Okay, I propose we take the teams as they currently exist and just start. If we keep waiting for all the new people who come along, we'll be waiting forever. If we just start they can watch for each other, and if they want to join in we'll just split them in half and throw them into the middle of the game on opposite teams. To sum up one last time:

Ali: [to Cassie] I live in an orphanage in a little mountain town called Larenrook. The author says I'm a minor character so I don't have a favorite color. But she says that if I did, it would be turquoise. *shrug* Anyway, the author won't tell us about our story, but she says it's full of tragedy, friendship, action, and unexpected plot twists.

Me: I think it's pretty cool. I just started writing it.

Kendri: Cool! When do we get to start playing? Can I throw a ball?

Tira: I wanna throw one, too!

Ali: Shh. We're not playing, just Mera and Kendri. Besides, it's past your bedtime. Come on. *drags Tira out*

Tamera: Sorry about Ali. She can be a bit rough... Tira wears her out.

Me: Four or five balls, at least.

Jek: [Watching Ruby and Tiger] Not at the present, Ruby. The teams would be uneven, then.

Cassandra: Oh... How old is Tira? She's cute.

Tynx: [Shakes head to clear vision] My move? Let's see... I got it! [Eyes glow black, and body begins to ripple and shift until he's a miniature version of Merashath] Whoa,that was weird.

Me: No idea what use it'll have, but it's fun, nevertheless, no?

Hakor: Exciting game, everyone.

Jek: Keep that up and you'll be playing, too.

Mordir: I'd stay quiet, Hakor. I got dragged into it because of talking.

Me: You insulted my spelling. That's why you're playing.

Mordir: But I'm on Ethan's team, so I'm good.

Cory: Of course you are.

Cassandra: You gotta win, OK, Chase?

Chase: Uh, sure.

Cassandra: Be happier, Chase! You can win. I know because you-

Me: Ahem.

Cassandra: -were really brave in the funhouse world! You dropped from that fast rising pedestal thing without hesitating!

Chase: Yes. But one, I didn't know they would drop out the bottom of it and slide you down to ground level. Two, Because I didn't know that, all I knew was that I was rising too fast to the ceiling without any intention of it stopping. And no, I wasn't brave.

Cassandra: Too bad the elephant couldn't fit down the slide.

Chase: What happened?

Cassandra: I think it got squished. Really bad.

Me: Oookaay, no more of that.

Cory, Jek, Tesmir, and Mordir: [Have slightly pale faces]

Me: Well, I have been silently watching, and now I thought I would say-

Me: *glares* Stop interrupting. And no, you aren't playing.

Me: Which is...

Dani: Andam. What do you think, Blank? Oh, secondly, I want to play with someone, since you haven't really developed my best friend, Kachel, beyond her name yet.

Aryn: Aren't there barriers? I'm confused...

Me: You decided to speak to me again?

Aryn: No. I'm talking to Dani.

Dani: What's a barrier?

Me: Ask them, not me.

Dani: Right... why not?

Aryn: I'll play, if Dani promises not to talk me to death...

Ali: Some kind of ball game. Should we play dodgeball? Or just throw the ball back and forth? We could play tagball, where if you get hit you're out and then someone on your team has to tag you. But we might need more players for that.

Deric: I just noticed. I'm the only boy in one of your posts for about three pages.

Me: Yeah, I don't write boys too well. I can bring in another boy from the orphanage if it makes you feel better.

Deric: I'm fine. But if we need more players, can you bring Orim?

Me: Sure.

Anton: (@Tesmir) You guys are creeping me out, too.

Ioanna: New people. MORE new people. Playing some sort of game by themselves. We need somebody to start OUR game!!

Anton: Relax.

Ioanna: I can't!

Tethantal: We're historians. We specialize in researching magical objects.
Me: I think you mean researching magical objects so that you can trace them to their current owner and obtain them for yourselves.
Tethantal: We do not get the objects for ourselves!

Dani: Oooh! Thanks, Evening! Ali, can we just throw the ball? Or can I be on Aryn's team?

Aryn: *shakes head* Little sisters... Hallo, Deric. It's good to meet another boy! I'm the only one in my story right now, except for a nasty overseer.

Dani: He's scary. Hurry up and have something happen to him, Authoress!

Me: Authoress? Where did that come from? And Raczr will probably show up several times, Dani. *shrugs* Sorry.

Dani: Ugh. He's plain cruel.

Aryn: No joke!

Karanzu: You can borrow my whip to use on him, Dani.

Me: Hey! Where did you come from??

Karanzu: Well, since you were writing a flashback with me in it, I decided to drop by.

