This is officially the latest announcement ever. But hey, I was sick.

Over on my blog (see siggy), I've officially declared February to be Fix Your Novel that Doesn't Have a Chance Month. Your task is simple: grab that messy novel that is more or less "completed" and fix it. This works extremely well for old NaNo novels.

It may have chunks missing, it may have characters that need to be merged, it may have subplots running loose and wrecking havoc, it may have characters flatter than the latest laptop. It may just not have a plot. I propose six simple steps to fix this novel during the month of February:

1. Glaze over the manuscript. Don’t read it all the way through – you don’t want to get discouraged – but familiarize yourself with the plot (or lack thereof) and subplots and characters and twists and setting.

2. Write a logline. Write a short synopsis. Write an outline, complete with subplots. Write character sheets. These will be invaluable.

3. Fill in any gaps in your novel and add any passages your new outline demands. Or combine characters. Or something else your novel needs. For example, mine desperately needs more technology.

4. Cut any now-useless huge chunks from your novel.

5. Cut out any references to those now-deleted scenes, characters, etc.

6. Begin your normal editing process.

Every Sunday I am posting something tailored for FYMNDHCM'ers to help them on their quest. If all goes well, I will declare March to be Edit Your Not-So-Messy Novel that Has a Chance Month in conjunction with NaNoEdMo.

Who dares join my wild escapade?
