I may have asked this before, but it keeps bothering me. Does Elanhil sound too much like Elendil?

Nope, it never even occurred to me that they might sound similar!

And I really like the name Elanhil, so you're not allowed to change it. :)

Thanks. That's the very confirmation I was looking for.

@Shawn: This is what she'd say:
Lefaar: Trina! My sister! We have finally re-met!

Trina: Bug off, stranger. I only got one brother, and I know you're not him.

Lefaar: But- but-

Trina: *eyes narrow* I said bug off.

I agree, Elanhil is a fine name you you needn't worry about it sounding like Elendil. Unless, I'm pronouncing it wrong... *gasp* I might be saying Elanhil wrong!!!!!!! Which is it: (Ee-lan-hill) or (short e--> E-lan-hill)?????????

Well, the writing is just the same. Elanhil is pronounced Eh-LAHN-hill (the 'lah' is as in 'deck the halls with bows of holly, fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la')

Ooooh! I've been saying (Ee-lan-hill). You know, your pronunciation is much softer and poetic. ^^ *mentally adjusted pronunciation* ;)

Congrats, PotK! Shame, Calen. :D Jk. I actually changed how it was pronounced halfway through the book so I often mispronounce it. :D

*slaps wrist* Yes, shame on me. Thanks for the correction! ;)

Come on, Shawn, we can be guilty of mispronunciation together. ^^

I would not have nicknamed you Elan if I knew the E was short. Er, I'll keep the nickname. It is pronounced Ee-lon. I'm not calling you Ellen. ;)

In answer to your original question, no, I don't think it sounds like Elendil. I never even noticed the similarity until you mentioned it. :)

And am I the only one who's been pronouncing "Elanhil" correctly this whole time? :?

I mispronounced it.

The new pronunciation is closer to Elendil.

I had never thought of it though.

How do you pronounce Elendil? I think the old one was closer. Isn't Eledil like 'Ellen' the name + 'dill' the pickles? The old way to pronounce it was was 'Ellen' the name + 'hill' the geographical feature. The new way stresses the 'a', so: 'i' or short i sound, but not really. Sort of between that and 'uh'. Then la as in falalalalalala... with an n, then 'hill' the land-form.

I guess I don't feel bad for also mispronouncing if you, his own brother, have been getting it wrong.

Good luck trying to get me to mentally adjust my pronunciation. You'll be Ee-lan-hill for a long time.

See, this is why everyone calls you Hilly!