Me: Scoot. I'm only going to have characters from one story at a time.

Karanzu: Humph.

Ethan: Humph.

Karanzu: You want me here?

Ethan: You bet! Another villain!

Me: Get going, Karanzu. And for the safety of anyone else roaming in my computer, you can leave your whip with Dani.

::Karanzu slinks off::

Dani: Bwah ha ha! Thanks, Karanzu! Who would have thunk I would have thanked a bad guy? *brandishes whip*

Aryn: It's thought. Hey, don't you point that thing at me! Get Raczr up here.

Dani: Ooh! *mischievous smile* Please, oh great and powerful authoress?

Me: Oh, your trying to sweet talk me. Uh, no, I'm not bringing him in right now.

Dani and Aryn: Aww...

Me: You may keep it, Dani, but don't go flaying anyone!

Dani: *pouts*

Aryn: Whew! Thanks!

Me: Don't hurt anyone, or she may get with that.

Me: I see you have found the smilies as well.

Aryn: Yep!

Ali: Me and Deric are on a team and you and Aryn are on the other team, Dani.

Me: Why don't you play badminton or tennis?

Ali: What's that?

Me: Tennis is a game where there are two people on each side of a net and they try to hit a little ball over the net with rackets.

Ali: Sounds fun. *spikes the ball gently to Dani* Let's toss this ball around for a bit first.

Ruby: *sits on the side and watches* Oh, and I agree with whoever said that authors are evil.

Me: Yeah? (Ruby says I'm a criminal genius)

Ruby: It WASN'T a compliment!

Me: So this is like volley ball?

Dani: Good! *jumps in air, and hits it to Aryn* Boy, is it pretty! Thanks, Evening!

Aryn: *throws it to Deric* This is pretty fun! All it needs is a bucket of water to dump on certain people holding whips...

*a bucket of water dumps on Dani's head*

Dani: *splutters* Hey! Authoress, why did you do that?

Me: Why does she call me "Authoress"? Just keep playing.

Okay, each team has four balls. Kendri has red ball, a green ball, a blue ball and a yellow ball. Ionna has an orange ball, a purple ball, a silver ball, and... and... and... *can't think of another color*. Ionna may come up with the color of the fourth ball. It must be one word. Each captain appoints which team member starts with the ball. When both captains call "ready" the game begins. The characters holding the ball must throw it at a character on the opposing team. That characters determines whether it is caught, misses, or hits. If it misses it's free game for any character to pick up on a first come, first serve basis. If it's caught that character must throw it at someone on the opposite team all in the same turn. If it hits that character is out. Kind of like the sword fighting, authors are trusted to determine when it's fair for their own characters to get hit. Duelers are fair game. All balls are padded, and do not cause injuries.

Newcomers! Everyone who wants to play will be brought into the game momentarily. Each author who is participating must list the characters who are participating. The captains can call an author whenever they like, and when it's even-ish the organizer (me) will throw them headfirst onto existing teams; into the game with some new balls.

Sound good? Kendri and Ionna, the balls are in your courts, literally. Hand them out, call ready, and let the game begin!!!

Elanhil: GOLD!!!!

Me: You don't get to decide.

Elanhil: I can make a suggestion.

Merashath: Hmm... very interesting. Screeech! [flies at Tynx feet first, scratching at his wings] Now I know your weak points!!

Me: What if he's just doing it to find out your weak points?

Merashath: ...

Cory: Alright, now we're getting somewhere!

Mordir: Aw, c'mon! We're like... the only two villains on this team!

Jek: But they have only one.

Mordir: Merashath's busy.

Tynx: [Rolls to the side, but one wing is wounded] Oh great, now I'll be all lop-sided. [Jumps at Merashath and attempts to copy his attack]

Me: BTW, even though Tynx can shapeshift, he does not gain the abilities of whatever he shifts into.

Tesmir: Why are we creepy? What'd we do? O.o

Cory: She's found a new smiley to use.

Me: It's so much fun! ^^

Chase: Cool, duelers are free game.

Tynx: Just keep in mind I'm on your team.

Cory: Doesn't matter. SHe said duelers. There were no specifications on which duelers.

Jek: [Smiles]

Cassandra: Raczr sounds really mean... and scary.

Me: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Honestly, you could at least pretend you like having her here.

Chase: I've tried. My dad saw through it. Now I'm stuck with trying to find six items all over creation and beyond to stop some weird group of people who want to get at my dad.

Me: I should give you what the items make, then you could duel.

Chase: If you do, I duel someone who can show me how to use it.

Hakor: [Half-asleep]

Tesmir: Sheesh, we're creepy AND we're boring. Let's bring Rune back in here, he'd be fun.

