It's that time again! Time for us all to lose our minds (if we have any left to lose) and crank out a 50k-word novel in a month! NaNoWriMo! (Aka, National Novel Writing Month) November is less than three weeks away! Who is doing it this year? What are your plans? |

| Post subject: | Re: NaNoWriMo 2011! |
Last year was my first time doing NaNo, and it was a great exercise for me. It showed me how much I am truly capable of writing if I focus! I took that knowledge and used it to push myself through several other deadlines, one of which was self-publishing a novel. Unfortunately, because I was focusing on those other goals, I don't have a novel ready for NaNo! Faded (fantasy novel) won’t be ready, and that’s technically a rewrite anyway. Cogs (steampunk Beauty and the Beast remake) is ready, and Red Rain’s sequel (you didn't hear me say that) might be, but both of those are likely to be shorter than 50k. So I’m thinking about doing Cogs and, as a side goal, get 50k of Peter’s Angel (my fantasy epic) in working order. That won’t count for the “real” NaNo because it will be a lot of line-editing, pasting scenes together, writing ends and beginnings to half-finished scenes, and that kind of thing. But it needs done. I do believe God wants me to write this book… eventually! I poked my main file of random drafts (there’s more than one…) for Peter's Angel last night and found two scenes I could connect together, so that encouraged me to believe I can do 50k in a month without stress. (It’s an emotionally difficult project for me… long story. In more ways than one.) So I haven't decided for sure yet, but it's an idea. Quote: A protest broke out from the back of the room. “Silence,” Peter said, and was obeyed. “My father earned your loyalty. I have wasted it.”
“It is not true! You have all our devotion,” the East Earl cried. Several men yelled aye’s. Peter glared in their direction. “I said silence!” The room hushed. “I have risen to this position on because of emergency death only. In act and character I have not earned it.” He crossed his arms behind his back and took up pacing. “I have abused my power as prince and broken your trust. This war is entirely – entirely! – of my doing. I took upon myself to restore Nathaniel, and in so doing have brought blood upon us.” “It was a noble undertaking,” the South Earl whispered. “Ignobly carried out,” Peter returned. “But it is only one of many ills. Even if it were in my power to surrender the prince, I have brought more guilt upon my head than Edric will easily dismiss.” He stopped and gazed bitterly into the floor. “You ask why he lays charges against me. What proof does he need? I have earned the title traitor.” |

Normal YA length. But anything you write will be splendid, I'm sure. I'm doing a Western again. It doesn't have a title as of yet, but I've been doing some brainstorming. Should be fun. |

*cringes* Yeah. Sequel. To Red Rain. I have a plot synopsis... With Cogs, we agreed to just let it write itself, but my writer brain is still unsure about length. Especially if I write in a tight style, it might end up around 50k or a little shy. I really can't say. I'm not worried about it - we'll just write it and see - but there is that risk that if I write it for NaNo it might not be 50k. *waits for more details on Grace's NaNo* |

It doesn't matter how much you already have written -- as long as you write at least 50k words during November, you're good. So if you do finish Cogs before 50k, you could start something else, even write a few shorts. Eh, I'm pretty reticent to share details about stories beforehand. I don't know if I'll be able to bring myself to say much about my NaNo novel -- we'll see. I'll at least share excerpts somewhere. |

Hey! How come you're asking to see my synopsis but you won't share any details about your story? How's that fair? But if you ask nicely I'll send you the synopsis anyway. Okay. If I don't start drafting Cogs extensively before November, I'll probably do that, then... |

According to NaNoWriMo rules, for the story to count towards the proof copy and stuff, you can not have written any of the story outside of NaNoWriMo. You can plot, summarize, fractal, brainstorm, outline, to your heart's content. You just can't write any of it. Other than that, you can do whatever. I'm doing an urban superhero fantasy martial arts story which can be found over on HWSF in Story Development. I'll try to say more, but it's 3:30 AM at the moment. *toddles off for a second midnight snack, except it would be midmorning snack* |

Ah, Del conned me into making a summary. Genre: Young Adult/Adventure/Fantasy Crissa: The Rebel [title tentative] is set in the country of Estanor in the fictional world of Zoriah. This country is controlled by a rigid government which clearly dictates everything, even going as far to have laws about what the dwarves are allowed to wear in daily life. Fourteen year old Crissa feels held back with all of these laws. A close yet brief friendship with Vadley follows, until their friendship is shattered when the girl realizes who Vadley really is. . . the villain. Suddenly her world is upside down and Crissa doesn't know who to trust. That's when Ophelia, a serious fifteen year old elf, comes into the scene. When Crissa finds what really matters, is it too late to save the people she loves? And will she defeat the villain who seems undefeatable? Find out in Crissa: The Rebel! |

I was going to write my first Zoriah novel during Camp NaNoWriMo, but I decided to wait for the official NaNo. Vadley wants to hypnotize the leaders of Estanor (and later, Zoriah) and make them do what he wants them to do. Now, if I can just stick to my outline this time. |

They complete revamped the site this year. I'm not sure what all they've done but nothing is where it belongs.... buddying is one feature that hasn't been implemented under the new design yet. And the search bar seems to be missing. And the signature feature is missing, although personally I think that's a good thing. But it should be back by November 1 at which point we can all start buddying each other like crazy. |

I did Nanowrimo for the first time last year, and fell in love with the concept. It helped me complete my first novel, and gave me the kick I needed to dive back into writing with a vengeance. This year, I am writing another story set in the same fantasy world, but happening at the same time as last years, so it will have some fun connections without being a strict sequel. (I've been working on that separately.) Anyways, after three different plot ideas in two weeks, I think I've finally found my story arc. Super excited! |

I'm going to be a NaNo Rebel this year. I'm doing OYAN, so I can't handle drafting another novel. What I can do, though, is write 50k words of character development, plot sketches, and practice scenes (scenes that aren't in the book but help me get a better idea of the tone of the narrative and my character's personalities.) So that's my project for NaNo. |
