I have a problem. I'm trying to work out the basic logistics for Shattering the Dark. My problem? Ages.

See, I have two main characters, several important minor characters, and a historical event to calibrate into something that makes sense. And I'm stumped. :P

So, if any of you can help me knock the data in to some kind of sense or figure out if it doesn't work, that would be fantasmical. :D

-Preferably, Shawn and Jay would be 2 years apart
-Shawn has one older brother (Kurt) who needs to be a reasonably age distance from her, which he is not at this time
-Jay has an older brother (Josh) the same age as Kurt
-Jaimie is between Josh and Jay
-The U.S. involvement in the Vietnam war was between 1961-1970 (correct me if I'm wrong)
-Kurt and Josh are KIA while Jay and Shawn are in their early teens/pre-teens

Thanks! :D

Ouch. An algebra problem. I'll get back to this.

This reminds me of one of those problems where you have a few facts and a chart to fill!

Jay, 11
Shawn, 13
(or 12 and 14 if you want, and the two can be reversed)
Jaimie, 16
Josh/Kurt, 18+
(18 was the minimal age for drafting during the Vietnam war. Interesting story, but that led to the voting age being lowered to where it is now. . . anywho, they can be any age so long as they are 18 or older.)

Anything I missing/something you didn't tell us? I'll try to tweak my chart.

Uh, algebra. :P I thought of those too. I just don't have enough available braincells to figure it out right now. ;)

That looks great! My only question is if it seems plausible to have Shawn and Kurt 6 years apart... :?

12 and 14 for Shawn and Jay (respectively) sounds good. I may even push it up to 13/15... That would put Shawn and Kurt 5 years apart.

Thank you so much!

Er. . . Shawn is five years younger than Kurt now. Say what? Or are you switching Shawn and Jay? Or were you talking about Jay and Josh?

I mean. . . you're welcome! :D Glad I helped.

There's nothing wrong with that. Griffin is 6 years older than my little sister. :)

Right but there's no one in between them. I may have to make Shawn and Jay one year apart...

It's perfectly reasonable to have gaps of up to 10-12 years between siblings. We have several instances of that in my family. (If that's what you're asking?)

Agreed. I'm three 1/2 years older than Travis, 6 years older than Jacod, 16 years older than Elianna, and 18 years older than Samuel.

My dad got married and his twin brothers were the ringbearers - they were only five. They're actually closer to me in age than my dad  =)

Then 5/6 years it is! :D Thanks, all of you. Now I don't have these logistics bugging me...