Me: No. I have enough characters now to handle.

Merashath: [Spreads wings widely, and allows Tynx to fly into them. He then closes his wings tight so that Tynx can't move.] By not having my powers do you mean magic and Cobha??

Elanhil: I stink at organizing.

Me: That's why I let JoY take over. I can't organize at all.

Elanhil: That doesn't mean I can't.

Me: Well, here it does.

Ioanna: Elanhil, you're not even on my team. Why are you trying to pick the color of my ball?

Anton: Gold is pretty...

Ioanna: Nope, sorry. I'm going to do a sea ball. EVERYONE ON MY TEAM GET OVER HERE!!

Me: Ali had a name before she had a personality.

Ioanna: Do I choose who the other charries throw at, or just who Anton throws at?

Anton: Hey! I wanna choose my own character to pelt!

Ioanna: I don't know if hitting captains is allowed or what happens when you do hit a captain. Can I have the rules explained a little bit more before I start?

Me: ::retracts Anton's ball::

Cory: [Lobs the silver ball to Mordir] Aim well, throw true.

Mordir: [Catches the ball in one hand] I shall.

Mordir: [Looks at me.] What is this about me in a story?

Me: Hey, it's good idea. I've never done a story that has the villain as a main character, and you're my favorite villain. Besides, your name has a cool meaning.

Mordir: Which one?

Cory: Beg pardon?

Me: What do you mean, which one? The one you have now! The other one was your childhood name.

Jek: He has two names?

Me: I haven't gotten anything written, so shush.

Mordir: But what does my name mean?

Me: Doom's shadow.

Mordir: You made that up, didn't you?

Me: Yup, but made up earlier today.

Cory: So, what's the other one?

Mordir: You don't need to know.

Me: His other one means 'hope flickers'.

Syleh: So how much damage am I allowed to cause to people with this?

Me: Just don't kill anyone.

Syleh: Of course not... I mean, why take an innocent life... My training hasn't made me completely cold...

Ali: I'm staying to watch.

Me: That's better. [to Ioanna] I think each author decides who their character will throw the ball at. And as far as I know, captains are out if they get hit, just like the other players. Headshots don't count, right?

Hakor: [Scrambles to move weapons before anyone gets hurt] Whoa, slow down! Alright, everyone sit down in two rows and behave. No running off to catch a ball. If a ball comes over here, you may get up and throw it back into the field.

Chase: Apparently. I think Aaron threw a ball..... maybe?

Ok, just a team refresher. If you catch it, whoever has been out the longest on you team comes back in. captains react like regular players.

Elanhil: SWEEEET!! [Lobs the ball at Mordir, except a sudden breeze sends the ball bouncing gently towards the orphanage kids.]

Merashath: [suddenly realizing he no longer is holding tynx, he unfolds his wings and stares at the ground.]

Niarah - Ahhh! (dives to the side as a stray ball whizzes past her) I thought we weren't playing?

Rahor - We aren't, you just got lucky and almost got nailed.

Me - Maybe you guys should try moving.

Sumira - (from the shadow of the post margins) Like so.

Niarah - (shoots Sumira an annoyed look but says nothing)

Thysal - Oh, come on, guys, the balls can't hurt you. (another stray ball smacks her between the eyes. She falls to the floor, out cold).

Rahor - Good hit, to whoever threw that.

Me - I think I'm going to withdraw you guys from the Character Introduction thread, at least for a little while. This might end up getting painful. Besides, you're developed, and we're rarely on here.

Niarah - Wait, but . . .

Me - You'll see your friends in the chatroom, hopefully.

Okay, the team captain can give orders to other characters (Someone get Elanhil out already!) But it's up to the characters authors to make them obey it. For the most part, I've never been sure what Team Captains do that makes them captains. I guess if there's a dispute over whether someone is out or who caught the ball first it'd be the captain's job to solve the dispute. Captains are fair game to hit too, and if they're out they have to appoint a regent or something until they get back in.

I don't remember how you get back in.

It's pretty simples. Everyone who has a ball throw it! Throw it at a person on the opposite team!

Any more questions? Have I explained and answered questions? Do I have this right? Imagine you were really playing dodgeball and handed out a bunch of balls to a bunch of over excited kids. They're not going to wait for you to tell you who to throw at, when you say go it'll be mayhem. Right?

Now someone on the same team can come pick up the blue ball which is still rolling around this side of the room. Ethan has to deal with the blue ball and Rhain has to deal with the yellow one. Heads up!

Aryn: Since our author has *ahem* DESERTED us, lets do something fun.
