I thought I'd find out who on the forum writes mystery books?

What kind of mystery books do you write, and would you like to work towards publishing books in this genre?

I've been working on an Elizabethan mystery novel; I have often dabbled in writing mystery, and I think it's one of my favourite genres to read and to write.

What first made you interested in writing mystery?

This is the forum for me! :0 I started out reading and writing mysteries. Waaay back in second grade I started reading Nancy Drew, and then once I decided to become a writer the first stories I started were mysteries and the first stories I finished writing were Nancy Drew fan fiction.

As I've gotten older I've branched out into other genres, but I have to say that mystery will always by far be my favorite.

Counting off things from my WIP list, I currently have three straight-up mystery novels. And they will get finished. When is, well, a mystery. ;)

Mystery is what I started with too, Jessie. I wrote loads of little mystery books (which I'd probably cringe over if I read now haha!), and I read a lot of Enid Blyton Secret Seven and Famous Five when I was a kid. Then it was the Hardy Boys - I don't think I actually ever read Nancy Drew. I have a few mystery books that I wrote when I was little that I often think I'd like to dig out and re-write.

Do you tend to write mystery for children or adults, Jessie?

I wrote one mystery a long time ago called "The Frisbee Twins", but otherwise haven't done much. Although, the third book in my Hymns of the West series will be a mystery.

I grew up reading The Hardy Boys and The Three Investigators, and I'd like to write some mysteries at some point. My NaNo novel this year will also have some mystery elements.

Same here, Jonathan! :D I used to devour the Hardy Boys and the Three Investigators. :dieshappy: We'll see if I end up successfully writing any mysteries though. :P

I did write one short story, and will be eventually expanding it into a novel; but I'm rubbish at writing them. It's not so much the plot and whatnot, but reality - I tend to be a perfectionist and they would never get written..... I am working on a series of short stories that are centred around a spy and mysteries, so.... We'll see.

I had one I was going to write, but I've forgotten the plot... More recently I've been thinking about writing a few cop type books about investigators that track people with super powers to make sure they don't become dangerous. It isn't a mystery per se, but it has investigation related elements.

I write mysteries now! I wrote a rough draft in July. Now all I have to do is edit it. :P
