and my goal will be to finish the first draft (which is already in progress), even if that doesn't total to 100 pages. I have a beat sheet filled and am working on a few other bits of development.

What's a beat sheet?

Author:  Rachel Newhouse [ March 24th, 2011, 10:34 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Script Frenzy!

Beat sheets are forms that you fill out with your plot to pace it. It divides the script into "beats," and you "fill in the blanks" with your plot. Things like "Break into Act 2" and "The Inciting Incidents" are things you might see on a beat sheet. The beat sheet I'm using is based on timing structure, which is a study learned by putting a stopwatch to existing films.

How are ya'll doing with your scripts?

So far I have written five pages. I decided to do a modified version of script frenzy and my goal is fifty pages of script. I'm writing scenes from my sci-fi story, which I will later rewrite into novel format.

I started a script by hand, but the format killed me. So I have maybe one panel for the comic book.

Post subject:  Re: Script Frenzy!

I have about thirty pages for a comic book. The panels are sorely lacking in detail, though, which is probably why I've been able to write them so fast...there's little description.

By way of encouragement - you might not need a lot of detail. Depending on your agreement with the artist, the artist might want to have freedom with some of the details. Sometimes they don't even want the writer to divide the story into panels! And if you're drawing, you don't necessarily need a lot of detail, either, since you know what you intended. It all depends on what you need for the project at hand.

I'm doing great! I'm also doing a modified Frenzy, and my goal is to finish one of my feature scripts-in-progress, regardless of how many pages that is. I've been working steadily on Child all week, and I now have 40 pages left to write, all from the middle. I have a slightly crazy idea to finish all 40 on or before Sunday... we'll see how it goes.

Thanks, Varon! And... I did! Way ahead of schedule. My over-achiever goal was Sunday... but I'm done today! Done, completely done! From start to finish, DONE!

It's my first complete feature, so I'm extra-excited. *grin*

It will need a lot of revising... but I'll let it sit a bit first.
