Is there already a thread on this kind of help somewhere? I don't remember... been awhile since I've been active, sorry :(

Anyway... HELP! I really want to get back into the swing of things working on my story, but although the want is there, I can't seem to get back into it. It's been since January since I've worked on To The Valley of Dragons... have I waited too long? Do I just need a good swift kick in the pants? I'm thinking about just sitting down and reading everything I've written so far, and perhaps writing some short stories based on my world to help get me back into the story and habit of writing. Do you all think that will help? Any other ideas?

Personally, I would read what I had written already and edit along the way, then see if I got into the story enough to just start writing where I left off. :D Other than that, I don't know. But I do know you haven't waited too long. It's never too late to start writing again. ;)

Moved to Village Lore as I think it fits better here. :)

I'd do what Jonathan said he'd do. Usually rereading what you've written gets you excited about seeing the finished project and finishing up reading...you know... So you can find out what happens in the end.

Also, just sort of playing with the storyline helps some too. :D Mess around with it some and edit it. See what would happen if you didn't kill this character or if this character didn't show up in time. Even if you don't go with your alternate story lines, it usually gets the writing attitude awake and then you want to write again.

And of course, when all else fails, epic music is always there. ;)

Thanks all. I suppose I'll go with my original plan then, and just read what I've written so far. Get myself back into the story. And of course, epic music. I have a good selection I was listening to when writing before, and it always did the trick. Thanks for the reminder ;)

I started a thread for people to share writer's block cures, but it appears to have died in March. Just in case it helps: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2390

I would heartily agree with Jonathan and Bethy. Doing that has saved my own story, more than once, 6strings. :D

Well it seems to be doing the trick so far. I did finally finish chapter 15 and I'm working on 16 now :) I just hope I can keep it up.

I'm in the middle of a writing spree for the second book in my trilogy, but once things slow down, I plan on seeing what you've been working on. :D

I find building on my characters gets me back into the story mode. Music definitely helps as well. ;)

6String, I had a "famine" of motivation at one point, but the subject of my book came up and I was required to answer a few questions about it. In answering the questions, I came up with new ideas and advances to the plot that I didn't have before. And I fell in love with my book again! Personally; I would see if you could get a world/character bio to fill out, they always help me brainstorm. Brainstorming makes me think. And thinking makes me write. And writing; is good. :dieshappy:
