Despite having a few people not reach their goals this week (myself included) I still think this thread is helpful in pushing us to do more. By recognizing that we could have done better we analyze why we failed, and it helps us evaluate our time management and priorities. For some, being sick or just plain reaching too high are difficult to work around. I had a professor in seminary that refused to give me an extension when I was very ill for two days. He said I should have been prepared for the unpredictable. I just shook my head and vowed never to get put in that situation again. That was a crucial moment in my life, because from then on I did my best, using that moment as inspiration, to work hard on the front end in order to be prepared for roadblocks that might appear along the way. I'm not trying to get on any of your cases, only share how I learned to achieve my goals in school. However serious or not these are for you, that story may help.

Now, for my goal this week. I'm going to take a step back this week and just say, finish my first draft. I worked really hard last week, writing 5 chapters and nearly 14k words, but still have another chapter or two to write to finish. I don't want to cheapen my ending just to get it done, so I'm going to work hard on making it great. I pray you all have a great week encouraged by God's grace.

1. Have a sub-forum for Ainaan
2. Begin map for Celestia
3. Write third chapter in Jack Wilder and the Threat of Anubis

These just don't get that much activity do they?

I gotta keep plugging away at that first draft for the one-shot manga. I'd love to get it done this week but we'll see...

Otherwise, I have a book about writing to finish taking notes on this week so I can mail it to a friend of mine. :)

What's the manga about?
Have fun with the notes.

It's too bad not many people use these goal threads.

I will be working on my goals from last week - the short scripts, and a publisher for my picture book - as well as some other miscellaneous things. I worked on one of the short scripts last night and got a solid beginning and ending written.

Amongst all of that, I'm pushing to get a complicated exercise finished before Thursday. It involves a film and takes 10+ hours, and the film is due at the library on Thursday. I think I have about 4 hours of work left...

Ohh, lots of things. :) It's to be fairly short (45 pages?) and is set in the universe currently designated by the fairly boring name 'the Colorless Lands'. Can't really say too much right now.

Once it's done I'll be sure to post linkies here.

Ok, sounds interesting.

I have another goal as well.

Goal #4: Begin studying how to draw comic book superheroes.

I think I know how Varon is going to use that knowledge...

10 minutes (about an hour's work) left on the exercise! So close!

Yeah. SHOT and VIRAL, I'll probably make a comic book out of those.

Only if I can save it as a .jpg and upload it to my blog. Other than that, probably a traditional comic book. I might self-publish some like James A. Owen.

How's everyone doing? Sounds like Phily's been busy, that's good. How bout everyone else? Melody, your manga? Varon, your map, chapter 3, subforum, research on drawing?

I think web comics are a fun idea Varon, I wish you success in that. Howard Taylor talks about his on Writing Excuses podcast. His web comic is at http://www.schlockmercenary.com/ I haven't read it much so I can't be certain of the content.

I have good news. I finished my first draft! :) Just over 115k. Will edit in a few weeks. I also wrote a blog post on writing Redemptive Horror. I'd love for people to come visit my website and comment.

I agree. I can say they were a great help in keeping me productive after nanowrimo. Any ideas on how to spread the word? I wonder if people just haven't seen them?

I haven't got much done, but I haven't had much writing time either. Had other obligations to fulfill.

But my cowriter and I have started to lay the foundations for a few conlangs... <smile>

My research on comic drawing is started, nothing else is. I'll probably get most of them done this week end since I'm in "quarantine" so to speak.

Excellent job Tim.

Tim, CONGRATS! I'm so happy that you met your goal and finished your draft.

Keep starting these threads and posting on them, encouraging other people as you have been... they'll gain momentum.

I finished my complicated exercise right on time, and I'm elated! I learned so much through the experience - which I won't try to explain here - and have turned back to my personal script and started applying the knowledge.

For this weekend, however, I'm going to work on those short scripts... I have a lot of plans for February, which will mean a lot of goals. I might not get to them until I finish these scripts, but I'll be back. :D

Oh, also this weekend I need to decide and prepare February's monthly challenge for HWSF...

I haven't had my computer for the last three and a half weeks, so my goal has not, nor can, be met.

I'm behind on my goals, due to health reasons which were compounded by laziness, but I am still moving forward.

I think.

I hope.

We're all hoping you get your computer back SOON, Airianna. :(

'Nough moping, Jonathan. That won't do!

Are you planning on posting the comic page anywhere on the web, Varon?

I finished one script and the team is very happy with how it turned out. I didn't finish the other script because the friend that the script is for called me and took up my afternoon. ;)
