*looks for Del* You can have one of Del's cupcakes, Andrew, 'cause I don't think Del Philadelphia, now Aubrey Hansen would mind if her favorite Elly gave you a cupcake. :D

I now have 8,992 words. :D

Let's see. Here's one of the only scenes that's worthy of showing. It's the introduction.

Quote:
Crissa slipped out between two pieces of barbed wire. Her long dark blond hair got caught on a tiny, piercing barb and she tried to tug it loose. She glanced around and finally pulled off the small lock of hair. Straightening up from her crouched position, she looked down at her outfit, dark green slacks and a very fitted dark green long sleeved shirt made out of the same material as the slacks. She certainly felt queer, because she had never work slacks before. A guard came into Crissa's view. Run! she thought. That was her only thought... run. She couldn't get caught now!

That's nice, why are you telling me?

*laughs at Elly's post*

*likes Elly's excerpt*

I'd like to suggest that you can get away with some "telling" in 1st person as long as it sounds like the narrator's natural thoughts. 1st person is perhaps my favorite voice, though both of the novels I'm working on this month are in 3rd. I haven't analyzed it, but I know that in Red Rain there's some telling in the form of the narrator wondering, musing, and otherwise interpreting the surroundings. But it feels natural, and no one's complained about it. :)

Does the MC think of himself in 3rd person?

Nah. He just talks to this little mechanical bug part of the time to record how things are going =P

Mine is going much better then I thought it would. I didn't have much of a plan when I started, so I guessed that I would get stuck after the first couple scenes. There are a few inconsistencies because the setting is underdevelopped, but those can be edited.
Being really fast at writing short stories is very good for your NaNo... I can write at school. I'll probably have a full period for it tomorrow.
I even have a slightly depressing excerpt for you!
Quote:
That seemed to be a common phrase among us –God save us from this death around us, that surrounded us and brought it’s stench to every street and home. God save us from this tragedy that drained life from even the healthy among us. God save us from the hurt of loss, from the terror of an unstoppable curse, from the discord of lawless, hurting people. God save us from this death.

Thanks. :) Mine hasn't went too great today thus far, but I'll make up for that in a few hours...Hopefully, in and half and a half or so, I will be alone in my "Zone", and I will be able to write at least 2,000+ words...
God bless,

That's really good, Aldara! Everyone excerpts this year are brilliant, wait, maybe they are the rest of the year too and I just don't pay attention.

I'm getting tired of this particular part of my book... I must have decided to drag it out too long. I decided to skip over the roadblock and get to the exciting stuff, which involves two pages of technobabble and I realized I still haven't named the technology I'm describing. Also, the description isn't at all coherant... but who cares? I can make it make sense later, right?

Well, today hadn't been going too well in NaNoWriMoLand, but that got turned around, praise God. ^_^ My good buddy Matt and I did some Word Warring, which shot my word count up by quite a bit.

Current total count: 9,169.

Goal for tomorrow: Get it to 12,000 or so.

Woohoo!
God bless,

I'm up to 6000 words exactly -- I'm trying to do 2000 a day just 'cause. Hoping to avoid the "write the last 10,000 words on the last day" technique that I used last year. :D

I've been doing lots of word wars with Twin and Azlyn, and some others that have been very helpful!

Keep up the great work, everyone! :D

I hit 6.7k today :) I'm slogging along at the 1,667 mainly because story-wise I'm having trouble. I've got the time (Today I wrote 1,667 in thirty minutes :D), I just need to refine the story. I've actually been spending some time rewriting, which is a big no-no in NaNo I've heard :D

My NaNo this year is 1st person too, like many of you, but it's not quite official because it's been in the planning/sort-of-writing-down-a-few-scenes for a few months now. My goal is 1,500 words a day, with more on weekends. We'll have to see how it goes!

That's a nice title, Caeli.

