Post subject:  The Ultimate LIE.

Okay, so I put this topic here because I think it goes along with "essence".

So... In my story Tyra's Stone,in the very beginning, long before Tyra is born, there was a great war that had engulfed the land. There was a man who had one son, he know his son would die in the war but he wanted to do everything he could to change the boy's fate.
Now, the man knew of a Sorcerer (the Villain), who it was said had great power. So one dark day the man took his son to the sorcerer and begged a boon; the life of his son.
The sorcerer agreed and gave the man a palm sized stone.

This is where I need help. When the sorcerer gives the father the stone he tells him it will protect his son, but he also tells him something else that's like "a catch", which is a lie. The father believes it, and the lie is so strong that it binds his family to it-(or the sorcerer) for generations.
The stone you could say "is" the lie, or represents it. The stone has now power, but because of the lie does in a senes. Understand?

Here is some of my brain storming.
-The man's family will die if the stone is not passed down.
-If he keeps the stone and passes it on to his son, then his son with have a son and so on and so on, thus the family survives, (but then, generations later, along comes Tyra, a girl.)

Other than that, I can't seem to wrap my finger around exactly what the lie should be. Any ideas from you guys?

P.S. On a side note; the theme/themes of the story are "The binding power of a Lie", and "The saving power of Ultimate Love."

I moved it here, since it fits better.

I like the idea! It needs some polishing and development (which is why we are here), but it has amazing promise. I have something very similar in my stories (enter Kimensul again). I will think about it and let you know what I come up with. :)

I agree with Sir Emeth that it's a very good idea!
Could the lie have something to do with payment to the sorcerer? That would only work if the sorcerer lived for a LONG time, though. Or if the sorcerer had a son. He could have told the man that each descendant would have to do something, or the family would die.
That's just the first thing that popped into my head; it might not work at all, but I figured it was worth a try! :)

Umm, that gave me an idea. What if the "payment" had to do with giving the sorcerer immortality? That could also be his weakness......

Okay, what do you all think of this.

The Sorcerer (Villain) is obsessed with obtaining immortality. In order for him to get it he needs a willing victim to sacrifice/enslave/use. (Villain) promised to help a poor man who wished to preserve his family’s line, but the conditions and promises (Villain) gave the man where nothing but lies for in his heart he schemed to use the man’s family for his own uses. The man, believing the sorcerer returned home with a token of (Villain’s) promises, a palm sized stone mounted in a dragon clawed pendant.
Now, six generations latter, Tyra, the last of the poor man’s line is questioning the sorcerer’s involvement in her family’s lives and is keeping herself hidden, away from his evil hand. Using the stone, the sorcerer is intent on finding Tyra and securing her life for his own.

(I'll post the Symbolism later.)
