The book opens with Uman stewing over his failed mission to retrieve info on the neuronet that could have given his people the break they needed to overcome the increasing Osuna invasions. He is inside his carriership and just about to go into hyperdrive when something happens to the hyperdrive engine. They pop out of hyperspace hurling towards the atmosphere of an unknown planet (Kitane).

The antagonist, Koslo, sabotaged the power and control systems to make the ship crash. Koslo was a prisoner along with the rest of the people they just rescued, but had implants to hide his Osuna features. His plan was the reason Uman brought his mission to the prison in the first place. Koslo sent a coded message to Uman saying a spy with vital info on the neuronet had been captured and was located where Koslo was imprisoned. Koslo was put in prison by the Osuna after they stole a new invention of his so that they could keep the invention and profits to themselves. Koslo then made a deal with Comerc, the company who controls travel between the stars thru a monopoly on hyperdrive engines and a ULD (Universe Locating Device) so that they can charge for travel and weight of shipments at the threat of disabling engines to those who don’t pay.

Koslo’s deal with Comerc involved them giving him a code to alter Uman’s flight plan and shut down his engine outside Kitane. Comerc has paid people within the Arakun system to collect people to use in a breeding program that would enhance warmech hosts. Warmechs are machines using non-Osuna bodies that are essentially elite foot soldiers. Koslo’s job will be to advance the DNA of the people Comerc supplies using the facility they had built for him on Kitane so that Comerc can have their own army to protect themselves from the growing Osuna military.

The reason why Comerc chose Kitane, is because of its unique percentage of vitelium in the crust. Vitelium is an essential ingredient to their hyperdrive engines. Comerc needs to protect this planet, so putting its new military force here is advantageous. I don’t know much about the environment, besides that it is habitable.

Comerc chose Koslo because of his warning to the Osuna government that the increasing dependence on neuronet programs to sustain human life is leading to irreparable damage to human DNA. They want him to start from “scratch” with non-Osuna to create humans strong enough to handle the neuronet while also being able to enjoy its benefits. They see this as the next generation to come to power and should earn back some leverage for Comerc in the politics of the universe.

In the process of the ship crashing Koslo escapes on the Osuna cargo ship Uman had to hijack to get the rescued prisoners onto the carriership. Uman gets knocked out under falling debris and when he wakes up he finds Ehli stuck under a pile of rubble in a hallway on the way to the escape pods. They escape together and direct their escape pod to the coordinates of the location Uman’s crew determined once they realized they were going down.

Uman escorts Ehli to medical attention among the survivors and the next morning goes on a hike to think. He is weighed down by anger that his dream of being pinned by his father as a general will never happen now that he is stuck on this planet. When he returns Ehli has been looking for him. She tells him they need his help and doesn’t understand why he left.

Uman struggles to accept his new role and somehow finds out Koslo has a way off the planet through shipments from Comerc or maybe just communication abilities that would enable him to contact his father. In the process of finding Koslo, Uman is faced with the dilemma of helping the survivors or finding a way off the planet. He feels bad leaving them all alone, so he helps them prepare for the winter, but then plans on leaving for Koslo’s camp as soon as spring comes. An invasion by Koslo to kidnap Ehli and the other women prompts Uman to go rescue them. Eventually he’ll realize his legacy or even his father’s recognition is not as important as him taking care of his new family.

There are many points in this synopsis that need help. I'm outlining them based on points in this text and was wondering if someone could help me format the text so that a word can become a link to another thread. For example, "failed mission" in the first line would link to a thread on what that failed mission was and why it failed.
