Go, go, Bushy! You can do it! :D

I got about 2,000 words done thanks to you, Elanor lovely. :D I was going to throw in the towel for the day until I saw your encouraging post; I kept it up in one window and wrote in the other. :D

I'm so behind, it's not even funny. And I'm not even doing the full 50 000. I don't have enough time in my computer schedule to do that.

I like my main character finally! * dances in glee *

Sorry, I had to vent somewhere.... I have been keeping up with my goals (actually, I have been exceeding them * is quite pleased *), but writing nearly 20000 words almost exclusively about someone you don't even like is very annoying. :P

:D It's awful when you're writing about someone you don't like. You can't get very enthusiastic, can you! I am glad you like him now. :) Well done with keeping up with your goals!

Keep going, Aldara! Calculate how much you have to write in the remaining days to meet your goal, and focus on that daily number, not the whole thing of catching up.

I finally figured out how to get my characters to actually 'meet' each other--via a fire on the fifth which wasn't originally part of the story, but now is a major plot-changing effect. That was really super cool.

The cooler thing is that I already have over 18k! :D

And, er, role-plays distracting me...

I've read two books in the past week though, which is a huge increase from maybe 10 pages in a week.

The past couple years that I did NaNo I would sit around for hours every day, procrastinate, stare at the screen, type out a little, sit and think for a little, let my mind wander, write a little, think a little more, procrastinate a little...

Then this year, since I've started publishing and thinking about how I want writing to fit into my future, it occurred to me that this was nonsense. This would never work in the real world, I wasn't going to be able to lounge around all day and procrastinate for weeks and then catch up in a mad, exhausting writing session at the last minute. When I'm married with kids (Lord willing!) I want to keep writing and publishing seriously, and how will I manage that if it takes me all my time to piddle through a wordcount each day?

So this year, I purposed to change things. First, I'm not letting NaNo take over my life. I decided it was not going to take more than two hours a day at the very most. I was going to focus, get a decent wordcount each day, and move on to other responsibilities. Get some practice for my future, learn to integrate serious writing into real life.

The past several days I've exceeded my desired wordcount (2000 words) in under an hour. I focus, get the words out, then go do other things, and I manage to get all the words I need. It's been awesome. And so much more useful and less stressful than before.

And it's giving me hope that I just might be able to keep doing this as long as I want. It just takes hard work, determination, and discipline.

Don't know why I'm rambling about that... but it's been great. Guess I just wanted to share that with y'all. :)

I think that's helpful, Grace. All of us are going to have to fit writing in alongside other things like work, family, etc. (we have family even now, unmarried or married) if we want to keep doing it we have to get it to bow to the other things not vice versa. ;) So thank you for posting that.

Great thoughts, Grace. :D If one is going to do NaNo, I would say that is the way to do it. Thanks for sharing!

I've handwritten around 8000 words so far. :D

My little sister (who's not so little anymore!) has written 10,000 words by hand! I'm in awe of her. She's 13.

Grace, your post was really encouraging to me! I haven't nearly met my desired word-count yet,(I think I'm at around 6000 handwritten words. ) but the way you described writing this month is exactly what I was wanting to do. It's encouraging to see someone else succeeding at it. Maybe next year, when I'm not in the middle of publishing a book I can try again to actually make 50,000 words. (I highly doubt I'll make it this year.) Anyway, thanks for posting. :)

Oh, I'm so glad that it encouraged you, Rebekah! :) It's gone fairly well, I'm not caught up, but I'm only about 1500 words behind, I think, so it shouldn't be too hard. :)

The crazy thing is, I'm in the middle of publishing a book, too. And I manage to keep up with friends and family and a little housework, too. Only explanation I know of is God's help--I never could have gotten all this done on my own. o.O

I'm still way ahead of my word count goals, but it feels like I've written next to nothing! Despite the fact that I finished one novella, and got 25% into another, and then started over again from scratch it still feels.... too easy. o.O

And I sort of panic, because I'll go days without writing. But then the next day I'll put in 3K within a few hours and be like "I'm still several days ahead?" I guess I shouldn't complain about my good fortune.

Past the half-way point! Word-count wise (barely). My story is far too slow, however. And my characters are more concerned with petty arguments and being annoyed by each other than actually doing what needs to be done.

XD
