Your challenge this week is to write a ballad about a daring quest.

Remember, in order to receive points for completing the weekly challenge, you MUST declare it by Monday at midnight.

As always...

The Rules wrote:
1. All challenges must be declared completed by midnight Saturday in your timezone (please specify your timezone when you sign up).
2. All challenges (personal or weekly) must be declared by midnight Monday in your timezone.
3. Personal challenges cannot be repeated.
4. The organizer reserves the right to veto any challenges that seem too simple. (i.e. writing a sentence)

If this is your first time on one of these quests, you'll need to see the initiation pamphlet.

Also, I would like to remind everyone that any weekly challenge pieces that are posted on the forum will be eligible to be featured in our newsletter. Please post a link in this thread if you would like it to be considered.

If you could write your sign-up post in a similar format to the following, it would be appreciated:
Goal: weekly challenge (or whatever you decide to do)
Timezone: PDT

Go!!!! *shoots off fireworks*

Yes, you can do a weekly challenge and a personal challenge. Questions are most certainly welcome ;).

Oh-key. * smiles * Umm...so should I just post my personal challenge now? And how many challenges can I do?

Oh, good. What does it mean by 'incorporate the weekly challenge into the personal one'? Does that mean I write a ballad about the person I'm developing, or write a post about warfare in a nation that I'm writing a short story about, or things like that?

And the other thing means that if I write two ballads, I get 8 points?

What if I write two ballads about the two characters I am developing for my personal goals...does that mean it adds up to 22 points?

Raven is going to have to answer most of those questions for you, but I can answer your first two :).

Yes, post your personal goal now. The way I do it is thus (if I am doing the weekly challenge and a personal goal):
Weekly challenge: state the weekly challenge here
Personal goal: state your personal goal here
Time Zone:

You can repeat the weekly challenge as many times as you want for extra points, but personal goals do not get extra points if you complete it more than once.

If the Lord wills I'm completing that goal tonight. Normally I'd consider that cheating, but considering how major of a project this is (and how hard I had to work yesterday and today to get there)... it counts. 'Sides, I am NOT making any more writing goals after that this week. o.O *staggers in exhaustion*

Yes, and make sure you do it before midnight Saturday. :D Oh, and you can report one goal at a time, like if you get the weekly challenge or all your personal goals done.

I finished my ballad. I am going to post it here, because I know it isn't very good and I don't really want to post it elsewhere :P. Hopefully this qualifies as a daring quest :/ .The siding has lead paint, does that make it more daring ;)?

Quote:
Ballad on Siding
by Faith Blum

The siding needed replaced,
The date was set,
The people were gathered,
The goals were met.

The venture was about to begin
The siding torn down,
A prayer for safety is said,
The work is begun.

Hammers and crowbars strain at their work,
Men and boys on ladders
Labor, strain, sweat, and ache,
(Not that it really matters).

The siding has been taken off,
The labor is complete,
“Good job, guys, it is finished,
Now let's eat a side of meat!”

Sorry I didn't get to these sooner, Juliet. :)

Oh, good. What does it mean by 'incorporate the weekly challenge into the personal one'?

Well, let's use this week as an example. If you made it your personal goal to write a ballad about the dramatic death of a kitten, you would be incorporating the weekly goal, because you would use part of the weekly goal's requirements in your personal goal. Or, you could write a short story about a daring quest, and that would also incorporate it. Does that make sense?

And the other thing means that if I write two ballads, I get 8 points?

That's right.

What if I write two ballads about the two characters I am developing for my personal goals...does that mean it adds up to 22 points?

Since you're only allowed to make one personal goal per week (though you can fit many goals into the one goal), the most you could get from incorporating would be 7 points. However, if you also wrote ballads that totally fit the criteria, that number could go up as far as you want.
