Welcome to week three, everyone! :D You all are doing absolutely splendiferously! :D

This week's quest will be harder for some, and easier for others.

Your quest is to write an essence map for one of your characters.

The Rules wrote:
1. All challenges must be declared completed by midnight Saturday in your timezone (please specify your timezone when you sign up).
2. Personal challenges must be declared by midnight Monday in your timezone.
3. Personal challenges cannot be repeated.
4. The organizer reserves the right to veto any challenges that seem too simple. (i.e. writing a sentence)

Also, I would like to remind everyone that any weekly challenge pieces that are posted on the forum will be eligible to be featured in our newsletter once it gets off its feet. Please post a link in this thread if you would like it to be considered.

If you could write your sign-up post in a similar format to the following, it would be appreciated:
Goal: weekly challenge (or whatever you decide to do)
Timezone: PDT

On your mark! Get set! Go!!! *fires pistol*

Hmmm! That is a challenge I would like to try. Though none of my characters are quite at the essence mapping stage. *Ponders aloud* I'd have to speed ahead with the step-by-step character fractal, though maybe I could do it with a different character. Though then I would have to take them through the first part of the fractalling process really quickly. . I'd like to do a world building goal too. Hmm... I shall get back to you on this tonight when I decide, and declare my goals then. Oh! And a question; can we do more then one personal goal?

You have until Monday night to decide. ;)

And only one personal goal is permitted per week, though you can do as many weekly challenges as you like. :D

Weekly goal: Okay, I'm going to be brave and try a FirstX essence map for one of my characters. *Crosses fingers and gulps uncomfortably.*

There are different types of essence map, and I don't really know any of the differences...can someone explain what kind we're supposed to do for the challenge, and what makes it different from the others?

I wasn't specific, so you can do any kind you like. :D If it's your first essence, I'd recommend FirstX, though.

So, I've never essence-mapped before but I'd like to give it a try...
Goal: weekly goal & three new poems published on my blog (see signature)
Time zone: EDT

Are the poems and okay goal? They take me a lot longer to write than writing fiction. If that isn't an adequate personal goal I can change it. Thanks!

Considering the wild and crazy plans I am getting for this, I'd better declare it soon so I can start soon. ;)

Okay, I will just do one personal challenge and write more anyways. :D

Hmm. I can actually combine a personal and weekly challenge.

Goal: Essence map of Anastasia, FMC of fantasy project whose title is killing me

Okay. I've got this sorted now. :D

Weekly goal: Essence Map of Mirza Aleo of Jenta (First X)
Personal goal: Take Mirza Aleo through steps 1-6 of the 'Who' stage of Sir Emeth's Character fractalling system. Doing this sets me up to know enough of Mirza to then essence map her for the challenge.
Timezone: MDT

Yes, I am probably wild and crazy to even attempt this. But last week I attempted something I didn't think I could finish and ended up doing something even bigger. So here I go on a wild and crazy quest. :D

Goal:Weekly challenge.

I've never really essence mapped before, but I have good grasp of it and Aliza convinced me that it's not hard once you understand it, so here I am. :P

I know this is a little late, but can I change part of my personal goal? We have finished writing chapter one for the story for Jay and will be editing instead or writing new materials. If I can, I would like to change it to 2000 words on my WIP.

All new goals are edited in! :D

Fyrstar: Yup! You're fine. :D

Varon: That would actually just be the weekly goal. If you did an essence map of something other than a character, then you could combine the two.

Katie: Well, if you make the essence map your personal goal, you can get the extra points for mixing a personal and weekly challenge

Katharina: Yup! It's changed. Goals can be changed until midnight Monday.

*looks up excitedly* Even though it's not a character?

I want to essence map my username! :D

Even though it's not a character. :D If you make it your personal goal, you'll get 5 points for the goal, and 2 extra for it overlapping with the weekly challenge.

Alternately, if you want to do a different personal goal, I think your username is close enough to a character to work for the weekly challenge. :D

A full and complete essence-map in only one week?!?! o.O :pale: Somehow I get the feeling I'm the only one here that thinks essence maps should be several pages long...

Maybe I'll just set a (more manageable than last week's) personal goal.

Hm, something simple... *thinks*

My personal goal is to expand the longing drabble to 300 words.

Oh, question, Raven. Does mine count as a personal challenge that incorporates the weekly challenge? I'm wondering how that works.

Personal Goal: 5 scenes on Peter's Angel
Timezone: CST

I should really do more than 5... but that's the bare minimum. :)

I... am almost done my personal goal. I just have one (big) step left, and then it's on to the essence map.

I'm glad I chose to do this with a character I pretty much had figured out already. I guess I can go really fast with a character that I have been thinking about for a while. It's when I still am figuring the character as I go that I get stuck.

I finished my personal goal, which actually took me less time than expected. If anyone wants to read them, they will be posted on my blog soon. Or I can post them on HW if anyone wants... =)

The list is updated!

Azlyn: Yours does not count as a combination. For essence maps, the combination would come in if you wrote an essence map, but it was for a place (or object, etc.). For worldbuilding, it would be if you did an article, but it was on a different subject than the challenge. For stories, it could be either that you write one of the same length, but with a different theme, or a different length with the same theme. Does that help?

My goal has gone surprisingly well, I'm almost done already.

I'm jealous. But, now that I have the week off of work, maybe I can get started on them :P.

Thanks for the encouragement. I know I can do it, it's just been a couple of crazy days. I worked a little bit on the essence map, so I've at least done something :D.

Yay! Good job (even though I already said it, it bears repeating)!

I'm something like two thirds through mine, hopefully will finish it tomorrow, my head is tired...
