Wow, every time I start these threads I can't believe another week is starting. I feel like I'm losing some folks as well, and I'm wondering if there is a better way to use this thread/goal idea so that more people are involved.

Post here you goals for this week and how last week went.

I again had to swap time editing my first book to finish editing my short story Crystal Vendetta, which is now ready for line edits if anyone wants to help. I also did a lot of work on podcasting and reading. I did an interview with Mike Duran, debut author of a great Christian Speculative Fiction book The Resurrection, for audiotim. And Jay and I interviewed Robert Treskillard for two episodes (2 and 3) for the Holy Worlds Podcast.

My goals this week are
1) Hit the ground running on my book editing course.
2) When I need a break I'll be reading other holy worlders fiction submitted for critique. (That will mean looking around the forums and the google docs folder, but if you have a short story you'd like critiqued let me know)

I wonder if the fact that I haven't done weekly goals for a couple of weeks is part of why I didn't really make much progress toward my monthly goals in those weeks?

Okay. Here we go.

I want to do at least one of the larger edits for my NaNo and sketch out a basic map so I can make sure I have directions and locations correct (or at least consistent).

I want to draw out the tectonic plates for Rhoive in hopes of being able to figure out the continents later on.

Finally, I want to write at least one "article" on some aspect of Rhoive.

I'm going to keep developing the galaxy, and write a Jack Wilder chapter.

Leandra,
Thanks for your honest humility, I started these because I spent most of a year just doodling around on stories and felt like I got little accomplished. I have taken it easy for the past month since finishing my book, but I've still been meeting goals, and so even in a time where I need to recoup I've been productive. I've just set smaller goals that blend challenging with doable.

What do you mean by do an edit on a NaNo? I've been editing a NaNo for over a year and still have a ways. If you make a specific plan to focus on in the edit it may be easier to keep yourself from feeling overwhelmed and in the end think you got nothing accomplished.

Will do.
I'm also going to write another blog post for my first blog.

Heh. My goal there wasn't very clear. In this case what I meant by "larger edit" was working on one of the sections I'm going to rewrite, not just make a few changes here and there like I've done in a few places already. I knew exactly what I meant, but somehow that didn't really end up in the post. So it should be pretty manageable, as long as I actually sit down and do it.

Leandra,
Sounds good. I've found editing usually takes longer than I anticipate. Maybe set a goal of periods of time to work on this as a way to motivate you to stay on task while you're doing it. Editing is not my favorite, and I can easily space out or check email/internet while I'm supposed to be editing if I don't tell myself "this is editing time".

Sounds like good advice to me. Thanks!

My main accomplishments last week were writing a short script for a manga and drafting a significant amount on a feature.

This week, I'd like to continue to work on the feature, as well as start recruiting people to our HWCS team. :D

You're on the Earth team right?

How many secret societies battling each other would you want for a comic space-opera?

Recruit people for the Writing HWCS team

Write 2k on my story (Is that going to happen? Probably not.)

Check out a writing program called Write or Die and it just might, Elly. I can average 900 words in 30 minutes, so that's a little over an hour of work to hit 2k. Give yourself a break between two 45 minute sessions and you can have it done in 2 hours. I like to assess what I just wrote and see if it is the direction I want it going (if not I make a note to fix it later and get going on where I want my story to be). I'm in the camp of write first edit once it's done.

I am!

Are you speaking of a particular story, or just in general? Comic space opera... * thinks * 3, perhaps? That way each group is fighting against two others, that can get in the way and be confused with one another and generally make a lot of comic mess. :D But it wouldn't be too much to keep track of.

I'd prefer to be an "unofficial" member for the Earth team.

It's The Dying Words of Dick Elden, Galactic Gumshoe. Three's good, because I do have three. I also thought of the perfect beginning for it.

A little competition might motivate more people to participate.
