Before last night, I had never heard of the Cabanatuan Japanese POW camp, or the story of the rescue of over 500 American soldiers. It was a very inspiring story, and I wondered if anyone had ever written a book based on this event, or would want to contemplate doing so! :) Do any of you know of any interesting facts surrounding this event?

It sounds like it would be a very heavy book and need a lot of research. I have never heard of the camp either, but it would be worth looking into.

If I recall correctly, it was mentioned in our history books, though somewhat briefly. I also came across some more articles and stories while researching for my Death March novel (some of the prisoners marched to the Cabanatuan war camp), but I did not include it as part of my story.

Faith is right though, it would need a lot of research and would probably come out as a pretty heavy book, but it sounds like it's a plot worth developing. :)

Yes, I agree it would take a lot of research. I suppose you'd have to be very interested in the subject, and have the time, focus and energy to do tons of research. :)