I cleared 10k today, so I have tomorrow off. :D I went to my NaNo group's write-in today... 'twas fun... there's something motivational about being the only person in the room not actively typing. ;)

My goals for NaNo:

Write at least 1667 a day. Any extra is to be counted as bonus, not permission to slack off the next day. :)

Currently I'm at 11221. (Funny the way the numbers worked out there) And doing much better then I thought I would! :D

Awesome job, guys! :D

NaNo's been going very well for me, so far. :D I didn't get any writing done Friday, though.

That aside, I'm going to see if I can't hit 50k by the day after tomorrow. Which means I'll be writing about 9k tomorrow and 10k the next day. I think I can manage it, if I work hard.

My original goal was to break my record, but I'll be about two days late, I think. Ah well. I'm not writing over 20,000 words before 11:30 tonight. ;)

I've still got writer's block. I actually thought about this several times very hard last night and still came up empty handed. I'm scrapping the thunderstorm; I still need a new disaster. Preferably one that involves libraries...

I was just writing those chapters in 1st person.

This thing will need major editing, if I don't end up scrapping it completely.

Second Person POV: You see a door, thick and dark with odd-colored stains on it. You reach out for the handle, expecting a trap.

That's just a short example.

Ah, cool. I've heard that before, but I couldn't remember.

I've never tried writing in 2nd person... maybe I should do that one of these days.

Burn the library. All those books going up in flames is a big disaster. :'(

I was just writing those chapters in 1st person.

Word Count for the Day: Approximately 4,700 (and the day's not over!).

Total: 17,649 (I think that's right). ^_^

Woohoo! Praise God.
God bless,

I already did a fire, in my first one. :P

You know, at one of my local libraries they had an issue with someone doing something illegal on the internet via library computers. That's not a disaster, but it's a criminal, and if the criminal is caught he could get nasty...

Just some ideas.

On track so far. Need another 2k today. :D

I'm still really far behind, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to catch up. I guess I'll see how much time I have this weekend.

I'm at 4516, but for me that's about 20%. I'm just a little bit behind because I missed yesterday. At least I think I'll get my word goal out of it -for while I thought it would be way too short.

Keep it up, Aldara! You're doing great and you can make it.

I spent all day in another novel, so I had to force myself to work on my NaNo. I met my goal of 2k in an hour, almost to the minute! God is good. :D

I lacked word wars yesterday, and for some reason this particular novel doesn't want to motivate itself without them, so I was naughty and didn't write much. :P But I'm reforming! I have written about 1000 words this morning and want another 3000 today at least. :)

Everyone is doing awesome! :D

I'm at 17627. And I am very much stressing that 1. It's moving too fast. 2. I'll run out of plot. 3. I'll stop dead when I run out of outline. :P

Hmmm... What could go wrong... ;)
A thief who tries to rob the library (or a bookstore) of a rare manuscript?

Weather factors:
    Hurricanes ;)
    Floods
    Tornadoes
    Tropical cyclones
    Earthquakes
    Eruption
    Smoke from eruption
    Blizzard
    Hailstorm
    Drought/heat
    Tsunami
    Typhoon

Other ideas:
    Plane crash
    Train crash
    Huge car wreck
    Mine collapse
    Shipwreck
    Avalanche
    Oil spill
    Terrorism
    Bridge failure
    Dam failure
    Levee failure
Collapsing tower, hotel or other structure

If I think of any more I'll come back later, Jaynin. :D

I'm mildly concerned about this with my own story. I've determined that if I reach the end of my plot before 50k, I'll do something with the same characters. Like a short story, or a random scene that explores personalities, etc. :D

I'm going to word war with some friends this evening to meet my quota. I'm listening to the Tron: Legacy soundtrack - techno/electronica. I shall be unstoppable.

Sorry, but I had to shout it somewhere. :D

I'm feeling much better about my nano now, being almost halfway done. And I'm only on chapter 3! How did that work? Oh well.

The first two chapters are choppy scene-wise, but I can fix that later with editing. I am no where near using half my plot, so that's one less thing to worry about too. :D
Praise God that I feel much less worried now!
