Hi. I'm writing about Esther...but I need your help! What did Ancient Persia look like? Was it rolling hills and green meadows? Or was it dusty and hot?

Your responses are welcome! :)

I pretty sure it was was somewhat fertile and green. (Since it was situated between two rivers.)
But I'm no expert on ancient Persia.

Depends on which part of Persia you're talking about... I'm assuming it the capital (it's name is fleeing my mind), so try looking it up. The land should be somewhat similar to what it used to be. If you're really interested in researching, trying finding some books at the library on ancient cultures. Look into their art, beliefs, clothing, class systems, ect. If you'd prefer doing everything online, just Google it. I'm sure you'll get lots of options!

Consider this, we'll give what information we have, here on HW, but think of the fun you'll have exploring on your own! I bet you'll find loads of cool things that someone else might find insignificant, but works perfectly for you. So, I'll try to find some time to check into ancient Persia (Mmm, finals, we'll see 'bout that :P) and you do the same, meet back here and we'll compare notes ^_^

Hey, thanks for the tips, guys. :D

Nykaela, thanks for reminding me about the library  i sort of really only go there for fictional books or specific books for a paper or something....I'll check out some books and also Google....

Oh, and the capital (at least where Esther is) is Susa...I'm assuming that was the capital back then :D

And thanks for working on this with me! I really appreciate it! You can wait until Christmas Break and then during ( or after) that time we can compare notes...
And thanks!

One thing you have to consider is that Persia was from India to Ethiopia... It was the "top dog" of its time.

The original capital of the Achaemenid Persian Empire was Persepolis, but it was moved to Babylon by Artaxerxes (Xerxes son) in the mid 5th Century. Traditional view was that King Ahasuerus whom Esther married was Xerxes I, but some ancient writers thought he was Artaxerxes, and others even Artaxerxes II.
So depending upon which king you think he was will determine which capital you set the story in...

God bless
Peter

The ancient Persians are today known as the Iranians, and the ancient Medes (I believe) are today's Kurds. Also, from what I know, modern-day Iran and Iraq were the political center of the Persian Empire.

Possibly helpful links:

I know I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I thought I'd try to contribute something anyway, just in case. :)

Have you ever seen the movie "One Night With the King"? It's a pretty good movie about Esther. They take some liberties, but it might give you some ideas about the look of ancient Persia.

If nothing else, you could try to dig into the sources they used to develop the movie.
