Due to the success and popularity of my Elemental Unicorn Series, I have decided to launch a contest. That’s right, Airi is launching a contest.

The idea was actually implanted into my head on HWSF by Aussie and Philli. They both mentioned wanting to color in the elementals like a coloring book. Then Philli made a contest reference, and I latched on. It sounded fun, half the work was already completed, and I would absolutely adore seeing your renditions of the series I am so very fond of.

So, here is how things are going to work:

There will be four categories in which you can enter. Earth, Sky, Fire, and Water. A winner will be chosen from each of these categories and their pieces featured on the blog. From these 4 winners I will choose one ultimate winner. The piece chosen as the ultimate winner will be the piece that speaks to my heart the most, and best embodies the spirit of the element. This ultimate winner will be given the choice between any of my original drawings in the Holy World’s Art gallery.

Rules:

The element’s name must be incorporated into the picture in some way. There are not limitations to how you portray this, but the word must be incorporated somehow. (see original drawings for examples)

You may use any form of drawing materials (paint, colored pencil, markers, so on)

There is no limitation on submissions. You are allowed to submit as many entries as you like for as many categories as you wish.



All entries will be judges on creativity, theme, and neatness. Don’t let the element put you in a box. Sky embodies so many things. For instance, in the Sky Element you could add a rainbow theme, stars, the moon. There are lots of ways you can portray the element without being limited to sky, water, flames, and leaves.

I will have 2 other judges join me in choosing the 4 category winners (pm me if you are interested in being a judge and not a participant). The ultimate winner will be chosen by me.

The coloring page version of each element will be made available on October 1st , the day the contest begins. All submissions must be submitted by October 15th, with the winners being announced on October 20th.

How to Enter: After printing out the available coloring pages and completing them with your own artistic rendition, you will then upload your pictures to the HW art gallery and embed the pictures into the appropriate thread. There will be 4 Submissions Threads (they will remain locked until October 1st), each titled by the name of the element they will be housing. Fire, Sky, Water, and Earth.

Please give credit to the original artist in the Art Gallery Description Box when uploading.

The answer to this question is probably pretty obvious, but sooner or later I'll have to ask it. Is the contest only open to HW members? I have a bunch of little siblings who adore coloring contests and are going to be all over me the minute they hear.

Of course, what I could do is just let them color and post their art without actually submitting it.

You probably posted a very clear, easily understandable post, but it's been proven my head isn't on straight today... and I didn't quite get it.

We're supposed to print out your four drawings and color them the way we wish, or are we supposed to use any elemental drawing and color it or draw our own and color it? It sounded like from the bit that runs "give credit to the original artist", that we're not restricted to your drawings, but "All entries will be judges on creativity, theme, and neatness." makes me think some could be our own drawings. *should probably not be entering a art contest while brain is not function due to a cold, but has never been known for great restraint when it comes to contests and not entering* XD

Hmmm.... I'm gonna say yes, they can. Only an HW member can be the ultimate winner, but HW siblings and such can win the category and be featured on the blog. I can do it under the pretense of promotional encouragement to join.

There will be 4 pieces available for coloring. They are the four drawings in my Elemental Unicorn Series. Philli has graciously inked the pictures for me so that they are all solid lines like a coloring book page.

The only requirement for the drawing is that you include the Element's name in the picture somehow. I have all sorts of ideas how, but I'm interested in how you guys would. You can reference my original pictures (in the art gallery) to see how I did it originally.

I do have one judging position left to be filled, but I would love to see you try, Azlyn! I wanted to do something that everyone could participate in. I mean, how many of us can't color? The lines are already there for you.

By incorporating their name you mean that the Water Unicorn shouldn't be painted orange and bright pink, right? Or do you mean their name should be on there as an actual name... in lettering?

I'll warn y'all, I have a track record of winning coloring contests. I won 100+ Hot Wheels cars once! Of course, I haven't entered a coloring contest since I was like 12... They just don't usually have these things for grown-ups! Hence, I am incurably excited about this.

*goes back to inking Water* I like this kind of drawing because it requires only patience, not talent.

* gets out coloring pencils * I have a track record too... I won a gigantic clown chair when I was I forget how old! Many moons ago. So excited to see what everyone comes up with!

@Katie: I mean the lettering of the names needs to be in the picture somehow. If someone wants to make the water Unicorn orange, they can make it look like an orange starfish. Totally fits with the essence of water. Let the creativity fly!!!!

Ah! So basically they need to be titled so that if you color the water unicorn like an orange starfish you know it's the water unicorn, and not the fire one.

I printed out test versions of the sheets, and they look great! But I 'spose I have to be good and wait 'til Oct.1st to start coloring...

I'd love to try this! I think I even have a few ideas...

I want to say yes to the digital coloring, but I have decided no.

My reason being because that alters the playing field. It is like comparing apples to oranges. I want to keep this coloring based, that way anyone can participate. Not everyone can photomanipulate or recolor things with the computer. So I'm gonna say no, although I would love to see what you guys would come up with.

I would really like to do this contest! But I'm afraid I do not know how to get to the art gallery.

I've one last question; for water, do we have to use the word water, or can we use the word sea instead if we want, since sea is the other common term for that element?
